Health care expo offers seniors information on flu

The Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla. —

The Orange County Commission on Aging and National Council on Aging are hosting a flu education and vaccination clinic during a health care expo next month.

Various health care providers will be on hand on Oct. 3 during the 50-plus FYI Expo at Winter Park Community Center. The event is aimed at educating older adults about their vulnerabilities and increased risk of complications from flu. They will also be supplying information on vaccinations.

Providers will also be available to provide flu shots to senior citizens 65 and older.

The age group makes up nearly 23,000 adults in the Orlando area, or about 9 percent of the state population.

An estimated 62 percent of Florida adults 65 and older were vaccinated during the 2011-2012 flu season.
