When you depress the throttle, you'll get a nice, steady acceleration.

When you encounter a few twists and turns on your route, you'll find the Range Rover surprisingly easy to handle for such a large vehicle.

If you deviate from most SUV drivers and actually choose to go off road, be assured that you're doing so in one of the world class leaders in the category.

There's a terrain response system that lets you choose from general, snow, mud, sand and rock crawl settings.

While we weren't able to take the Range Rover off road in this test drive, we have done so in the past and can vouch for its capabilities there.

As for functionality, check out the 70-plus cubic feet of cargo space.

Also, the niceties such as the automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror, heated power-tilt steering wheel and power adjustable heated front seats give you the luxury you would expect from Land Rover.

One thing that was a big disappointment, though, was the size of the exterior rear-view mirrors.

They were tiny.

That's not what you expect in a vehicle this size; it could actually prove to be somewhat of a safety hazard.

Fortunately, the overall visibility is good, thanks to the high stance of the vehicle and the openness of the cabin.

Our test drive model was equipped with the six-disc DVD system that was part of the entertainment option package.

For all this comfort, utility and luxury, you're looking at a sticker price of $85,450.
