Slow down, this is a neighborhood!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Here’s a subdivision dilemma: What to do about those residents that simply drive too fast in and around the streets and cul-de-sacs in the neighborhood. Well… those of us who live in my subdivision got this e-mail from the homeowner’s association this week. Read on:
Dear Homeowners,
It has been brought to our attention that people are driving too fast and not staying on their side of the road within the community. This poses a threat to other drivers as well as the safety of those walking or young children playing in the subdivision. Please remember to drive cautiously and maintain the speed limit.
Also, if you have teenage drivers, please remind them to drive cautiously as well. Your concern and attention toward this matter is greatly appreciated.
Really, what can you do about people who simply put way too much metal to the pedal? Let’s face it, unless they get caught (not likely within the confines of a subdivision) by a cop, they will continue to speed.
At least that’s my opinion. I don’t really know if you can do anything about people that drive too fast, whether it’s in a subdivision or on the city streets. Maybe speed bumps would help. Then again, they just might make it more fun to fly over them at break neck speed.
Do you have well known speeders in your neighborhood? Has anyone ever stopped them on the street and told them to slow down? What’s a homeowner to do? Any ideas?

I have been complaining about drivers in Fayetteville for some time now. I vent about it, I blog about it I basically bend the ear of who every will listen to me about Fayette drivers. My complaint is about the “sightseers”. That’s what I call them. They like to sightsee during work and school bus hours. In the mornings and evenings they creep along, well below the limit, stopping at yield signs as well as slowing down for green lights. They count to 5 before beginning to drive at a green light and they come to a complete stop before getting into the turning lane. Of course it’s hazardous to speed in a subdivision. There are people, pets and other drivers you have to think about. But its ridiculous how slow people drive on the roads of Fayette. They purposely get into the lane next to another slow driver to box people trying to go the limit it. No matter what speed you are traveling they pull out from a side road in front of you just to creep along. It’s enough to cause road rage. Trying to pick up a sick child from school within a decent time period is impossible. I don’t condone speeding but I beg of you Fayette County….Please just drive the limit. Please just drive the limit.

If I am in my front yard and someone flies up the street, I wave in a way (no, not with my middle finger) that lets them know they are driving too fast. It may not help at all, but it might. I think that some people are oblivious to their speeding — they just drive fast where ever they are. Habits are difficult to break, so I think of my non- threatening gesture as a reminder. If I see a teen driving fast I definitely talk to their parents, again, in a friendly, FYI sort of way. In my neighborhood I have had far more trouble with kids and teens racing up and down the streets on four wheelers — without helmets!!! Fayette’s finest usually get a call from me on that one.
Driving the speed limit is a great idea. It’s proven to improve fuel efficiency and it’s safer for everyone. Speeding tickets are expensive in more ways than just the fine. And, imagine the grief you avoid by not hurting , or killing another human being or animal through carelessly not driving at a speed safe for circumstances.

Red You are too funny! This is funny that I am reading this article this morning….. I was coming out my neighborhood this morning and from the way I come out I do not have any stop signs. Well there is a street to my left that has the stop sign. There was a child walking to the bus stop and I saw him. I was doing the speed limit when this Silver grayish Lexus with a REALTOR tag on the back went past the stop sign and cut in front of me. I was so angry that I followed her out the neighborhood. Then she had the nerve to slam on her brakes like I was really stupid enough to hit her. I was hoping she would get out of the car and say something to me so that I could call her a child killer. That is how most of these accidents happen is when people are in a hurry and don’t pay attention. So I would like to send out a special message to the lady this morning. Dear Lexus Realtor who was driving in the Princeton Chase Subdivision this morning. The next time I see you speeding or failing to stop at a stop sign please know I will not hesitate to take down your License plate number and call the Fayette County police. You could have seriously hurt someone this morning with the actions you decided to take. I suggest that if you are running late that you accept that you are late and accept the consequences. I’m sure you would rather be tardy than face that fact that you killed or hurt someone. Love your neighbor!

Wow Thirdwheel. Reading your blog makes me angry. I have kids and the thought of someone, especially an adult to do what Lexus Realtor did is infuriating. Doesn’t she know about the little 7 year old that was killed just last under simulating circumstances? I have never gotten a speeding ticket in my life. I refuse to speed. I give myself plenty of time to do what I need to do and teach my kids the same. Because I an almost always on time the few times that delays make me late are usually acceptable. Maybe people need refresher drivers lessons or something.
