Video cameras make their way to Fayetteville
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Guess what I just read? Peachtree City might get its first video camera.
Here are some excerpts from the story which appeared on The Citizen newspaper website this week: A proposed new traffic light for Ga. Highway 54 West will come with a video camera that can zoom in either direction with the feed going straight to the area Georgia Department of Transportation office in Thomaston.
I don’t believe Fayetteville has any video cameras posted on the traffic lights. But if I could have my vote where one would do some good…I’d say put a camera (make that two cameras) at the intersection of Ga. 54 and Ga. 85. That is one place where there are simply too many cars and not enough lanes.
And on top of that, people tend to run the light in both directions, so maybe knowing a video camera was keeping a watchful eye on them might deter some folks. I would like to believe that there is some magical force that keeps speeders from speeding when they know a camera is watching.
If you could have your say so over where to install a video camera in Fayetteville, where would you like to see it posted?

I love Fayette and I love to read your column but I hate Fayette drivers. 90% of them creep anyway. The way that people drive in Fayetteville only allows about 3 cars to make it through a light. Especially the one you are referring to. Frustration is probably why people tend to run the lights in Fayetteville. There is a constant sea of red bumper lights there because of all the people riding their breaks and inching along. Then they tend to block “normal” drivers (the ones that tend to drive the posted limit) in. I don’t get it. It’s like people in Fayetteville have nowhere to go or nothing to do besides wonder around in the streets driving 5 to 10 miles below the posted limit. It’s the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced.

People do drive really slowly in Fayetteville!! When I have to pass someone and I look over it’s usually older people (60+), Soccor moms with a car load of kids, or someone on the cell phone. I think some people are afraid to speed because of the cops in the area. They are out and about. They will pull you over if you are going 5 miles over the speed limit! Their ticket prices are just crazy too. Now if you head over to 314 though you would swear you were on the Atlanta Motor Speedway! Clayton and Fulton County tags come blowing past me doing 90+ when the speed limit is only 50. It’s just confusing….

You’re right Thirdwheel. The tickets are so high because there is a lack of crime in the area and that’s a way to get money for the county. If I could just experience folks just driving the limit I would be happy. But I all I see is break lights after break lights. It’s just mind ridiculous. A camera at the light won’t help in Fayette at all.

You better not have anybody sick in your house and have to get somewhere in a hurry or have to pick up a child from school at a unpredicted time. You won’t make it there in Fayetteville. I live right off S. Jeff Davis and it takes a darn near 30 minutes just to get to the CVS on 85. THAT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL!!!

If you don’t like the way prople drive in Fayetteville, save your breath and our patience… move somewhere else. After all, you probably know too much to live here. Good riddance.

Xiphosura Go back and try to come up with an original response. Or at the very least try for intelligence.

Hey Thanks Anna. Like I said in my first post. I do like Fayetteville I’m just not use to the extremely slow pace.

It’s about time we got cameras at every light. Not just for the red light runners either.
We are being run over by the black thugs from fulton and clayton. It would have been nice for the cops to be able to look at the cameras and get the tag no. of the white sedan carrying black thugs last Friday that committed the armed robbery at Food Depo.

I am so enjoying these comments… Red right on!! Xiphosura You are probably one of those slow drivers I see in the left land hogging it up… Move your car over so people who want to drive can… I don’t have all of the time in the world to go 10 miles an hour… oh and about moving I am out in another…. and trust me I am counting down…. Food Depot got robbed?? What a shock! That should tear down that entire plaza and just plant some trees there. I get nervous getting out of my car! I dare not stop at the dollar theater because I might get car jacked… I agree they need to put cameras around that place….

Red & Thirdwheel — yes that plaza is getting very dangerous. Why do you think the Village Cafe closed. His customers were afraid to come to the restaurant because of the others in the plaza. I love Fayetteville, but in the years since we have lived here, the thugs keep moving in.

Local Resident I had a family member work at the Village Cafe ever since they first opened. You are right about the location being dangerous. It was great during the day but at night people were afraid to come out. The resturant really shut because the owner was tired of running it and wanted a break. I doubt it will ever come back to Fayetteville again….
