What do you love/hate about Fayetteville?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If someone you knew was considering a move to Fayetteville how would you describe this city?
And would you even call it a ‘city?’ or is it more like a town or a community? Is this typical suburban living? What would you say are its good points and bad points? I ask because when I try to describe this area to family and friends in other places, I find myself filled with different descriptions for the place I’ve lived in for nearly 12 years. Physically speaking, I tell people there are lots of trees in many subdivisions (not mine unfortunately) and as a matter of fact, lots of subdivisions.
Lots and lots of them. I would say I use the word “typical” a lot in my descriptions of Fayetteville and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, it’s just that we are and that’s okay. You know, we’ve got Target, Wal-mart, movie theaters and Home Depot. We are not hip or cool. We are simply Fayetteville. I think Fayetteville is friendly and generally reaches out to newcomers and has a mix of transplants and natives. One of the things I do complain about is the lack of public transit within the county.
But frankly, I knew that coming here 12 years ago, so it’s just something I’ve had to accept. That is a smattering of my descriptives for the place I call home. How would you describe Fayetteville? Or for that matter, how do you describe whatever place, city, town or community you call home?

What do I love about Fayetteville? I love how the pavillion is five mins away from my house so I can run an errand and come back home. I love how Fayetteville is not too far from everything in the city. I enjoy riding 10 mins from house to hop on Marata if I need too. What I hate about Fayeteville is what it has become. I hate all the traffic lights, the empty buildings, seeing Fulton and Clayton County people disobeying the traffic and common people rules. I hate how I have to drive all the way over to AMC Southlake to enjoy a good movie because Tinsletown has turned ghetto. Deep down in my heart there is no way I could tell someone to move to Fayetteville. I would tell them to move further south like Locust Grove or Newnan…..

I moved to Fayetteville 1 year ago & completely enjoy the QUIET!!. So far, there are no gunshots, loud music & kids who make you fear to walk to your car. The people at the grocery store are actually friendly!!I can see it could change very easily & fast, but for now I LOVE IT!!

Basically I love living in Fayetteville. I like telling people that’s where I live. I don’t like that it’s so far from the freeway. I have to drive at least 30 minutes to get anywhere. The most frustrating thing has to be how slow people in Fayette drive. Sometimes I just sit in my car and marvel at it. It’s like the cars are taken over and will only move to miles below any posted speed limit. What’s up with that??

Fayetteville is a lovely, almost agrarian (but we are losing that fast), bedroom community. I live here and pay high property taxes for the school system. It is not a good place for a single, politically liberal, atheist. My children come first so, I tolerate that I have little in common with most of the people who live here. When the housing market rebounds and my youngest has graduated high school, I’m out of here!!!

“Single, Politically Liberal, Atheist”???? I love Fayetteville because of the free thinking, tolerant Christians. I will continue to pray for those in Fayette. A lot of you really need it!

To WTF: See… I raised your hackles! Glad to hear that there are free thinking, tolerant Christians here. Those few are my friends because they don’t get all “WTF” knowing I believe a bit differently than they do. As for the rest of the conservative, judgmental types who feel it is their duty to pray for me, and others not like them, thanks, whatever makes you feel good about yourself! Atheists are not people who just crawled out from under a rock. There isn’t time or space here to defend by philosophy of life. Just know that there aren’t enough non-judging people in Fayetteville to make me love living here.
