The gift I never want
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As the gift-giving season draws closer each day, there seems to be a barrage of advertisements arriving in the mailbox on a daily basis.
There are ads for things like: kitchen gadgets, clothing, bedding, furniture, televisions and other electronics.
But there is one circular I get that sort of makes me, well, cringe…not only because of the product, but because of the prices associated with it.
I’m talking about perfume. With people struggling to make ends meet, that just seems to be one of the most unnecessary items. Don’t get me wrong. I love the smell of some and don’t want to see them out of business, but personally, I would never ever consider spending $20 or more on an item that does the same thing as soap or lotion. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve ever received a bottle of perfume for any holiday or birthday simply because everyone knows it wouldn’t be money well spent on me.
So, there you have it. I guess I could wear a pin with a picture of a perfume bottle on it and a strike through across the bottle denoting no perfume wanted. What about you? Is there one item that just kind of hits your button every time you see it advertised?
