Career Center comes to Fayette

If all goes as planned, Fayetteville could be home to a Goodwill store and career center, adding more than 60 jobs to the county.

The original proposal wanted to bring the center to Peachtree City, replacing the Kroger supermarket, along Ga. 54. But the residents weren’t happy with the idea and so Kroger reconsidered its closure of the supermarket and Goodwill said it would look elsewhere. If the new location in Fayetteville is approved, it would be behind Picadilly Cafeteria on Ga. 85 and would be 25,000 square feet.

As reported by The Citizen Newspaper: In addition to adding a retail location, the career center would offer prospective employees tips on creating resumes and interviewing skills.

“There’s a similar center located in Macon that has a five-star restaurant attached to it. Students can study culinary arts and then move into the restaurant,” said Matt Forshee, director of Fayette County Development Authority.

Forshee added the average salary of the workers is expected to be around $35,000. The Development Authority will hold a public hearing on the issuing of the bonds Sept. 29 at noon in its courthouse offices.

So Fayetteville-ians…what do you think? Are you alright with this center coming to town? I sure am! Why wouldn’t we want a place where people can better their futures and financial status? Let me know if you think or feel differently about this impending addition to Fayetteville.

OMG can we just change the name from Fayetteville to Clayton County??? A Goodwill store??? Next I guess we can build a huge Pawn Shop and a check cashing place! I am so happy to be moving out of Fayetteville very soon. The place is going down hill fast. Peachtree City didn’t want it because they knew what kind of people comes with a goodwill and career center. I am all for people trying to better themselves but that is what college is for and they have plenty in Georgia. Fayetteville needs to stop building period. They have too many empty buildings just sitting around collecting dust. Mark my works in 5 years Fayetteville will be become Fayettedale… Good luck with that….

You complain about people being on welfare, but you don’t want to help them get jobs if the career center is in your town. What a bunch of elist whiners!

Check your census records before pulling the race card either way. The latest per median income numbers for Fayette County put two income black families above two income white families, if I recall. Also, I challenge you to find me a welfare recipient who’s actively trying to better themselves through community outreach programs. You have to help yourself before you can be helped.

I think it’s racist to assume someone is imitating another race based on poor language. What about that makes you think they are black or white? That’s racist, Racist.

First I would like to say to all of the ignorant people on the blog, who think they are imitating what you think is slang for African American language; you need to take another look, right in your kids bedrooms. I have heard more of this slang coming from “Suburbia” kids than I have ever seen. Rap music blasting from cars from teens who loves hiphop, wearing baggy clothes and swearing worse than any sailor could. Before you start making fun and pointing fingers at what you don’t know, take a look at yourselves first. I have lived in this county for over 13 years. I love Fayetteville and for what is means, FAMILY, INTEGRITY. As for racism. Racism will always be in existence. Hidden racism is the worst racism of all. You even have racism within your own ethnic groups. As for a Goodwill and career center in the county that would be a good idea. The bad idea is to remove more trees when you have several vacant buildings around the county. That’s what happened when the Pavillion was being built. everyone jump ship and ran to the pavillion leaving empty lots for teens to hang out, grass to grow taller than a Georgia pine. We need to utilize our current resources before tearing down more greenspace. As for Clayton County. Don’t assume everything you see is what it is. Don’t assume that HWY 85 in Riverdale is what Clayton county is all about. Go up and down the neighborhood of homes that people have worked hard for. Well educated american black and white. There homes look just like the ones you see in Fayetteville, just another location. Hwy 85 does not define Clayton County. Last but not least. Gentrification and Huricane Katrina ran down Clayton and surrounding counties.

I’m not saying I’m racist. I’m saying YOU’RE racist. Remember Jesus said “Whatever you do for the least of them, you also do for me.” And he didn’t just mean the good stuff.

I’m all for some new business opening in Fayetteville, but like Lynn said; why can’t they use an existing building. The brand new Georgia Backyards is now vacant. Linen & Things, Thomasville Furniture and Goodys are also now vacant. And what about the poor little building in front of Kohls, that has been so many different store and once again it is vacant. Matt Forshee and the Fayette Cty Development should persuade Goodwill to consider some of these other sites.
