Career Center comes to Fayette
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If all goes as planned, Fayetteville could be home to a Goodwill store and career center, adding more than 60 jobs to the county.
The original proposal wanted to bring the center to Peachtree City, replacing the Kroger supermarket, along Ga. 54. But the residents weren’t happy with the idea and so Kroger reconsidered its closure of the supermarket and Goodwill said it would look elsewhere. If the new location in Fayetteville is approved, it would be behind Picadilly Cafeteria on Ga. 85 and would be 25,000 square feet.
As reported by The Citizen Newspaper: In addition to adding a retail location, the career center would offer prospective employees tips on creating resumes and interviewing skills.
“There’s a similar center located in Macon that has a five-star restaurant attached to it. Students can study culinary arts and then move into the restaurant,” said Matt Forshee, director of Fayette County Development Authority.
Forshee added the average salary of the workers is expected to be around $35,000. The Development Authority will hold a public hearing on the issuing of the bonds Sept. 29 at noon in its courthouse offices.
So Fayetteville-ians…what do you think? Are you alright with this center coming to town? I sure am! Why wouldn’t we want a place where people can better their futures and financial status? Let me know if you think or feel differently about this impending addition to Fayetteville.
