Do you show your political support on your car?

During this election season I’ve seen a few, but not many, bumper stickers. I can’t even say if I’ve seen more McCain/Palin stickers or more Obama/Biden stickers but, truth be told, I wouldn’t want to post that kind of personal preference on my automobile.

Let’s be honest…when you see a bumper sticker with the candidate you DON’T want…don’t you just kind of want to give ‘em a little tap with your bumper. Come on…you can admit it.

Maybe, in this volatile era, that’s why I don’t see as many as I’ve seen in past election years. But here’s a little side note to this. I just received an e-mail from my homeowner’s association saying I can’t post political signs in my yard or in the window of my house.

Not that I’d want to, but it’s not like these signs are an eyesore. That’s another blog. Anyway, back to the bumper sticker issue. Do you have one on your car endorsing your candidate of choice? And if not, would you be willing to stick one of them on for all to know?

I display an Obama sticker, but I’ve also noticed far fewer bumper stickers this election cycle. I don’t think the reason is fear of possible road rage, because I don’t believe road rage has increased. Lack of passion? My sense is Republicans and Democrats are about as passionate about their candidates as they have been in the past. It’s a mystery.

On which continent is your Georgia? Posting signs inside your house or on your lawn expressing political views should be protected free speech. I’d move from your association-controlled Soviet satellite back to the United States.

How is that possible or legal in the USA? Put a sign up, Abby. It doesn’t matter whether I or anybody else supports your candidates or your positions. You have a right to your free speach as do we all. When you allow your right to be revoked you encourage those that would revoke mine.

Here in the Northeast, I’ve seen lots of Obama bumperstickers but few McCain ones. I have a McCain-Palin sticker on my car. It’s actually on the rear window for easier viewing by others. I have noticed that local political offices are not open yet or are open at limited times. Perhaps people aren’t able to get there to get a sticker. But the groundswell of support for either candidate isn’t visible around here.

i think the trend varies from state to state. i’ve been down to atlanta twice this year and definitely noticed that fewer people have campaign stickers there on their cars compared to other east coast metros.

i also always notice a higher number of really bright, sporty yellow cars in atlanta though…

I have stickers on my car. I’m thinking/hoping that repeated exposure will influence the same sheep-like folks who’ve been tricked into thinking McDonald’s serves great food will, after seeing my Obama stickers for the 300th time, think “Wow…I’ve seen that name a lot…maybe I should vote for him even though I don’t know anything about the issues.” People are smarter than that, though, aren’t they?

I had to remove my Hillary Clinton bumper sticker because where I live is a college town and I had young people driving by me, flipping me the bird, yelling obscenities, tailgating me and blowing their horn. The last straw came three weeks ago when a 20-something guy tried to run me off the road on the expressway in the rain. He only succeeded in spinning out and into another lane of traffic. Since taking off the bumper sticker that day, I haven’t endured any more instances of the above. It is like I have a dome of tranquility over my car now. Peace. No more political bumper stickers for me!

I support Obama and live in Philadelphia. I’ve seen tons of cars here with Obama stickers (curiously haven’t seen Obama-Biden stickers yet, though). I would suppose that most conservatives in this city see so many Obama stickers on cars that they would have no reason to be upset about me in particular.

Although personally, if I was a McCain supporter, I’d never want to sport a McCain-Palin ticket around here.

By S. Savage

September 24, 2008 10:52 AM | Link to this

I don’t have one and my wife doesn’t either. For one, we are a split family and many are … so having the sticker creates problems.

Personally, I see a lot more Obama than McCain … but the McCain stickers are smaller and harder to see.

I also have a theory that smart people don’t like to put bumber stickers on their cars. Maybe that explain why more Obama ??

Plus a biggest reason is likely that the car bumpers aren’t chrome anymore … they are typically colored and part of the car … so risking the paint job for a bumper sticker just isn’t worth it.

I know you can put it in the window, but most people don’t like that much either, but its probably the smart way to display one.

Risking the marriage harmony for it also isn’t worth it. I think a political sticker puts you car into significantly more risk of getting keyed or otherwise messed with by a hater of your candidate.

I’ve heard of a lot of Obama signs being stolen, but no McCain ones. That should tell you quite a bit about the kind of people who prefer McCain and how tolerant they are of divergent opinions.

When I put a sign on my lawn, it’s going to be booby-trapped so that anyone who touches it will itch for a long time—and I’ll also have a photograph of who did it.

I forgot to mention: I wonder to what extent race has to do with the fact that bumper stickers aren’t as common as in previous elections.

McCain supporters don’t want everyone driving by to think that they are a racist. A conservative friend of mine said he is afraid to tell people that he’s a McCain supporter because of this reason.

White Obama supporters may not be interested in attracting attention from and potentially having a discussion with blacks about how great it will be to have a black president.

I understand that these issues are rarely talked about directly, but the racial undertones in this election are more clear than in any Presidential election past. My argument is this: race is a touchy subject, but it’s inevitable in this election. By not supporting your candidate on your sleeve so-to-speak, you avoid a potentially undesired discussion or confrontation on the race issue.

It is a violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution for a home owner’s association to prohibit posting election signs in the development. This issue has been addressed in many court decisions. I would urge anyone whose right to public speach has been impaired to take and stand and pursue the issue including finding an attorney to help you if necessary.

I drive a rally-inspired race car… nobody screws with me on the road. As far as not wanting to ruin paint jobs, etc… a lot of stickers are made to remove easily (as mine is)…so, that solved that issue. The magnets are great! Politics today is more media, marketing and money than it ever has been. Obama’s got a great machine because you can’t go to a webpage without seeing his ad…and his stickers are free. Smart guy. Good marketing does not equal good politics, however, so I spent $5 to get me a McCain sticker. Hopefully the lemmings will have enough sense to read the positions of the candidates and then vote. I’ll respect an intelligent vote, no matter who its for.

I too live in an HOA which prohibits any and all signs. However, Texas passed a law stating HOA’s cannot prohibit placing a yardsign for a candidate as long as it is within 90 days of an election and no longer than 10 days after an election. I’m still waiting for someone to figure out my Obama bumper sticker is magnetic and take that too.

I may feel like flipping the bird to drivers with McCain stickers, but I can’t imagine keying their car!

We have a bumper sticker on each Toyota Prius for Obama along with a yard sign in our conservative WI city. Recently an older woman who lived down the street knocked on our door and asked about the yard sign. I was sure she was going to tell us we couldn’t have it up, but to my surprise she asked where she could get one! We had a great talk and I told her she could take mine. A couple days later she brought over a new one for us.

I’m just waiting for a bumper sticker that reads “I am Christian and I vote!” to put next to my Obama sticker.

The Chinese won’t name anything (like a street or city) after a person until after he or she is dead. This way if the person publicly disgraces himself, they don’t need to change the maps when they rename it.

Back in 1995 right after returning from 18 years in Germany (US Army) I plastered my old Chevy pick-up with Marine Corps stickers (9 years USMC). In 2003 when the Iraq ware became a reality, I made a home made bumper sticker for the back that said: “Support our Troops, Bring Them Home Alive NOW!”

Now its 2008 and I have had an Obama sticker on my truck since last January. FWIW, I live in the bible belt in Southeast Kansas. I had never gotten a negative response to my homemade sign and even got a lot of thumbs up. The Obama sticker hasn’t seemed to have changed anything in how people treat me or my old truck. You only need to listen to his thoughts on today’s economic situation to know that HE STILL is the best person for the job.

Hint: He has been warning america about this impending financial crisis since the late 70’s and his solution is the same today as it was then - End the Federal Reserve and return to a sound monetary system based on gold and silver. Respect the constitution, slash government size and spending, and restore the republic.

You only need to listen to every other jerk running to see that this is the only plan that makes any sense. Of course no bailout either!

Good luck america. You are getting the government you deserve.

I have 3 custom-made bumper stickers on my Toyota Prius.

From left to right, they read:

MICHELLE OBAMA - The New Poster Girl for ALPO Dog Food

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA - The Only Presidential Candidate Dumber Than Michael Vick

OBAMA ‘08 - The Shortest Way to Tell the Whole World You Are Not Very Intelligent or Informed on Societal Issues

Here is my bumper sticker. One day both McCain and Obama end up in the same barbershop. Neither barber wanted to say anything to avoid conflicting political views. When their haircuts were finished, Obama’s barber went to put some aftershave on him. He refused stating his wife would think he was in a w*******. The other barber asked McCain if he would like any. Yes, he replied, my wife wouldn’t know what a w******* smells like.

You might want to know that around 1994-1995, the Supreme Court decided that a homeowner’s association cannot deny you the constitutional right of freedom of expression by putting a sign in your yard…They can regulate the number and size of signs, but they cannot take that right away from you …. 1st amendment - freedom of expression…some case in St. Louis I think……….

Obama Supporters” don’t need bumper stickers to proudly tell everyone which candidate they support.

The rest of us can already tell for whom they are voting by how they don’t use turn signals… ever, cruise while “keeping it real” in the PASSING LANE, cut off other drivers, back into parking lots (poorly) to take up as many spaces as possible and throw chicken bones out of their car windows and expect other people to pick up after them.

Hmmmm…..

Come to think of it, would anything really “CHANGE” for the lives of “Obama Supporters” once their new “king” rises to power?

I’ve had all of my McCain/Palin stickers ripped off. I actually caught one in the act. I attempted to address the fact that she was committing vandalism by touching my car and removing what was mine. She proceeded to tell me that I should shut the f-up because she knew what was a crime and what wasn’t…..yes, I’m sure she does. I am also, apparently, a racist because I don’t support the first black candidate. I tried to explain to her again…that # 1, he isn’t the first black candidate and # 2…he’s mixed race…not black. That was met with a threat. These are kind of yahoos Obama wants to align himself with??? I don’t give a hot damn who you vote for. Thats the beauty of living in our awesome country. Just leave my campaign stickers alone!!! If you can’t find another, more meaningful way, to contribute to your candidate’s cause…I’d be more worried about your IQ than my bumper sticker.

We don’t see many bumper stickers because Obama has conceded Georgia. They pulled the resources out because we all know Georgia will be in McCain’s column. I have McCain/Palin 2008 stickers on both of my vehicles and I’m noticing more cars each day with McCain stickers.

I am reminded of a comedian named Bill Ingvall. One of his punch line jokes is when you see someone doing something so blatantly stupid, disgusting idiotic, etc. Before you tell them how remarkably dumb they are, check and see if they are wearing their “sign”.If not,”Here’s Your Sign”.And it says “Stupid” so all the world will know why you are being so dumb!!!!! I guess the “OBAMA/08 ” sign would qualify just as well!!!!!!!!

I am appalled at the stupidity of people around here. And yes, I could do a better job, faster and more efficiently. But you idiots will elect some same as all the rest politician……yay. I volunteered at the Republican booth at the North GA Fair last weekend and we were bombarded with good honest hard working folks who were extremely anxious to get a McCain/Palin bumper sticker and yard sign. Unfortunately, in a couple of hours we ran out. That is because we don’t have Middle East Oil money in our bank account to buy the Presidency.

If you want a yard sign or bumper sticker, go to www.johnmccain.com and order one. They don’t charge shipping charges and they are very quick to get it to you.

I personally display “Women For McCain” on my car and McCain/Palin in my yard and am proud to do it.

Look out you liberal dems, we are on the rise and you better watch your ballots!

As President, I Barack Hussein Obama, promise to:

  • Give up on Iraq and pull our troops home.

  • Take the rich peoples money and give it to the poor - especially the useless homeless.

  • Cede any superiority to the president of Iran.

  • Open the border and make it leagal for all Mexicans to vote - therefore creating a permanent voter base for my welfare loving cronies.

  • Tax any innovative or creative idea and funnel to proceeds to those poor old people that just don’t like to work.

  • That is my promise to you the American people.

Given that Obama is the staunchest supporter of abortion (even post-birth) in the Senate, I’m always flabbergasted when I see Obama stickers on the cars of a few members of the congregation of the church I attend. These individuals are part of the minority group that supports Obama at a rate of 92%.

The pastor, without calling any candidate’s name, suggested that everyone view the Saddleback event hosted by Rick Warren. He pointed out that one candidate couldn’t begin to guess when life begins while the second candidate knew the answer immediately.

Go figure. Maybe their bumper sticker should read “Abortionist Baptists for Obama”.

Unfortunately, Obama’s word means more to them than Jesus’.

I would never put a political bumper sticker on my car. The Obama people would slash my tires and damage my car. It would cost me close to $300 to repair everything. It’s just not worth it. We heard many stories from 2004 where people with Bush bumper stickers were vandalized and one woman in Florida was run off the road by a bunch of union thugs. And in this town? No way.

I’d be embarassed to have a McCain sticker on my car or a placard at my home. It shows that someone lacks intelligence to vote for more of the same.

But I don’t have any Obama stickers anywhere, mainly because those repubs are so wicked, they’d probably key my Lexus (like someone mentioned above). Vicious people.

Bumper stickers and yard signs that support ANY candidate speaks volumes about the type of person you are - a pathetic moron who’s opinions do not matter. All you are doing is advertising for a person that does not give a damn about you.

Bloggers, again for ANY political affiliation, are even WORSE. Your OPINIONS are worthless and you are in serious need of a psychiatric evaluation.

Is this what passes for journalism these days? Reason people don’t put McCain stickers on their car is simple: they don’t want a big scratch - or worse - on thier car.

As for signs on the law, good luck with that. As soon as a Republican sign is put up, it’s taken down by a “tolerant” liberal. I speak from experience when I say this. In 2004 I had a Bush lawn sign stolen twice. After the second time I gave up.

Hack Palin’s email, steal lawn signs, scratch cars with McCain signs. That’s the M.O. of today’s Democrat.

The ignorance of some southern people never seems to amaze me. Racism over a bumpersticker is just plain stupid. I see why Georgia kids are stupid, private or public school. This is the type of stuff that is taught at home. The Good Ole Boys are a dying breed, their own greed and destruction is showing in every way. Change with the times or you will be left behind. Keep letting the foreigners in and you will quickly become the minority. Education and intelligence goes a very long way, but if you can barely finish high school and cant read just take my order and give me my food. All I can do is hope you can count when I get my change cause the only color I want to see is green.
