What with these die-hard Dawg fans?

I don’t know how to say this so I’ll just come right out with it- I’m not a football fan.

Please don’t be disgusted with me, it’s just that no matter how many times my husband or friends try to explain it to me, it just goes in one ear and out the other. I like to watch if even if I don’t understand just because a few simple explanations have somehow stuck in my brain.

But my real question has to do with college football. I am the proud parent of a UGA student, who like me, often scratches her head trying to figure out what’s going on. No matter, I obviously route for UGA. But when I’ve met people who didn’t attend UGA, or have no friends or relatives that attended and are UGA fans.

I wonder what connects them to the Georgia Dogs and their football schedule? What is it about that school that they cheer for? For that matter what makes people route for Ga. Tech if they have no connections with that school? So while I may not understand the rules of football I’m really curious to understand the psychology of supporting a college football team if you or a family member didn’t attend.

Just give up you will never understand! If you don’t feel it, you have no chance to understand it!

What gets me is how stores that are geographically closer to Tech hold more U[sic]GA merchandise…

Anyway, people always root for the winner even though they never went to the school…Therefore, the only winner in GA right now is U[sic]GA. My only hope is that Tech overcomes the win drought this November with a win over the Dogs.

Abby, If it’s any consolation you write well enough to be a UGA fan… “What with” and “route for”… are you kidding?

“I like to watch if even if I don’t understand just because a few simple explanations have somehow stuck in my brain.” Change first if to it.

It’s a southern thing, we love football and if the college you attended didn’t have a football team - you pick another team to cheer for! My love for UGA football started in the 80’s with Hershel Walker and I’ve been a fan since!
