Happy with Georgia’s peachy nickname?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As I drive around the metro Atlanta area, I’m constantly reminded that Georgia is known as the “The Peach State,” a fact that is well documented on many license plates.
I actually think that’s a great nickname for our state. It describes something about us in a kind of cute way. You know like we’re a “peach” of a state or we’re as cute as a peach.
Well, maybe that one doesn’t work as well, but I think you get my drift. I researched a few others and Arizona is “The Grand Canyon State;” Florida is “The Sunshine State.”
But I’m curious… are any of you unhappy with our state’s nickname? And if not, what nickname would you like? And please remember… let’s keep it clean.

“Peach” works well and is a now a tradition. We shouldn’t be too quick to change tradition. It’s a glue that helps strenghten civility.

I think “peach” is a tradition worth keeping. The 1996 Olympic mascot should have been something peachy, but they decided against the obvious and came up with something dumb—Izzy.

How about the others: Empire state of the south or Goober State (peanuts)
