Olympic-sized dreams
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I don’t know about you… but pretty much every evening around 8 p.m. I’m tuning into the Olympics.
I watch in amazement how gymnasts twist, turn, and contort their bodies into beautiful movements.
I’m in awe over the speed at which swimmers propel their arms and torsos through the water.
And while watching the volleyball event on Friday night… all I could think about it was how they did it with the combination of heat, sweat and sand surrounding their bodies. I know there are plenty of other events like badminton, shot put, cycling and basketball, that also place you on the edge of your seat, and they are just as exciting.
But lately, when I’ve been watching, I’ve been asking myself, if I could participate in the Olympics, which event would it be? Gymastics? No, I’ve got two left feet. Volleyball? Too hot.
I have to say swimming would probably be it for me. Gliding through the water, just me, my super duper swim suit, and a lane all to myself. I don’t mean to simplify what these Olympians do. Trust me, I believe it’s a super-human feat, something I can only aspire to. But, in my wildest and craziest dreams, if someone said you have to compete in the Olympics, swimming would be it.
What about you? If you could compete, which would be the sport of your choice?
