Plastic, paper or cloth bags?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I don’t know if you heard the news, but the Los Angeles City Council recently voted to ban plastic shopping bags starting July 1, 2010. Shoppers can bring in their own or pay $.25 for a paper bag.
And I’m thinking that’s a pretty good idea. Personally, I do bring my own bags to the grocery store, but on occasion get the plastic ones because I use them as trash liners.
I have other uses for them and it has to do with cats. And that’s about all I want to say about that. Hope you get my drift. What about you? Could you live without the plastic stuff?

I personally prefer the paper bags except for frozen or cold items. The paper bags are from a renewable resource - forests. And paper is recycable. The cloth bags are not a practical option for folks like me who buy most of their groceries just once or twice a month. Cloth bags make sense for people in cities that can walk down to the grocery and just are pick up a few items for one or two meals at most. I would need to haul around 20 cloth bags - get real. With gas prices the way they are, the fewer trips to the store, the more money you save.

You only need about 10 cloth bags for an overstocked buggy of food. One cloth bag will hold the equivalent of FOUR paper or plastic bags. They are also easier to carry and stay upright in your car. I love them!

I shop every other week and have used cloth bags for many years, way before this new trendy thing. You can fit so much more than you do in grocery bags and cold things stay colder. I just keep all of them together inside one of them and they stay in the back of my car…when I use them, restuff and stick on the door handle so that I remember to put them in the car on my way out. If you clean out your drawers, you will prbably find all kinds of freebie totes you have been given over the years, instead of paying a buck a piece for them at Publix/Kroger.
