Alcoholic drinks in restaurants on Sunday. Why not?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Yoo hoo Fayettevillians, it’s baaack.
Yes, come November when we head to the polls to decide on the next U.S. president, we will also decide whether or not city restaurants will be allowed to serve alcoholic drinks on Sunday.
Yep, we’re going to give this ol’ referendum another shot and see what happens. I’m hoping it’ll pass simply because it would bring more revenue to local restaurants, maybe attract new ones, or possibly keep some old ones in business.
So here’s what I want to know from you readers: Please, please help me understand why we shouldn’t allow restaurants serve alcoholic beverages on Sunday. I really want to understand the other side of the argument. So bring it on!

The law needs to be changed. This law was passed to make it illegal to sell alcohol on the Sabbath - the Christian Sabbath, that is. Since this is obviously a violation of the Constitution which establishes a separation of church and state, it’s time for it to go.

This law will never pass in Fayette County. 70% of the county attends protestant churches that preach alcohol is “bad” and they will decide what is best for the rest of us. Of course, they then turn around and bemoan why Fayette can’t get a Red Lobster to open here either. Hmm….. restaurants make most of their profits from alcohol sales NOT food! I will continue to spend my restaurant money outside of Fayette.
