Vacationing with pets
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In a couple of weeks my husband and I are going to do something we’ve never done before- take our two dogs with us on a vacation.
It’s only a three-day stint to Destin where I’ve found a pet-friendly condo and even called a doggie day care, just in case my two mutts don’t find the beach a fun place to frolic.
Whoops! I know dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, so that won’t be happening. But while we are sunbathing I plan to check on them every two hours, walk them in the morning and evening, and if all else fails, will take them to a local place for boarding just during the daytime.
So, here’s my question: Any advice besides the obvious? I will bring plenty of water for the five-hour drive. We will make at least two stops for bladder relief. I will bring their vet records if they need to be boarded.
Am I missing anything? Oh yeah, I’ll bring their familiar toys and blankets. Have you ever taken your animals on a vacation? And am I going to be sorry?

I am trying to understand the value in taking your pets on vacation? I have a dog that I love very much but I would not want to take her on vacation with me.
