Get serious about pool safety
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Summer is pretty much in full swing which means subdivision swimming pools are open for business.
I know it’s early in the season, but our pool area is starting to fill up with moms, dad, young kids, and of course…teenagers.
We do have lifeguards that come in the late afternoon each day, and I believe are there all day on the weekends.
They do their best to keep the peace and watch over the safety of all. But in the past, they’ve really spent more time telling youngsters not to run around the pool and teenagers to not be so rough.
We haven’t had any issues that I’m aware of yet, but what I’m about to write about has happened.
When lifeguards weren’t on duty I remember vividly seeing teenage boys and girls getting a little too crazy in the pool-doing back flips and somersaults from the pool deck into the pool. They were just a little too close to the pool wall for my comfort zone.
It made me very nervous and as a parent and just a concerned citizen about someone’s safety I wanted to tell them to stop, but luckily someone beat me to it. I won’t be surprised if some antics start happening again and unless someone beats me to it again, I’ll step in.
Have you had any subdivision pool incidents yet? How did you handle them?
