Fayette needs a transportation plan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
With gas prices on the rise I contemplate every single trip I take in my car before I take it-whether it’s driving into Fayetteville, just a few miles from my home or Peachtree City, the next town over and maybe 10 miles away.
But the thing that is really bothering me right now is the fact that Fayette County has no public transportation options. I know I’ve written about this before, but its been a long time since it has been discussed. And certainly gas prices weren’t at the record high that they are now. It just seems like a crazy contradiction that Fayette County has a population of folks with some hefty income, yet we don’t have one stinkin’ bus or van or anything to get us from one end of the county to the other.
Does this bother anyone else? And if we did have public transportation would you use it? I know I would!

I agree with what Abby is saying. It is ridiculous that Fayette county cannot at least have a public bus system. Will it take a gas price of $6.00 per gallon to awaken our county officials of the need for such a system. Most 3rd world countries with a GNP less than that of Fayette county have a bus system. Come on county commissioners, wake up and smell the gas. PDB

Yes, we desperately need some commute options. I’m most interested in the commuter options for getting to the downtown Atlanta area, for the working people who live in Fayette county. The problem is, too many of the Fayette County citizens don’t want any sort of transit for fear of supporting a low income lifestyle, subsequently a low income county.
I can see that point, but we’ve reached a point where the elitism of Fayette County has become detrimental to the citizens. Fayette county should have been involved in the GRTA planning stages years ago, not turning its nose up to the opportunity.

I drive 70 miles roundtrip to work Monday - Friday. I would like nothing better than to take public transportation. But to do that would add at least an hour each day to my commute and I would have to drive half way to work just to get on MARTA. Not really an option.
