Working out on the Southside
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
If you put the words “fitness Fayette Georgia” into the Google search engine, you’ll come up with a decent listing of places to workout for those of us on the Southside and in particular, in Fayette County.
There’s World Gym, Maximum Output, Curves and more. But there’s one place I couldn’t find in that listing and that is a place called Jazzercise.
Diane Hood ran the franchise out of the Fayette United Methodist Church gym for several years, but recently opened up her very own place behind Waffle House on Ga. 85 in the middle of Fayetteville.
As a Jazzercise for years, I can only tell you it’s the perfect exercise for me. There are several reasons why: There’s no intimidation factor at all; Plenty of explanation about how to perform the exercise properly and maybe best of all is the fabulous music to exercise by.
In the hour-long classes, there’s a bit of stretching followed by a cardio workout, then on to abdominal work and strength training and then ending with a good stretching routine.
As I mentioned before, it works for me and it works for me about three times a week. On my off days I do get on a treadmill, but it’s not nearly as much fun. Any of you out there on the exercise path? If so, what works for you?

I have been in Jazzercise classes for 12 years and have experienced many instructors. But Diane is at the top of my list. She gives a variety to her workouts and always with a positive attitude and compassion for all students. I have tried other fitness centers, but always come back to Jazzercise. Not only do I get a great workout, but I have fun.

Thanks for letting everyone about know about a great workout facility. Jazzercise is pure fun, with the added bonus of fitness.

I have been “Jazzercize-ing” for about 6 or 7 years and I still enjoy it. In addition to the great benefits of exercise, I’ve met some really nice people and made some great friends. Diane is a WONDERFUL instructor (not to mention a sweet lady too) and never (I MEAN NEVER) fails to give us a good workout. I sometimes feel guilty when I miss class. It’s also nice to know that I can travel around the country and find a Jazzercise class too!

I have attended Jazzercise for 1 year. 3 days a week. I have so much fun! I love the music. I also like that it has a lot of cardio in the workouts. I like that it is mostly women. No offence Guys! I live in Griffin, Ga and I work in Forest Park,Ga so I go to the Fayette Location. I go to the Zebulon,Ga Location on Saturdays. Once you belong to Jazzercise you can go anywhere & any state where available. So come and join us! Lisa Crawford

As one of the very few guys that goes to Jazzercise in Fayetteville, I find the workouts great and indeed challenging. Diane is a terrific teacher even though she picks on me most classes (which I don’t mind a bit). I’d like to see more men (husbands) join the classes. What are you guys afraid of anyway ???

Because I love to move to the music, Jazzercise doesn’t seem like exercise at all. It is a fun way to spend an hour working out among smiling faces and an enthusiastic instructor. I have been “jazzin” for about 9 years even though I took time off when my local Jonesboro center closed. Other activities never compared with the Jazzercise classes, so when I learned of the Fayetteville Center, I was delighted to begin again (even driving the 15 miles or so to classes 4 or 5 times a week.) Diane is such a wonderful instructor and I LOVE her classes. She will get you moving and grooving. I highly urged you to participate. Men and women, young or not so young, all sizes and shapes are welcomed.

28 pounds and 2 years ago, I joined the Fayette Jazzercise class! After hip-replacement 4 years ago, I knew I had to make a change in my lifestyle—and this was it. I really enjoy the music and the fun of this group. I like the flexibility of the classes; if I miss one at the time I normally go, I try to make it up on another day or at another time. As Tony the Tiger says—“It’s Grrrreat!”

I too love to Jazzercise! I love the fact that the center is so close to my home and I don’t have to drive too far. I looked for other places to workout but have found that the concept at Jazzercise fits me best. Diane, along with her assistants Julie, Ivette, and Stephanie allow those of us that come to exercise in a non-threatening, fun-filled atmosphere. There’s no pressure. Each person can work at their own pace. The music is good and the people are friendly. Diane Hood is the greatest! And she sings well too!

I am glad to see information sent out on Jazzercise! I am a 64year old mother and grandmother. I joined Jazzercise when I moved to Fayetteville nine years ago. It is more than just a place to exercise. I have made many wonderful friends there. It became a good “habit” for me. I have arthritis and without it would suffer more pain and stiffness.

I love the music at Jazzercise. I can pretend that I am a dancer and no one will laugh at me (not to my face, anyway!). It’s a great workout, it’s never boring, the times are convenient, and I’ve made so many friends. And, best of all, I have some muscles! It is by far the best workout ever.

I have never done Jazzercise but I love going to LA Fitness and taking a spinning class or going for a swim in their pool. We need an LA Fitness in Fayetteville!

We are jazzin’ in Fayetteville! We have a new center (thanks to Dianne and a LOT of work). It is sooo cool, the decor is warm and inviting, and oh yes the workout is the BEST! You can get a really good class for an hour and you are having so much fun you don’t even notice that you are doing your body a good thing. The people in class are friendly and the nicest group you will ever meet. You can jump right in, even if you have never done it. Before you know it, you are movin’ and groovin’ and just having a great time! It is aerobic, strength and flexibility, all in one hour. All ages and fitness levels are there, so come on down! No this is not a paid advertisement, I’m just addicted to Jazzercise and love Dianne and her assistents.
