Would you pay to use a grocery cart?

I don’t know about the rest of you grocery store-shoppers, but every single time I set foot inside a supermarket, I’m amazed at the rising costs.

A gallon of milk: $3.99 and cereal (oh my goodness): $3.89 or something like that. Prices are just out of sight.

I know Kroger and Publix have great sales and yes, they help on the savings, but it’s a hit and miss thing on the items you want.

But here in Fayetteville, we do have a place called Aldi, where four applesauce cups cost $.89 and a 64 ounce container of orange juice costs $2.29.

It’s pretty much lower prices all the time compared to the bigger stores because there is catch to these eye-catching prices.

If you want to use a cart it’ll cost you $.25 to remove the buggy from its locked position, but then you get your money back once you return it (No more of those carts sitting in parking spaces because someone didn’t want to return it). In addition, you’ll have to bag your own groceries.

And if you didn’t bring in your own bag, you’ll have to buy one for I believe it’s $ .10. So, there you have it. If you want to save money, there is a price to pay, so to speak.

I for one have shopped there and have found many good deals on fruits, vegetables and other items.

Many are not name brand, but if they taste as good, who cares. So what about you? Would you be willing to use a quarter to get a cart knowing you’d get it back and bag your own groceries to save some money?

It is not that I would not use it… but who has time… the problem is I pay for the convenience and customer service because most of the time I have not time to shop for bargains, etc…

Yes, I would pay to return my cart and get my quarter back if my prices were lower. And I don’t mind bagging my own groceries. In some cases, I do a better job than the current bag boy/girl….

I TOLD you Aldi had great deals!! I am so glad they’re in Fayette County now. Watch out for the whole chickens though - you may have more feathers than you bargained for. Frozen chicken breasts are a great deal though.

I would pay the .25 in order to keep the buggies from hitting my car in the parking lot. Great idea, I wish all stores did this.

What is a Grocery Cart? The store I shop at has buggies. :) And guess what? They don’t charge to use them. Who wants to shop in a dumpy place that charges for carts?

Europeans have done this for decades. The benefits are: 1. Reduced cost of food because the store no longe has to pay employees to chase down carts. 2. Fewer carts are stollen because they are chained together - further reducing costs 3. Customers return carts to a central location for that quarter and fewer cars get dinged by loose carts.

All around - A Winner!
