The weekend retreat — Talking about a park
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This weekend, the Peachtree City Council will take its annual time-out to plan its future.
The two-day retreat — March 2 and 3 at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center — is scheduled to cover a range of topics — a mid-year financial review, an update on the city’s stormwater utility, a capital improvements schedule and a proposed expansion of the city’s recycling program.
The retreat is open to the public. There’s a 243-page agenda packet available for citizen review at www.peachtree-city.org.
In my own perusal of the retreat agenda, one of the items that caught me eye was a proposed Gerald F. Reed Jr. Memorial Park.
The park, named for the city’s second fire chief, would be located on the site of the city’s first fire station at Paschall Road, Clover Green and Ga. 74. Conceivably, it would be a passive park convenient to industrial park employees and might include a plaza with a fire department memorial, a terraced seating area, a demonstration building and a display building.
Potential funding sources include community donations, cash donations from industrial park tenants, grants and the sale of bricks or pavers to the community.
It sounds like the park would be a nice addition to the city’s recreational landscape, especially for those who work in the industrial corridor. Would you be willing to offer community support to the project?
