Happy with Georgia’s peachy nickname?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
As I drive around the metro Atlanta area, I’m constantly reminded that Georgia is known as the “The Peach State,” a fact that is well documented on many license plates.
I actually think that’s a great nickname for our state. It describes something about us in a kind of cute way. You know like we’re a “peach” of a state or we’re as cute as a peach.
Well, maybe that one doesn’t work as well, but I think you get my drift. I researched a few others and Arizona is “The Grand Canyon State;” Florida is “The Sunshine State.”
But I’m curious… are any of you unhappy with our state’s nickname? And if not, what nickname would you like? And please remember… let’s keep it clean.

Thoughts for a labor-free day
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Since it’s Labor Day and many of you are hopefully enjoying the day off, I thought I’d throw a few random questions your way.
Since it is a holiday of sorts, these aren’t mind-bending questions, just things I’ve been pondering. Here goes:
1)What does the bumper sticker “Pray for Riverdale” mean to you? 2) Have you ever seen those small black rectangular bumper stickers with a royal blue stripe running horizontally? What is their significance? 3) When someone is trying to merge into a lane, why do some drivers speed up and then make it difficult for that person trying to get in? 4) And finally, what is your idea of a labor-free day?

What I want at the grocery store
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I recently found out that the Kroger supermarket on south Ga. 85 in Fayetteville will be expanding. I know a reader recently mentioned that on one of my blogs, but I wanted to be sure. So I spoke with the store manager who confirmed that the Hallmark store next door that is closing soon, will provide the extra room needed for the expansion. With that said, I started to wonder about what section of the market will grow. Maybe they will add a brand new section, like a place to sit and eat. I’d vote for that, and maybe a larger section of international items. They have some items, but it’s somewhat limited. So, knowing that Kroger will be growing what would you like to see more of? Â Food? Beer and wine? International products? Or are you happy with the selection offered now?

Do you trash those irritating HOA letters?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Do you live in a subdivision like me?
And if you do…do you ever get those threatening, not to mention irritating letters from your HOA regarding some sort of curb-appeal-problem, for instance grass clippings blown into the street or a trash can that’s visible from the road?
How about one of my personal favorites…construction debris in the driveway where, guess what… Yep, construction is going on! I know I’ve written about this before, but what I want to know is what do you do with those letters?
Do you rip them up? Send them back to the association with some nasty remarks? Throw darts at it? Or, when you’ve collected your thoughts, just take care of the problem? I say a few expletives, and then do my best slam dunk into the trash can. And yes, I do fix whatever they’re complaining about.

Fido goes to college too!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m an animal lover from way back, especially dogs.
I grew up with dogs and have a couple of nutty mutts now. I also know dogs are a lot of work. They need attention, walking, feeding, medical care, and who knows what else. But lately, I’ve been hearing about college-age kids having dogs and cats in their apartments.
And while I understand the love of animals…that just seems so…umm (you fill in the word) at that time in someone’s life. That last thing I wanted while attending college was an animal of any kind.
Even fish would have been an annoyance. Yes, dogs are adorable and can be wonderful company after hours of classwork, but it just seems like a big inconvenience. But like so many things I don’t understand, I’m hoping one of you readers can help me see the light on this one. Do you know any college kids with animals? Has the animal helped them in any way?
