Will new BOE turn CCPS around?

It’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a full, completely revamped board of education who promised to put our children first.

The initial meeting with our new board transpires tonight, immediately following the 6 p.m. swearing in of Pam Adamson (District 1), Ophelia Burroughs (District 5), Mary Baker (District 6) and Charlton Bivins (District 9). The Board rounds out with: Wanda Smith (District 2), Jesse Goree (District 3), Michael King (District 4), Trinia Garrett (District 7) and Alieka Anderson (District 8).

Although there are 15 items on the agenda, three in particular will shape the immediate future of Clayton County Public Schools: Item VIII. - Election of Board Chair; Item IX. - Election of Board Vice Chair; and Item XIV.C. - Conducting a Superintendent Search (Mandate #9). According to the CCPS website, only one of the nine SACS mandates (Mandate #7) has been met thus=2 0far, although this entirely new board should complete Mandate #1. Public Participation (Item IV.) is also on tonight’s agenda.

How the BOE deals with these issues will give residents a glimpse into the leadership we elected, and whether school board members will adhere to their constituents’ wishes or not - although the latter is bound to happen because they can’t please everyone. Tonight’s meeting takes place in the Board Room of 1058 Fifth Avenue, Jonesboro, at 6:30 p.m.

Will you attend this meeting? Who would you like to see as BOE Chair and Vice Chair? What other agenda items interest you?

I think Dr Pam Adamson should be chairman and Alieka Anderson or Charlton Bivins for vice-chairman. If Jessie Goree get chairman and they don’t do a search for superintendent, we can forget getting accreditation back.

I really do not see how the BOE can change anything around with, all them John Trotter(MACE)members of Garret, Gorrie, Ms. Michael B. King sitting up on the BOE Board Members because they will always do the well of MACE and John Trotter no maater what.

Then you have State Rep Jordan (Lee/Jewel Scott close personal friend) that is also a GOLD CARD Member of Mace and if my memory serves me right he is the one that also controls the New Ethics Board for the BOE,and also putting his and Mace and Lee/Jewel Scott friends up on that board, so this Ethics Board is already tainted and will not be effective in punishing any BOE Board Member because of State Rep Jordan conflict of interest.

I believe with all this going on that the BOE will never get the accrefitation back and how can they with all these influances of self serving Elected Officials that does not really care about our children as they always claim they do.

So when they tell you they do, you know they are telling you a BIG BARE FACE LIE.

I believe Pam Adamson should be Chair also. She’s a current SACS reviewer, has been Asst. Superintendent for CCPS who oversaw the budget among other things, and has the experience/leadership we need. Alieka has done a fine job but but Pam’s qualifications and leadership abilities is without question what we need in the Chair position right now. And she has no affiliations with anyone.

People need to stop stressing about whether the board’s actions will affect accreditation, for the simple reason that Sonny and Elgart have already decided to restore it.

No, not for anything the board did or didn’t do, but because yanking it has already served its political purpose, and for Elgart, if he doesn’t restore it after a new board is sworn in, the focus will shift on how the board conducts itself, and onto how Elgart conducts himself in regard to SACS, and that’s a can of worms that Elgart is desperate to not open up.

Let’s just say you could catch a lot of fish with those worms, but not the kind of fish Sonny was thinking about when he got on that fishing kick awhile back.

So relax people. Acceditation has been restored. Of course it hasn’t been announced yet. After all, they have to create the apperance that the board actually met the mandates, most of which you might notice, were so subjectively written that Elgart can decide on his own timetable whether or not they been met.

Plus, the other reason they won’t be announced for awhile is that Elgart is having too much fun watching Thompson and the board perform tricks for him like his own personal circus animals.

Say what you want about the above, but you won’t be saying it next year, because by this time next year, accreditation will be a dead issue.

Stop worrying and continue to hold the board members accountable. Do not be fooled again we were told not to worry back in August. See where that got us - loss of our accreditation.

Beware of Bivin and Anderson they are already aligned with Thompson. Burroughs is questionable because she seems to just want to be a part of the team.

Adamson seems to be the best choice for chair but I would be more comfortable with Mary Baker. This whole thing is a crap shoot. But remember there are four seats up in 2010.

Right now we want our accreditation back and everyone who ran for office promised that would be priority. Lets hold them to the fire. Oh yeah Revive the search for superintendent!

Pam Adamson would get my vote for Board Chair, she’s got all the qualifications and no alliances with iffy unions (MACE & all the rest of em). Don’t know if I’ll attend tonight’s meeting, just found out about it on this blog!

Oh yeah, given the choices guess I’d have to go with Mary Baker for co-chair, although I’m not crazy about her in general.

By Stop Worrying

January 5, 2009 12:55 PM | Link to this

To say we were told not to worry about accreditation back in August totally misses the point. We weren’t told that by Sonny and Elgart. We were told that by Thompson, and his actions have no real bearing on whether or not accreditation is restored.

That depends on the actions and motivations of Sonny and Elgart, and the temporary revocation has served its purpose. With a new board in place, permanent revocation runs the risk of taking the spotlight off the board and putting it squarely on Elgart and SACS, something they absolutely don’t want.

Continue to hold the board accountable, just don’t worry that accreditation rides on it. Oh don’t get me wrong, the appearence that it rides on it is vitally important. But the reality is that it’s a Sonny and Elgart decision, that’s why most of the mandates were written so subjectively, so that Elgart can set his own timetable.

You can say what you want about this, but by this time next year it’ll be falling on deaf ears, as accreditation will no longer be an issue.

I hope all understand that setting the bar at accreditation is a huge mistake. It must be set much higher than that, almost putting accreditation as an afterthought. In this context, I agree with “Stop Worrying”.

With the new board, we must now set the tone as we move forward. That means putting people in place who have the qualifications, vision, and experience to lead us down that path. Accreditation is essential now but it should be the lowest our bar should be set. It should be only one data point on our school system set of indicators. In other words, running the school system so that accreditation is kept is not where our sights should be. Think bigger and better.

It will take more than a new school board to fix CCPS. It desperately needs more highly-qualified teachers - principals that stand up to the students and lay down the law - administrators that will back up their teachers and principals - a new found co-operation in the law enforcement between the County Police and the Sheriff and the county court system - and the most important, parents who give a damn and teach their kids that the only way up and out is thru education.

Alieka has done a decent job as chairperson. Maybe she should stay. The meetings do move forward and Lord knows they try their best to stay within Roberts Rules of Order. If Ms Adamson gets it - as qualified as she is - God knows that Trotter , Dowell and the Scotts minions will scream racism, because that is all they see. As for co-chair Charlton Bivins or Mary Baker seem best suited - level-headed and not prone to the Goree and King diatribes we have seen.

Kimberly my fair lady first and foremost Happy New Year. Thank you for your labor of love with this blog.

Now to the matter at hand. Will the new BOE turn CCPS around?

The short answer to your question is yes. If you would be so kind I would like to expound on my answer and in so doing answer some of your other questions.

The BOE can and will turn around CCPS with leadership of the highest moral integrity. What is it that the young squires and damsels say in this century……….oh now I remember……Game recognizes game.

It has taken some time understand that saying but I have come to 2 different understandings of if. The first is that one can either recognize that one is clandestine in their dealings or that one operates in integrity in their dealings.

With that said I can only think of 2 members of the board that I believe will operate in integrity, are qualified to lead and are not influenced by outside factions that seek the demise of CCPS. As a King I have to be very astute in the judgment of ones character as my decisions can have a positive or negative effect on my Kingdom. The two persons that I believe would run the board with utmost efficiency, fairness and ethics are Alieka Anderson and Pam Adamson. I do not think that the BOE would go wrong if either of these damsels held either the Chair or Vice Chair position. I would like to make it clear that the both of them are who I would like to see in those positions. The choice is a logical one if one puts emotions to the side. Lady Anderson has been current chair for over 6 months and has made sure the board has run smooth. She has exhibited her ability to lead and most specifically with the call to censure Michael King a member of one of my mortal enemies as well as the call to strip the giant called Thompson of his god like powers (I have not seen such pompus flair with the dress of a man in all my days). It would not be beneficial to the board to have someone new as chair who has not already been dealing with Thompson one on one and has him on a proverbial leash.

The call of duty has brought Lady Adamson back to service in the land and I could not be happier. Lady Adamson was formerly second supt in command of the BOE and already knows the ins and out of procedures, budgets and policies. She would make an excellent compliment to Lady Anderson or vice versa and ensure that the board stays on task in meeting the required mandates as detailed by SACS.

Unfortunately I cannot say such raving words or Lady Goree, Lady Garret or squab known as king. All of the aforementioned have ties back my arch enemy Trotter from the Saxon clan. This man is hell bent on the being the puppet master of the BOE. He is pulling strings with his former staff esquire King and has gotten cozy with Lady Goree & Garrett. I am sorry but someone from the savage Saxon Clan who has made as many enemies and run as many campaigns for candidates that have harmed the hamlet of Clayton cannot be trusted!!

Black Rain,

I understand what you’re saying. If our Board Members, our Superintendent, teachers, staff, business leaders, and community cannot stand up to the likes of Trotter, Dowell, and Scotts or anyone affiliated with their kind and say ENOUGH - then all hope is lost anyways and will make no difference. The cycle will continue. We can’t be concerned with them - only aware. They’re only as powerful as we let them be.

A question about Anderson. If this Pam Anderson was the assistant superintendent at CCPS, is there a track record of her addressing the behavior problems and lack of support that lead to low teacher morale and high teacher turnover?

If not, are really really moving forward, or just going back to a status quo where the problems were the same, but everybody just acted in a more professional manner about it?

Kim, Looked at the agenda. Can some one find out why the superintendent search is last on the agenda, following an executive session that could last for hours. We the taxpayers deserve to be considered. This tactic has gotten old and we ask the new board to do new things that are right!

People they are starting out screwing the public again. They hope that we will all leave after they go into executive session. Lets stick and stay and prove them wrong. So some of us need to get there a little later so that we can stay a little longer.

Repeat! You were listening to Thompson last time. Thompson’s not a player in the accreditation drama. It’s strictly a two man show, Elgart and Sonny.

The end game has been obvious from the beginning. Yank the accreditation, get done what you need to get done, and then restore it before any lasting damage comes to the 2009 senior class.

If I’m wrong, you come back this time next year and say so, but my guess is accreditation issues will be a distant memory by then.

I’m not saying CCPS doesn’t have real issues, just that accreditation isn’t going to be one of them. And getting it back isn’t going to do anything to address them. Time will tell.

the best choice for chair is Alieka Anderson. She has shown strong leadership censuring Michael King, Announcing a search for a permanent superintendent and she has been a great job moving the meetings forward. She has shown the backbone needed in the school board. Pam Adamson would make an excellent vice-chair. They would have to be able to work together and I think they will be able to. If Goree, Garrett or King are elected to any leadership on the board accreditation is gone! Nevermind all the hoopla about accreditation is being restored anyway. Hogwash! been there, done that and I’m not for leaving anything up to chance. Bivins is questionable. I’m suspect of any person who comes in fresh and want’s to become chairman. To Curious Observer

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you don’t know the history of Dr. Adamson. She was Asst. Supt during Clayton’s heyday and pre-dates the decline of the school system. She was never a part of the school board debaucle at the hands of the unholy trinity of Ware, Davis and Kitchens. It was during their tenure and causing the CCPS to go on probation that the moral and exodus of teachers began.

Meant Pam Adamson. Don’t know anything about her, but if she was part of the system, just wondering what her track record as far as supporting teachers was.

As someone else pointed out, we need qualified teachers and we need someone who will stand up to students and lay down the law, and was curious as to her stands on that while at CCPS.

Thank God Alieka Anderson can not be re-elected as chair! Watch the taped recording of the meetings and you will understand why I say that. Stop trying to make this about King! He is just one board member. Focusing on him has no value.

The same old divisive tactics are being set into play so that those who would tell us the truth about the contracts and money are portrayed as ignorant. Do not let it happen again. Hold steady everybody this ride is not over yet.

Pam Adamson as chair and Ophelia Burroughs as vice chair gets my vote. They seem to have the honesty and integrity needed to move the board forward.

JOhn Steward In the beginning teachers left not because of morale it was the demographics. That was their right. Do not attempt to give them some excuse such as morale. Yes morale is at the bottom but let us be clear about the exodus!

Alieka Anderson is not the calibre of Chair we need for this board. We need someone who is not aligned with Thompson and Bell.

Pay close attention to Goree, King and Garrett they will be the ones who will unviel board corruption and when they do they will be politically assasinated by those who are in control of the half billion dollar budget. They ae being set up for the next fall.

Right now Thompson and Bell are working their hardest to keep the corruptors in the money. That we they hold on to their ability to bamboozle the taxpayers while getting PAID themselves.

The only choice for Chairwoman of the Clayton County School Board Of Education is Ms. Alieka Anderson. Ms. Anderson has shown superior, mature, intelligent, smart, and out-front leadership during her term as Chairwoman throughout the remainder of 2008 when she was elected to the school board representating District 8 during the summer of 2008.

Alieka cares about the students in our Clayton County School System and Alieka cares about getting Clayton County Public School’s Accreditation restored again which will occur under her leadership of the Clayton County School Board Of Education.

I support Ms. Alieka Anderson for Chairwoman of the Clayton County School Board Of Education and Ms. Pam Adamson as Vice-Chairwoman of the Clayton County School Board Of Education.

Let’s say that Goree, King, and Garrent are in some sort of alliance. Although I don’t think a ten year old newsletter proves it, wasn’t Anderson also aligned with one organization much more recently, until it became politically advantagous to switch to another?

But even if Gorree, King, and Garrett are together, what if one of them does uncover some corruption, such as another land deal?

Will people look at what they say objectively, or just dismiss it because of some affliation?

It seems like looking at who was with who, instead of looking at the corruption that went on lead to things like the land deal. Let’s just hope the board is willing to put aside who is with who and work together so we don’t have another land deal on our hands.

Ms. Alieka Anderson is only aligned with the students in the Clayton County Public School System and the parents who want to make our school system respectable in the eyes of the other state of Georgia public school systems, great, and accreditated again.

I have attended every board meeting! We need to keep Alieka Anderson chairwoman. We also need Pam Adamson vice-Chair. Alieka has done a great job despite not having a full board to work with.remember it was under her leadership that Michael King was censured and sent to the ethics committee. It was under her leadership that the transition of board seats were conducted. As far as her being aligned with Thompson, it was Alieka who said we must conduct a search for permanent superintendent. Of all the choices on the board for leadership, those two are the best. I saw the pictures of Goree posted on this blog last week. I am disappointed to say the least. I thought we were done with Trotter for good but he is alive and well and working via Goree, King and Garrett. The proof has been posted on this very site. Burrouggs, Smith, Bivins and Adamsom will have to take their seat and time will tell what side of the fence they fall on.

King is a joke to everyone - Goree just does not have the temperment and Garrett - well those of us who know - the police are ready for tests at any meeting.

It was Alieka who led the meeting to censure King - but she was not the one who called for censure. The lawyers brought up the ideas and another board member actually put up the motion.

Will new BOE turn CCPS around?

Who knows; but your statement, “…How the BOE deals with these issues will give residents a glimpse…” is very true.

How did the meeting go last night? Did the BOE have a modicum of professionalism? Did it appear that they would try to tackle the issues?

What’s with the idea that Sonny and Elgert have anything to do with accreditation? It’s SACS, not anybody else. Well SACS, the BOE, and the superintendent; nobody else.

Will they hire a good super? I doubt it. For some reason most BOEs go for these “national-search-professional-types’ and then overpay them. All the while, I’m sure there are qualified local people who could just as good a job for less than what we pay Thompson in salary, benefits, perks, et al. We shouldn’t have to give someone a driver, limo-type vehicle, a house, guaranteed retirement for 3-4 years service, free Falcons tickets, ad nauseum. I would think there are many qualified people who would do just as good a job for a good salary. If they’re already in the system, they already have retirement, etc. But I won’ hold my breath on the hiring issue.

In the current economic climate, the bloated admin should be reduced by a minimum of 10%. The remaining staff (above clerk level) should take a pay cut of 2-3%.

Back to the original question. Yes, it depends on how the new BOE responds and deals with the SACS issues.

    A Good Start!

Well…., It looks like or band of the magnificent 9, the new school board members, had their thinking caps on last night and did not choose to make the same mistake that the old school board had made by hiring a politician/ educator, Dr. John W. Thompson! It is my hope that the new school board will not allow Doc Thompson to submit his name as a candidate for the school system’s superintendent position, because it will cause him to become much more engaged politically and this may cause the district to become polarized, those who are for Doc Thompson staying, and those in the district who want to see him gone! This was part of the problem concerning Dr Barbra Pulliam and her replacement for the school superintendent position. The new school board of Clayton County will have to make some vary hard decisions in the next few months on what kind of superintendent they want to have and they will have to make decisions on streamlining the system so that it will provide the much needed educational and supportive services for the children of Clayton County Schools, from the feedback that I have received, the people of Clayton County are willing right now, to support good decisions to change the school system for our kids. At this point, I am not sure if it will be wise to jump the gun and say that the school board should rehire the firm of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to conduct the search for a new superintendent, as my good friend and fellow realtor Mr. David Barton, of the Metro South Association of Realtors had suggested. I do think that the school board is on the right track in waiting until they received the training on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 from the officials with the Georgia School Boards Association on how to conduct a national superintendent search before proceeding with the decision on who to hire for the superintendent search.

Just a quick note about the big mouth, Ms. Cyd Cox, president of the Clayton County Council Parent-Teacher Associations, an associate of Mr. Anthony Williams, the founder of the DADS organization, you know the big guy, the tall 350lb brother with the dreadlocks, the one who was suppose to provided us with men (mentors) for our children in the schools of Clayton County, and the Kingmaker of our newly elected school board member from district nine, Mr. Charlton Bivins. Ms. Cox should stay out of politics and keep her mouth shut! I believe this woman should be remove and replaced from her current position as president of the Clayton County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations. The woman appears to be highly political and I believe that she does not serve the students, parents, and teachers of Clayton County well! It’s not a good thing to have anyone in the position as president of a non-political organization like the Clayton County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations. The Charter of the organization strictly forbids the organization and its officials of being political, and we could loose our Internal Revenue Service designation as a 501 C3 nonprofit tax exempt organization by the way in which she conducted herself during the County’s pasted election cycle; as a member of the organization the idea of someone being so public and political on issues that is not supported in our bylaws and our national charter does not set well with me!

A big shout out and Congratulations to Ms. Alieka Anderson and Ms. Ophelia Burroughs for being elected to the Clayton County School Board as the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson respectively by their fellow board members! I hope to write and expound on their success and good decision making for the children and citizens of Clayton County Georgia.

    Thank you! C4

It is quite comforting and reassuring to know that there are professional, positive, intelligent, smart, knowledgeable, competent, and capable African (Black) Americans that know how to properly govern and lead a major professional organization like the Clayton County School Board Of Education.

Again, our fine Clayton County Public School System is in great, capable, sound, and safe hands under the leadership team of our continuing Chairwoman Ms. Alieka Anderson, our newly elected Vice-Chairwoman Mrs. Ophelia Burroughs and the other elected members of the Clayton County School Board Of Education with our reaccreditation totally, completely, and absolutely assured by the end of this school term 2008-2009.

The BOE is important to our county and its possibility of a turnaround. The Clayton BOC is also. Their antics in the past few weeks are disturbing. Several weeks ago – a $20 million discrepancy was brought to light. The person who uncovered this is a longtime consultant to the county. Does Wole Ralph just want to sweep this $20 million problem under the rug? Where did it go? Of course – following the norm in Clayton county and the entire Atlanta area – since the county financial person is black and the consultant is white - Wole is crying racism. Soo sad – he had promise but has stooped to the low level of the likes of JT and GD and LS

Thompson is/has done a great job, but we need a fresh start. I have lived in other states due to the military and I have to say this school board needed a complete change from the supertinedent on down. We appreciate Thompson contributions, but we need someone who will turn it around. We need balance in Clayton county, a mixture of people, all races, not one color in government, school boards, and etc.

Our accreditation is assured all right. But it has nothing to do with who the board elects, or what the board does, or who the superintendent is, even though one could guess that Elgart loves making them jump through hoops like circus performers.

Our accreditation is assured because Sonny and Elgart say so. They just can’t announce it yet, because they have to keep up the appearence that the board did something to earn it. It’s why most of the mandates were written so subjectively, to interpret them as Elgart sees fit. Thing is, SACS permanently revokes it now, and the focus shifts from the board to Elgart and that’s the last thing Elgart and Sonny want.

Stop Worrying. By this time next year, accreditation will be ancient history.

Well, I was at last night’s BOE meeting and I must say, Thompson was finally put in check. The meeting went by quickly thanks to Chairwoman Anderson for staying on task. I am also quickly gaining respect for Adamson (called for more info on scheduled No. 9 bid) and Burroughs (elected as new Vice-Chair) and all appeared sober to me, lol. Kuddos to Burroughs and to the silencing of the previous grand-stander.

Of course, they waited until the last minute to serve notice on corn-fed Thompson. He rambled on and on thru his little speech (few listened) and he had his poker face on when the entire BOE finally decided on opening up a national search. Long over due. Despite that setback, his Cheshire grin was back after they amended the vote to allow him to apply as well (some good it will do him, lol).

Anyways, the new BOE is better than the old, new and improved, despite the three Trotter hanger-ons. The BOE votes will probably remain 6-3 for the remainder of the year, lol. I do notice how some BOE members routinely don’t look up and out at the audience. Some of these clowns continue to pout and hang their heads. Whatever! Never trust a person who cannot go eye to eye or toe to toe!

We also has several elected officials present and hopefully the entire community will become invested in the success of the BOE. Only time will tell.

    Now on to the BOC……

The reason King wanted Thompson gone was because of Trotter’s dislike for Thompson, not because it was for the good of Clayton County or the school system. Big difference.

    By Who will be objective?

    January 6, 2009 6:15 PM | Link to this

Given Thompson’s performance, and his ego, I’m not sure why disliking him is a bad thing. It seems like disliking him and wanting him gone for the good of the system pretty much go hand and hand, and King was the first to stick his neck out there and say he should go.

It’s not like people are saying what a great guy, too bad he has to go are they?

Not a general defense of Michael King by any means, but it seems like part of the problem is we try to demonize personalities instead of looking at issues.

No way Sid Chapman is with GAE Blast from the past. Outside influences remember? SACS said no outside influences? GAE is a statewide organization. There is no way that GAE would jeopardize Clayton’s accreditation by having their representatives involved and giving money to a school board campaign when SACS said one of the mandates is no outside influences.

Plus like you said, they are statewide. The head of GAE probably doesn’t care one bit about Clayton politics. I think his name is Noble, not sure, just remember someone with that name writing the AJC for GAE.

Whoever it is, there is no way they are going to ruin GAE’s reputation by directly violating a SACS mandate by trying to influence an election with money. And since Mary Baker admitted it, I seriously doubt that Chapman is with GAE. Seems like you’re the one with the lack of knowledge when it comes to GAE.

Go look it up. You are on the internet. Go google it. Take some initiative.

Anyway, it is a free country - individuals and groups can give money - within limits - to any candidate or cause they wish. That is not what SACS was talking about. SACS was talking about ‘undue influence’ - ie - Noreesse and MACE. The outside influence (undue influence) on the old BOE is that Noreese Haynes was an employee, the suppossed CEO - (under John’s thumb of course) - of MACE - therefore very much beholding to Trotter for his livelihood. You know, rent for a room and an apartment, and for food and fuel. But, he was a good reader of all the Trotter- written speeches he gave during BOE meetings. His every word, whether spoken or written, came from John.

You really should talk to a few people that have been around this situation longer than you. There is a long history of Trotter and what he would be willing to do to screw up Clayton Schools.

Trotter is all over the place on this blog. He is always looking to anonymously influence the public with his particular brand of b—-s—-. Michael King called for Thompson’s removal because Trotter told him too, because Trotter thinks that is what the public wants and he was hoping to win the public’s favor with the attempt. When I asked King, Garrett, and Anderson if they intended to revoke Thompson’s contract, none of them had anything to say about! Then a week later, King’s tune changed entirely. He had to run it by his “boss” first.

Unfortunately, for Mr. Trotter, his writing style is noticeable no matter what pen name he uses. He can only hope to influence new bloggers. The one thing that he doesn’t get is that if any new blogger stays here long enough, they will see right through him. It’s an uphill battle for him, at least here on the blog.

I don’t agree with all the inflammatory rhetoric I read here, but you can’t help but notice many of these mandates are written very, very, subjectively. Why is that?

How does one exactly determine what is an outside influence in a public school system? If SACS felt that the certain organizations were acting illegally or unethically, why didn’t they just come out and name them? Why not make it easier for the board to give SACS what they want by saying in order to regain accreditation Organization X and Organization Y are banned, and can’t have any contact with the board members? Then it would be real clear who the board can and cannot have associations with wouldn’t it?

And also, what is fully functioning mean exactly? What if some board member tries to get a coach fired, or a teacher fired, because they have it in for that person? Does that teacher or coach just get screwed now, because it has to all be hush hush, or they’ll say the board isn’t fully functioning?

What if someone uncovers some good old boy corruption like the land deal? Do they now have to sweep it under the rug, because if they bring it out in the open, they’ll get removed for not being part of a fully functioning board?

Did SACS write many of the mandates so subjectively, so they could keep it in their hands and not the board’s, to make sure that it was a done deal before 2009 was out? If it isn’t restored, isn’t it possible all the public’s anger might shift from the board to SACS and all these questions would come up about the way they wrote the mandates and everything else? I’m thinking SACS doesn’t want that. I’m not sure what SACS wants, but my guess is we won’t be talking about them by this time next year.

    Stop Worrying,

It’s because SACS isn’t going to tell a school system HOW they should do something. What they want us to do is demonstrate (as opposed to what Thompson thinks - show and tell by copying documents) that we have a process in place, follow it consistently, evaluate it, and adjust it as needed. Fully functioning means just that.

The mandate you mention, you only have part of it. It is actually “removing outside influences that are disruptive to the work of the school school district.” It’s easy to see that MACE was the root of this.

So if Georgia would stop giving the test to those who have no chance in college cirriculum - Georgia would sky rocket up the ranks. WOW! 7.2% unemployment. So much for the trickle down theory. Republicans have destroyed this econoy with their greed and imcompetence. It amazes me how the southern republican still clings to their views. The south is soooooo backwards. Republicans rewarded companies to close American factories and open up in India, Mexico and China. Now their economies are growing while ours suffer. Wall street corruption went unchecked for 8 years and while the WS CEO’s grew fat, the American middle class became the working poor. Remember the Clinton Administration saw record employment and a strong economy not to mention a record surplus.

Yeah and Democrats have done such an amazing job here in Clayton. We’re so proud it’s been in their hands! Thank you Democratic Party.

BTW, Clinton had no surplus. It was all smoke and mirrors. National Debt = Public Debt + Intergovernmental Holdings. He paid down the public debt by borrowing against our intergovernmental holdings. The economy was doing well due to the dot-com bubble and people were earning a lot of money and paying a lot into Social Security. Since Social Security had more money coming in than it had to pay in benefits to retired persons, all that extra money was immediately used to buy U.S. Government securities. The government was still running deficits, but since there was so much money coming from excess Social Security contributions there was no need to borrow more money directly from the public. As such, the public debt went down while intergovernmental holdings continued to skyrocket.

Do the research and see for yourself, go to the U.S. Treasury website and you’ll see in no year when Clinton was in office did the National debt go down nor did Clinton leave Bush with a surplus. And BTW, Clinton’s last budget proposal for FY2001, which ended in September 2001, generated a $133.29 billion deficit.

Democrats think they got it all figured out. This is why we need to be “purple”.

Republicans are better at runing local government. Look at EVERY county in GA….the ones that are ran well and can attract new residents all have republic leadership.

Both races have trash with in them, but AA have a greater percentage of rif rafs.

truthfully, slavery is a HUGE reason..why…because once slaves were free, they were uneducated and unable to obtain property etc. This cause generation after generations to be uneducated and POOR……most crimes are committed by the poor an uneducated.

HOWEVER…AA have had a lot of tiem and oportnuiny and resources to correct that cycle….its 2009 you can go to Harvard..you can own land…you can be a senator..a president etc……you have AA millionaires…so there are new blue prints to follow.

AA are tuining their own communites and will continue to do so until there is a strong social divide between those who want better and are willing to work for it and those who do not.

Sonna Singelton, Wole Ralph, Mike Edmondson and Bell need to go. So far Hambrick seems like another black power freak. I’m not surprised. The commission has undergone a change. Mr. Bell has been stripped of his power. Wade Starr will be appointed Interim director of policy. Question is, How does one go from Fleet manager to Policy Director? Is this another inside, back room deal? It does not pass the smell test. What were the qualifications for Mr. Starr’s promotion? Inquiring minds want to know!

After all is said and done, locally as well as nationally, we’re struggling against racism, class-ism, and human degradation. There are those that collogue to pogrom an identified ,minority majority controlled county, turning it into an economic-political helot camp, using the media they control, scheming and laboring to maintain bondsman while wagging their finger ,saying ah ha, the proof they’re not of our society!, as they lay their snares and traps, economically and politically.

They fill up your schools with illegal immigrants, and spend more of your tax dollars on their needs than they do your children needs. Do you remember the days of slavery? Our forefathers and mothers were made their slaves, they now import illegal’s, giving the jobs we’ve struggle to create, after struggling and suffering for better wages for mothers and fathers of the community.

We were misled in 08, by Clayton’s greedy whites and their Black gangster/flunky local officials. We’ll get the same results unless there’s a change=revolution! Your County Commission Chairman and Mike Glanton gave away your children accreditation as a part of political positioning, dealing with white folk and money.

If people on this board think getting accreditation back is going to do anything more than getting accreditation back, if you think it’s actually going to make the school system world class, you might want to check out the Get Schooled blog and see listen to what teachers are trying to say.

There’s a reason so many people in the system are focused on accreditation. It takes the focus off of what’s really happening in the schools. If that is, you let it.

TO THE HOOD FAMILY The employess of Clayton County government know what it feels like to be in the middle of political squander. We are being forced out of our jobs, harrassed, perscuted, talked to like children, and so much more. Some of us have done nothing wrong but to try and make an honest living to support our families. Your friends and supporters are doing the same thing to us that the Scott’s have done to your family. ASK THEM TO STOP!
