The conservative model is flawed. There is no such thing as smaller government nor less taxes. Case in point, The state of Georgia, Republican controlled and out of control. 25,000 lost jobs, highest foreclosure and the worst educational system in the nation.

Working families need relief now, not government handouts despite what you ignorant conservatives chose to believe. Let’s face it, taxes are a unpleasant fact of life. the government still needs to build roads, schools and pay for fire and police service. Not build up Iraq, Afghanistan and bail out greedy wall street ceo’s. The average middle class working person knows this thus the coming landslide victory for Obama.

To answer the questions posed by the previous poster on the previous blog topic. Yes, Republicans at one time were the more progressive party. Democrats were the ultra conservative party and thus blacks who had just won the right to vote leaned towards the Republican party. All that changed when the white citizens councils of the south abandoned the democratic party because of the compromise forced upon the democratic party by Fannie Lou Hamer and the Democratic Freedom Party in the early 60’s. As we all know the Citizens councils were segregationist who opposed the forced integration by the federal government. The culture of the Republican party changed at that instant. The Republican party became the party of white people and the label sticks to this day. The Republicans have really dug themselves into a hole because America is browning. in fact, the majority of Americans will be people of color in another 20 years. Whites will be the minority. With this shift comes huge changes in the business culture, political landscape and American values. The failure of the republicans to reach out and diversify will be their Achilles heel. Rejoice America! The spirit of the black ancestors are alive and well in this new generation of political activist/voters.

As a black person I don’t expect Obama to only work for the black community. After all we aren’t the only ones who elect him & although the AA community is in shambles there’s a lot more going on i.e. wars, the eocnomy, jobs, bank failures, etc.

Only ignorant black folk who probably aren’t voting any way will expect & assume Obama will be working to solve all their problems in office & while several places are preparing for riots only ignorant ones will do so if he loses - but I doubt that he will lose. Rich people are already cashing out, why do you think the DOW is down? Because the rich are selling.

Laughing at Marta Sux! It would do you well to understand the concept of Socialism/Marxism before repeating what you heard on Fox News to everyone over the internet.

The two competing ideologies are not capitalist and socialist. The two candidates favor a different approach to taxes: regressive taxes vs. progressive taxes. They are both capitalists.

Obama favors progressive taxes, which places a lesser burden on the poor. For instance, if you make 30K per year, you should pay a lesser tax than if you make $900,000 per year.

It’s highly unfair to tax the poor at almost the same rate as the rich. But that’s just my opinion. 30% of 25K is 7,500, leaving a person with just 17,500 to make ends meet each year.

That’s barely enough to pay health insurance and eat, even if that person is single. Even if the wealthier person paid more, let’s say 40% of $900,000, that’s $360,000 of 900,000, leaving him with $540,000 to get by on every year.

That’s plenty to get by on, even if you were supporting ten families. The tax break that Obama will give the middle class will give us just enough to pay for the rising cost of food, health care, and gas. It wouldn’t even be enough to put our kids through college.

His plan is far from Socialist or Marxist. Read up before you turn yourself into a Fox News soundbite. Marta Sux listen to your Black Daddy!!

To the uneducated - the tax code that you think causes you to be taxed when making 30k or even 40k with family of four. The tax code is actually set up for you to pay 15% or 10% or even less. With the better well off payiing 35 % to 39% - that is a progressive tax. And remember - the top 50% of the real taxpayers in this country already pay from 95% to 98% of taxes in this country.

It is such a shame to see black men on this blog posting such nonsense. I can see now why the majority of black women find themselves dragged down into the gutter vis-a-vis these worthless, crack smoking, con-artists.

Kimberly - do not throw the baby out with the bath water. Where do you draw the line? If something is offensive only for the blacks - or if also offensive for the whites. You could wind up with a dead blog taking out everything that anybody would take offense with. Blogs with obscenities should be removed. Offensive ideas should not.

There is a great difference between obscenity and free speech which may be offensive. Political correctness is not free speech and the users of this blog - understand and take advantage by voicing their opinions, some which offend. You know which bloggers you do not care to read - then skip over their comments - in much the same way as changing the channel on the TV or radio when something comes up you do not care to hear.

Beside if you have real facts and content to rebuke these bloggers - on either side of the issues, bring them forth and educate us all. Altho many of the posts lately have been from the way out fringes of altered reality - both the apparent hate speechers and the self-delusional “our ancestors were Pharoahs” crowd. There is room for real discourse in-between the haters, both black and white. I agree with you on this and definitely don’t want to eliminate free speech nor a healthy disagreement(s). My comment above is solely based on what I have seen on this blog during the past couple weeks and what readers have said to me about it in person. Some of the posts on here contribute nothing positive or even informative particularly in the past few weeks. It is only turning people off. Anybody who reads this blog regularly or even every now and then knows that I wouldn’t want to delete posts just because I don’t agree with the content.

Many already believe Clayton is the worst place ever, then to come here and read some of this stuff? I don’t know, just don’t want to lose those who really want to dialogue intelligently about Clayton or anything else for that matter, to get lost in the shuffle and end up with a dead blog filled with crazy stuff anyway.

Will NCLB changes improve grad rates? U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings announced a few changes to No Child Left Behind Tuesday in an attempt to improve graduation rates. All states will be required to use the same formula to track dropouts, transfers and graduation rates.

Now states use a hodgepodge of methods that make it difficult for the public to see how their state compares to others. Also, starting in with the 2012-13 school year states must meet graduation rate targets for subgroups of students — not just the overall population. This is similar to what is already required with test scores.

This change will spotlight many schools’ failures to graduate minority students and children with disabilities. Many state and national groups have long argued for the changes. But some are questioning why it’s taken the federal government so long.

A new president will be in office in a matter of months and it is likely that No Child Left Behind will undergo some changes, regardless of who wins. Also, researchers and civic groups have yelled for years that our graduation rates are too low. It seems as if almost every month a new study comes out about this problem.

Since we know graduation rates are already too low, what — if anything — can these NCLB changes do to improve it? Answer: By NCLB=The Mother of All Scams, The entire premise of this blog topic is in error. It’s not designed to improve graduation rates; it was designed to make Bush’s testing buddies rich and designed to make schools fail so that Bush could give vouchers to his buddies in the Christian Taliban.

Answer: NCLB has been under-funded by over 70 billion dollars since its enactment. Now, with these changes why should we believe that is going to happen? Just another yet sad page in the book of making the states keep up without adequate monies. Of course this is the same Republican administration that sent troops off to war without adequate equipment. What are we to expect?

Answer: I really don’t care to be continuously a pessimist but I’m afraid that while we may see some improvements in Graduation rates, we will notice few salient academic gains. What we will see MORE of is brand new special interest groups feasting on taxpayer dollars and putting their desires ahead of the children they are supposed to be helping. Like the crook in Clayton County, Georgia “Leaving 50,000 Children Behind without accreditation, over a republician white man and a dollar. Because the old board members wouldn’t give the County’s Republicans special interest groups etc., Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the like the children’s money.

I watched WSBTV on the interview with Kimbrough and Rainwater tonight. Now they are trying to make this a race thing. We know that most of the democrats are black. Good going Kem, we know you are black without putting it on your signs.

Rainwater never told Mr. Kimbrough his wife was black. I was there when they met at the toys for tots in December when they met and he saw she was black that was obvious. I am the one that told Rainwater that Kimbrough was there. We need to move forward with this race and keep the media out of it. They cut out and put in what they want of the interview just to have a interesting story. I guess that’s news!!!!

I’m voting for Kimbrough as Sheriff. I believe he has the background, leadership, and influence to make the changes we need at the Sheriff’s Office and the vision to take it where it needs to go. Victor Hill has ran that place into the ground and it’s going to take someone like Kimbrough to undo what’s there, create partnerships with other agencies, and to get it back on it’s feet again.

There should be a “none of the above” option in every race on the ballot. If “none of the above” wins a plurality of the vote, then, the other candidates should be prohibited from running for any office for a period of years, maybe life.

Maybe we could get some people to run who would be more interested in serving the public rather than their own special interest.

Shortly after qualifying, I heard Jack say that he couldn’t get enough signatures to run as an independent and that he is a “demopublican”. How do you think you could run the sheriff’s dept if you can not even figure out what party you belong to? I think it was smart for Kem to change his signage to separate him from you and let the voters know that he is the nominee for the democratic party. Thanks Jack for bringing the voters up to speed. It was kind of not smart for you to run on another ticket in a democratic county during a democratic presidential year. You can not stop the train…(by trying to pull the race card). as offensive as it may be it is Americana and it is true. Just as true as the lynchings, burning people alive, casterations, rape, terrorizing children, shootings, beheadings and more. Yes, it is unpleasant but it is American history. Do you know who Anni Murphy was? She was the black woman in Pulanski Tennessee who was raped by the white mayor and instead of being faced with the possibility of fathering a child, the townsfolk hung her from a tree and then slit her belly open, snatched out the unborn child, grabed the child by both feet and swung the child up against the tree crushing the skull and body. Yes, AmeriKKKA it is ugly but the legacy of those years continue today! Whites woner why blacks are standing in line for five and six hours in the snow in Detroit, Chicago and other places to cast a vote for Obama? Obama represents progress, change, hope and the faith that our children may have a better shot at success than we did! After all, Ain’t that the American dream? As an African-American I’ve reported your posts as offensive and would rather you didn’t post here anymore. You do not represent me nor other African-Americans I know. It’s sad that you have biggoted views and that you try to rationalize them to make yourself feel better. I do not know what your circumstances are but it’s obvious you are living in the past and have issues to resolve.

As an African-American, I am living the American dream. I have a great wife and family. I have served my country for 12 years in the military, own a successful business and live in a nice home. I have savings, investments, etc. that I am able to pass along to my family when it is time. My parents are still alive and still married. I do not have a criminal record nor does anyone in my family. America has treated me well and I have earned my Masters degree with its assistance. I am grateful that I live in America and not Somalia, Sudan, and a number of other countries. I would not want to live anywhere else. You call America disgraceful, I call it home and I will always defend it.

I in no way need Obama to do anything for me. My life is not dependant upon him or anyone else. It is up to me, just like my children’s accomplishments will be up to them. Any African-American worth their soul is indeed grateful for what our ancestors have sacrificed and done for us but God brought them here so that we can capitalize upon those sacrifies in a place where we have more opportunities than any other country. Their wish is not we gave you this, but rather take it, and make for yourself what you are willing to work for.

For you to suggest that Obama will provide a better opportunity for my children just because he is President and black only gives those in our culture a false sense of hope. It is deceitful and false. Obama isn’t going to change anything for us. We are.

I have served this country and I am glad to see the advancements made.
