Election Notes: New Sheriff In Town
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Many Clayton residents will finally get the new sheriff they have been coveting since the day Victor Hill took office, fired 27 sheriff’s employees, and began accumulating lawsuits costing taxpayers millions in legal fees and settlements.
“Specific duties of the Office of Sheriff today include: providing law enforcement and traffic safety services, operating the county jail, serving as an officer of the court and serving criminal warrants, subpoenas and civil papers,” according to the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
“Kem Kimbrough possesses the experience and has proven himself to be an even-handed, consensus-building leader—as a law enforcement officer, attorney, and active member of the Clayton community,” as per his website. “In his role as Chief of the Jail, Kem was primarily responsible for the creation and implementation of procedures governing the daily operations of the county jail. With more actual “command” experience than any other candidate—Kem is knowledgeable and understands the need to be responsive to ALL residents of the Clayton community.”
“When elected Sheriff I plan to return pride and professionalism to the Department through mature leadership and training as well as building trust within all Departments throughout the County,” says Jack Rainwater. “I will make myself available to the citizens of the county and make every effort to address their needs in a timely manner. I will work with all faith based organizations in an attempt to develop after school and summer programs for our youth. I can be reached at my cell number 404-438-3001. PLEASE VOTE ON NOVEMBER 4th, and remember you can vote for the candidate of your choice.”
Who will get your vote, and why?
Advance Voting begins this week (October 27-31 only) at various locations across the county from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.
