The Housing Authority of Clayton County is formulating a plan to bail out homeowners in arrears.
According to the Clayton News-Daily, we lead the metro Atlanta area in delinquent mortgages and foreclosures.
“Many people found themselves duped by predatory loans after the fact, and was then told they couldn’t do anything about it but pay up or lose their home,” says James Searcy, Chairperson of HACC’s Foreclosure Prevention Committee. “What the [HACC] plan would do is help restore home ownership for those working with our program.”
Clayton residents are already inquiring, and being advised to call back in about 30 days.
HACC’s self-funded plan is not to be confused with the recently approved American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act. H.R. 3221 will provide $4 billion in grants and loans to state and local governments to purchase, rehabilitate and resell, or rent out foreclosed homes, and offer tax credits to first time homebuyers. Another $180 million is earmarked for housing counseling and additional licensing for mortgage originators.
Although we resisted the temptation to buy above our means and take on a risky loan, under different circumstances we could need this help, and would welcome it. Plus there are other legitimate reasons people are getting foreclosed on, such as illness and jobs lost in this unstable economy.
“As we progress, the goal is to help rebuild pride in adversely affected neighborhoods which in turn would benefit the economy and reputation of our county,” added Searcy, who suggests contacting your lender and attempt to work out a payment plan, or consult a Realtor or credit counseling service for guidance until their plan is in place.

COUNTY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN
In the runoff for County Commission chairman, Lee Scott is attacking incumbent Eldrin Bell with the name-calling and innuendo that became his signature in his previous bids for public office. Scott offers voters little substance, which is why he avoids public forums that would expose him. He relies on inflammatory mailings and billboards to sell himself and disparage his opponent.
Venom and vitriol fuel Scott’s political machine. That combination has helped him propel several unqualified people to elected office, including his wife, Jewel, who is district attorney. Clayton voters ought to reclaim their county and derail Scott’s hate machine. They should stand by Bell. Because no Republican filed, the winner of the Democratic primary takes the seat.
DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Voters ought to oust District Attorney Jewel Scott, who was never qualified to hold her job in the first place. Instead, voters ought to support Juvenile Court Judge Tracy Graham-Lawson, whose legal experience is far more relevant to the challenge of getting criminals off Clayton’s streets.
When Clayton voters elected Scott four years ago, she brought no criminal trial experience to the job and has botched high-profile murder cases. A former prosecutor, Graham-Lawson’s been a juvenile judge for 13 years. In her 10 years as an assistant DA in Clayton, Graham-Lawson amassed an impressive conviction rate.
A Duke graduate, she was a police officer and firefighter before earning her law degree at the University of North Carolina. As a judge, she’s created a Second Chance Drug Court for high-risk offenders and established programs to keep kids out of jail and on the straight and narrow.
Voters ought to rebuff the efforts of Scott and her husband to consolidate their power in Clayton using racially charged politics and misrepresentations of their accomplishments. Because no Republican filed, the winner of the Democratic primary takes the seat.
SHERIFF
In the dictionary, Clayton Sheriff Victor Hill’s photo ought to appear alongside “deranged.” From posting snipers on the roof after he laid off 27 deputies to blatantly disregarding a federal court order, Hill has turned into more than a loose cannon. He’s a nuclear bomb in free fall.
Despite his bizarre and costly behavior, Hill won 49 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary in July. He’s in a runoff now with attorney Kem Kimbrough, who has experience as a major in the sheriff’s office and who can return sanity and stability to the Sheriff’s Department. Kimbrough is a graduate of Morehouse College and Emory University School of Law.
If voters want to avoid lawsuits, they ought to support Kimbrough. Hill’s become such a risk that Clayton County commissioners sought legal protection in May from future liability for his actions. Commissioners warned that Hill’s “objectionable actions, policies and practices concerning management of the county jail and sheriff’s office personnel negatively impact Clayton County’s reputation and endanger the citizens of Clayton County and the state of Georgia.”
After Hill violated a federal court order in 2006, the frustrated judge said, “This litigation is a disaster for Clayton County, for the sheriff of Clayton County and for the citizens.” U.S. District Judge Thomas Thrash went on to add, “I guess the public is the biggest loser.”
And the public will be the biggest loser again if Hill wins the Aug. 5 runoff. If voters want to stop losing lawsuits, their choice must be Kimbrough. The runoff winner faces Republican Jack Rainwater in November.

Joey, Thanks for your link to the comments by Mr. Dowell. As a Black Citizen of Clayton County Mr. Dowell has just encouraged me NOT to vote for him. Time is over for race-baiting. If he has no solid issues on which to stand, he reverts to the baiting. The Lee Scott tactics are obvious and old. Thanks Joey - Actually, Dowell has already lost. He only got a pitiful 8% of the vote and therefore did not make the cut for the run-off. He is now playing up to Lee and Jewel Scott for whatever it might be worth to him. The funny thing is that all this time, we thought his strings were being pulled by Trotter, but now the truth is revealed. A vote for Victor Hill, Jewel Scott, or Lee Scott is a vote for continued corruption in Clayton County. Please vote in the run-off on August 5th.

Graham-Lawson is a better candidate than Jewell Scott. Graham-Lawson is proven with over 25 years experience. Jewell Scott is nothing but an office manager who has never tried a criminal case. She’s botched multiple cases to let criminals back out on the street. Let’s not forget that her husband threatened to shoot a man just this month.
Kem Kimbrough is a better candidate than Victor Hill. Does anything really need to be said here? Hill’s doings are well publicized outside the Clayton County borders these days. His own employees don’t even support him.
As much as you’d like to believe, nothing about this has anything to do with color.

Mr dowell, John Askew is a way better candidate than you. I went to the first school board debate and I rank Askew and Baker as the top two candidates.
I thought you Mr Dowell sound very dishonest and self-serving. At the end of each debate I attended you would say vote experience not race, but now you blame race for losing. Not to mention two other blacks got more votes than you.

In the last few years, in order to sell more homes the lenders came up with all this slimmy ways to get people in homes that would not qualify for a regular mortgage. In better times, if the person did not pay, they could either come up with some more creative financing or foreclose on the home and sell it at a profit. Now they are paying for what they did. It reminds me of the assumable mortgages from the early 80’s

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX Atlanta) — Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker has asked Cobb County District Attorney Pat Head to investigate allegations of criminal wrongdoing against Clayton County District Attorney Jewel Scott, her husband , and her assistant.
The investigation stems from an alleged confrontation between the Scotts, district attorney employee Ernest Neismith and a supporter for another candidate for district attorney on July 14. Neither of the three would comment.
Jewel is up for re-election for Clayton County district attorney.

The politics are so messy in Clayton that I am moving. I’m going to withdraw all my equity using a line of credit and use it to let my wife to buy a house in her name. I bought a house within my income range. Yes,it is old and not what I wanted but it was what I could pay for. Now I am doing what is right making my payments and people who did not pay their bills are getting help. Maybe I need to stop paying my house notes. Attention 21st century America!! Upon reading the posts here over the last several months, I have come to the conclusion that there is a new racist in our country and it’s the black man. The posts referring to white man this; white man that - are immensely disgusting and discouraging. It becomes very difficult to read the continuing disparaging of my race and be optimistic as to the future of race relations in America. How refreshing it would be to see points made without reference to skin color. Alas, it is a weapon for many. I would support a mortgage bailout For people that have not “bought beyond their means” and for people that have been steadily employed for the last 5 yrs and just are having a streak of bad luck.
I have a neighbor that does not work at all unless you consider dealing drugs work and the thought of my taxes bailing him out when it could go to better use sickens me. A single mom working two jobs just to survive…I would gladly see my tax money pay her house off completely.

Judge Linda Cowen lists the sheriff’s unserved warrants as top problems in the county’s struggle to stop domestic violence.
“I’ve sat helplessly as the state has dismissed cases,” said the state court judge Monday night. “It distresses me when these cases get diverted. They should always be prosecuted, in my opinion.”
SO…… next time some thug that should already be in Jail invades your home and possibly hurts you or your children just say to yourself… “I probably deserve this for voting for Victor Hill and Jewell Scott.

I was born and graduated from school in Clayton County. I have seen it change. I am now afraid to go into the area where I used to live cause it’s so bad there. The only hope I can see is for all of us to get Victor Hill out of office and then hope that a change for the better will occur. I voted for him before but I see that I made a bad mistake. I want to see things improve so my children can grow up in the kind of community that I use to live in. Think before you vote and have a blessed day.

John ASkew is not a bad man. What he is and was - a bank executive with Wachovia - sent his kids to private school and until the last 2 weeks never attended any type of meeting that dealt with the Board of Education. Involvement in the school system has never been something on his radar. Must just be bored - counting his bank pension money and lonely for a project. The AJC even forgot to mention Mr Askew yesterday.

The forclosures are horrible in this county. If Kimbrough get in or Victor, I am moving. Kimbrough is a larger version of Victor. To be honest, no matter who gets thru the run off, we are in trouble.
If Victor does not make the run offs, he has vowed to screw this county but good (quoted). We have 5 more months of him and hold on HELL is coming from that little punk. Forclosures are going to be nothing, this county will be a ghost town.
Oh by the way, Rainwater is the most honest one I have found out in this race for sheriff. Have you noticed, you hear nothing bad about him. I truly believe that he will be good for this county. Instead of throwing race in the mix, you guys need to get real and see we need a good and for real person in that spot. So come November we need to think what will be best for this county.
I am truly sadden that this election has turned in to a racial, name calling, lying, dishonest mess. We aree steady going down hill and by voting for Kimbrough on Aug 5 will not save us. Victor has it in for this county because he thinks he is above the law.

Moving out of CC will not solve the problem, the blacks are here to stay and if it gets to $hitty for them they will follow you and it starts all over. The problem is they do not understand that work and pride will get them a better way of life, not trashing the whites. They have taken advantage of every situation to get what they want just by playing the race card. It sickens me that someone with a 6th grade education has jobs that should and always will be for whites. Just go to the courthouse, the banks, the schools, and any other government run businesses and you will see what I mean. You have to wait half a day at the SS office in order to get a new card because of the way they use our system. They all have someone on the inside that will give them what they want. The only people playing the race card on this site are Victor Hill, Lee & Jewel Scott, John Trotter, and Glenn Dowell. They use hatred and fear as a means to manipulate the black community. They tell people that only they can save you from white oppression, but that is a lie. They are only interested in serving themselves with the authority that they hope the community will give them. The only way to save yourself from oppression of any kind is education, open-mindedness, honesty, and mercy. Lynch and Herndon, again, while on duty and in plain clothes are using a county vehicle to place Victor Hill signs throughout the County. Lynch, seen driving the vehicle, has lost his license and driving privileges due to a DUI. Both may try to tell you or convince you that they are Law Enforcement if you approach them BUT neither is POST certified and as such, are civilians.
Sheriff Dept. car’s are parking within restricted campaign distance from early voting locations. This is a violation as his name prominently appears on the side of cars and is construed to be a political advertisement. Should you witness this, take a photo for posting and forward to the news agency’s and the State Office of Attorney General.
The Sheriffs Dept. helicopter was observed at 1530 Hours, 29 July 2008 do low altitude hovering along the Tara Corridor between Hwy 54 and Rt 138 prominently flashing it’s tail colors for drivers to observe the Victor Hill name. It would be interesting to see what emergency was called. A review of 911 dispatch would quickly show that there was no reason for this dangerous maneuver placing the public at risk. This was a ploy by the Dark Lord himself to flash his name to unwitting drivers, wasting the taxpayers dollars on fuel of the aircraft.

Ok People, try to follow me and get my point. I am a business flier. I fly five days a week to my destinations. One day, because I fly all the time, I decided I’m qualified to fly the damn plane. However, there are so many other variables in knowing how to Safely fly an airplane.
Mary Baker has attended many board meetings. Does this make her qualified to sit on the school board? What is her educational background? Her business experience? Her management style and so on? The CCBOE is half Billion dollar corporation. The board members we elect will be charged with property value rates. The decisions they will make will impact our community and business base for many years to come. Do we want someone who’s only listed qualification is that they attended meetings? NO! We need someone who has the analytical and deductive reasoning ability to FULLY understand the domino effect of their policy decisions and votes. John Askew is by far the better candidate to serve the citizens of Clayton County. Let’s not even mention the money Mary Baker has received from disgraced former Chairwoman Erica Davis. We have to ask ourselves, Why does Erica support Mary Baker? Follow the money! I’m sure Mary Baker is a nice person but we need integrity and accountability and necessary personality. Seems another lawsuit by Gary Neal Weddington, case number 108CV-2293 for 2, Million Dollars was filed on lil man for excessive force on a white Pastor from Fayette County. Can’t wait to watch the news on this one.
Okay, real quick! Here’s the story on this. This over sixty year old pastor was having some medical problems. He tried to drive himself to the hospital and became incoherent. He ended up in a ditch in our county. When C.C.P.D. arrived they thought he was intoxicated from drinking too much wine (because of the sweet smell coming from his persons). He was brought to jail and given a breathalizer test. He blew a zero. The P.D. officer had the medical department to draw blood so that a more accurate reading could be done. The poor old man was left in jail pending the results. (I know. I know. The officer was evidently not trained to recognize when an individual puts out certain smells it could be a medical issue. Seems he/she will be answering to the Chief.)
But, that’s not all. The medical department decided to put this old man in their section for review because he was still incoherent. After being in the medical section for a number of days he was moved to population beause the medical section needed his room. This poor old PASTOR was placed in the room with other younger inmates. Guess who showed up at his cell door the next morning. (Little man) Well this sixty year old pastor saw the other younger inmates jump up and face the wall. He stood up not knowing what was going on. Lil vic got real nasty with this old man and threaten to do all kinds of things to him. Mind you, this PASTOR is in shock. He stated that he needed to call his daughter to let her know where he was. Lil man and his spineless cronies used excessive force on this old man. There are pictures of all of his injuries and bruises. After this old man was beaten by them. He was sent to the hole. As soon as he got the hole he was called out to go to court. When he was put in front of the judge he was told by the judge that the he could go home because the blood test reading was negative for alcohol or illegal drugs. The judge asked him why didn’t he try to bond out on these charges before coming to court. This little old PASTOR said “I didn’t know what was going or why I was in jail. A nurse told me this morning what happened to me.” This little old PASTOR also told the judge that he was in great pain because the man in the suit and the officers hit him everywhere. The judge was confused from this little old man’s response and told his courtroom deputy to make sure he is allowed to call someone to come and pick him up.
Okay people If you want to make me mad. Mess with kids and old people.

I asked how the turnout was at the polls this morning - they said its better than in July & that perhaps people were “embarassed” I sure hope so!

I do not understand you people who say you’ll vote for Kimbrough now and Rainwater in Nov. I say Kimbrough ALL THE WAY. That is the feeling of those I know and, believe me, it’s been discussed a lot. He will be the most qualified sheriff we’ve ever had. Experience in the sheriff’s dept. and a law degree to boot. Think VERY hard now and in November and I believe you might vote for Kem both times.

Raja I too saw the signs in front of Divine Faith as I was coming in to work this morning. I am not sure if this is a Lee Scott guerrilla marketing tactic or what. It is especially puzzling because Lee Scott sued Pastor Battle back in 99/00 and Scott ended up loosing with a judgment against him for 250K.
Pastor Battle this doesn’t look good. I know Lee has been pimpin’ the church for years now. I hope you aren’t allowing him to pimp you.

I may be unpopular in saying this but I’m gonna say it anyway. I think Jewel knows she is in way over her head this time.
Hey Jewel, saw you crying in church a couple of Sundays back. That message really cut to the bone didn’t it. I think you want out but big Lee won’t let you out. I’ve seen you in the bank when Lee acts up and you are embarrassed by him. I saw you when he gave you that verbally abusive tongue lashing after you didn’t do well at an event. The venom that came from his mouth towards you was vicious!!! If I was a betting man I would say that you are experiencing some other abuse too. You see the path that Lee is taking you down don’t you. Get back to your real Jamaican roots of integrity, hard work and telling the truth. This is my personal opinion but do the honorable thing and drop out of the race. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.

First off, a degree does not mean your are qualified for any job. It means you have completed the studies. Being an attorney does not mean you can run a county. Working with the Sheriff Department and HAD to leave does not mean that he can run that department. I worked with Kimbrough and YES he HAD to leave not on his own either.
I have also worked with many people with degrees and guess what, the paople that worked for them are the ones that had the brains behind them. Also they talked a good game like they knew it all like Kimbrough does. Believe me. nothimg personal Kem but, you need to stick to being an attorney that takes peoples money because attorneys are VERY crooked just like Victor, also good liars.

John Stewart is correct. Imagine the feeling of the weight lifted from your shoulders and being able to breathe again. You don’t see it but others do. Lee dominates and controls you. He uses fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down and gain complete power over you. Lee is a domestic abuser. He does the same thing in the community so there is little doubt that what he does at home is much worse. There are more important things in this world that you need to give your full attention, time, and thoughts to than a political office. Do what is best for you. Be honorable and “Walk Good”. Walk away. You will be free again.

I heard Victor Hill is going to try to influence a Apartment Complex Called Noble Oaks over on Roy Huie Rd. in Riverdale in their Open House from 11am to 3pm.
As it appears that Victor Hill is trying to get more of the Uneducated Voters that has just moved into the county that does not know what he and Lee and Jewel Scott being doing for the past 4 yrs.

You may know something the rest of us don’t. If there are some negatives to Kimbrough, they’ll come out before the Nov. elections, I’m sure. I am aware that a lot of the people in county government were backing Watkins until he got knocked out. Right now, we’ve got to work on getting Victor out of office and then if Kem isn’t the right choice, we’ll go with Rainwater. At the moment, I’m certainly behind Kimbrough.

I call Divine Faith this morning about the signs , they said no one had permission to put the sign on the property. The secretary stated she came in on the side street so she didn’t see them.
The signs were far back on church property. She state they do not endose any candidate and would remove them. This afternoon I see they are gone.

I’ve been to that church before. They are good people there. I just couldn’t fathom them aligning themselves with the Scotts. I’m going by there this afternoon myself. I had planned to look for those signs. Thanks for calling them and informing them. Obviously, Lee Scott wanted Pastor Battle to get in some kind of trouble. He is just unscrupulous. If I were him, I wouldn’t have any hope at all of winning this run-off since he only got in because he came in 2nd. He did not even come close to Eldrin in the election.
