Can Clayton lure new businesses?
A few new businesses are trickling into Clayton County. At a time when much of the attention is focusing on problems in the school system, it’s refreshing to learn new jobs are being created. Read my latest blog entry on Wordpress

Election notes: Sheriff and consolidation
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
“Specific duties of the Office of Sheriff today include: providing law enforcement and traffic safety services, operating the county jail, serving as an officer of the court and serving criminal warrants, subpoenas and civil papers,” according to the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
Literally from day one, incumbent Victor Hill drew the ire of some and the adoration of others by firing 27 sheriff’s deputies, costing taxpayers millions in legal fees and settlements. Hill also closed massage parlors and formed several public safety programs.
“Each community would lie within a zone or district that would be served by a permanently-assigned Deputy,” explains Kem Kimbrough who plans to implement a “community-oriented policing” system“By serving warrants and other process consistently within that district, the Deputy would become familiar with areas where wanted persons are found and where other problems, such as vacant properties are located. Deputies would be required to share this information with homeowners and their local police so that the community has two separate, but overlapping, layers of service.”
Sherman Lemon’s six-step plan will: “Restore professionalism and confidence to the Sheriff’s Office; effectively administer its primary functions, responsibilities and duties; bridge the gap between law enforcement by maintaining strong relationships with all local, state and federal authorities; streamline and maximize the budget by being fiscally responsible; restore morale by treating all empl oyees with the utmost respect; and ensure all personnel are completely trained and equipped to carry out their duties and responsibilities.” “
It’s time to make a change,” says Jack Rainwater, who intends to “ get all county law enforcement agencies to work together in their efforts to fight crime, as well as making a dent in the 20,000 warrant backlog. We need a sheriff that cares about the county as well as the citizens, and does not feel taxpayers have deep pockets. [Hill’s] ego and management style has made it unbearable for the good employees of the sheriff’s department as evidenced by his unreasonable transfers and firings.”
Ernest Strozier’s priorities are: “To provide a secure jail, the safety of our communities, the efficient serving of criminal and civil warrants and cooperation with other public safety agencies and county commissioners. I will realign the jail administrative system, reduce costs and create workable programs to reduce repeat offenders. I will realign manpower to ensure that the backlog of criminal and civil warrants are served, which will improve community safety and put real criminals in jail.”
As per his website, Garland Watkins wants to “ mend the ties with other agencies and entities that the current Sheriff has severed or broken to make this county safer and more efficiently run for everyone.”
Consolidation is another hot topic on tomorrow’s ballot.
Hill pushed for consolidation via failed bills 1090 and 1589 during his term as house representative, and prior to being elected sheriff. Hill is the only candidate supporting this concept, and recently expressed his desire to consolidate ALL county municipal police departments into the sheriff’s office.

NO< NO A THOUSAND TIME NO. If “our good sheriff” can’t even keep up with serving the warrants he has now. having all the law enforcement agencies consolidated will just make the situation worse. Jut take care of the jail, serve the warrants and quit trying to build a dynasty for yourself. Oh and QUIT working against the other law enforcement offices. You are just hurting the county more.

I had a conversation with a Hill supporter this past Saturday. I could not believe there was really anyone (other than those with ties to the Scott gang) who would actually vote for him - but they did. They believe he has, “done alot fer us” but couldn’t give any specifics, and were not at all concerned about the millions he’s cost the taxpayers with all the lawsuits and settlements.
These folks were not members of his church or neighbors of his. They are old, Southern whites, retired, who’ve lived in a rural area of the county all their lives.
I am just flabbergasted and sick at my stomach to think there are others out there like them. If that demented dwarf is re-elected, there will be no stopping him.

I agree with everything that the above candidates has said. I know that only ONE of the candidates will come out tomorrow. Rainwater has ran Republican and is running unopposed. This means that if Victor gets out, He will be our only hope of stopping him.
Folks let’s make sure that we vote tomorrow to help our county. Victor has a lot of supporters believe it or not. If he comes out, we must throw our support behind Rainwater to stop him. Rainwater is not Republican as best I understand but, he knows the job, and I beleive he can get it done in a well and professional manner. We need to put our ego aside and think about our county instead of race or what party a candidate is runnig for. I know that all of the candidates are running to make a great change in this county. So please let us do the right thing and do it right this time. Good luck guys.

Claytonians,
We have 3 chances of re-taking the Sheriff’s Office and bringing dignity and accountability back. All that matters is that we all show up and vote for anybody but the incumbant. Let’s show him the door by showing up at the polls. Please make your choice and vote tomorrow!
Chance #1 Vote July 15th. Chance #2 Possible run-off election on August 5th Chance #3 LAST Chance! November 4th, vote Jack Rainwater
Three strikes and we’re out if we don’t get it right this time!!!

Every one is upset with Victor Hill. Why? Because he has brought change to Clayton County. Every one is scared of Lil VIC. I’m not old or white, but believe me I will be voting for himm July 15. People are upset because this little black man has come in and taken over. Most of the turmoil in Clayton County was created before him. It has become public since he was elected. I think jailers should face the wall when he walks down the hall, for that matter when anyone walks down the hall. They don’t deserve the utmost respect, after all, they didn’t respect the law enough to not to break it.

To JR and Tiffanie: Go ahead and dream. IF and I say IF the little munchkin gets re-elected, then you deserve what you get. More gangs, more crime, more expensive lawsuits, and a little ego-maniac whose only agneda is himself. You really aren’t very intelligent if you think he has your best interest at heart. It’s people like you two that are partly responsible for the reason the county has turned into a third world flea bag ghetto. And thas alls I gonna say bout dat.

Someone mentioned Jack Rainwater not being republican earlier.
Jack Rainwater is running on the republican ticket I believe because he did not have the financial backing to run on the democratic ticket or he couldn’t get enough signatures? Perhaps someone else can confirm that, but there was a reason he went republican.
At this point I say anybody but Victor Hill, just don’t want to see Jack Rainwater dismissed or ignored by voters because he’s on the republican ticket.

I’am sure most of you know me, I have lived in this county for 25years or more. I use to say that John Trotter destroyed our school system. I now realize that this is far from the truth; it was John who tried to help our Clayton County Schools for years. I didnt always agree with him.Now I know that the problems is with the ones left on the board. I feel sorry for John he worked so hard to get these people elected then they act as if they never knew his name.I now realize that this is normal among people of color. How could you turn your back on your friend when they have mess up their good name to help you I think they are sorrry for shame for shame; Now this School Board has hired a man to run the school system who have a past like an x and they gave him all power how stupid is that. We better be nice to John beacuse we might need him again. I know for a fact that he is not envolved with this year election just look at all the ugly signs, and for the bloggers that think I am John Trotter dont fool yourself, he dont write this bad.

WTF,
Jack Rainwater was trying to run as an Independent. In order to run in Clayton County on anything other than the corrupted Scott/Trotter/Hill/Thomas Democratic Parties in Clayton County you need to either be an Independent or a Republican. In order to be on the Independent Ballot you need a certain amount of signatures due to the fact that there is no independent party. The Democratic Party has controlled this county and made sure that the only way to run is as a democrat. The qualifying fees are the same whether you are democratic or republican. There is not a different fee for each party.

the one thing in his favor is the fact that he has so many people running against him spreading the votes out.

Where do you live Tiffanie? Under a rock? Are you deaf, dumb AND blind?
You don’t know about the millions he’s cost us taxpayers BEGINNING WITH HIS FIRST DAY IN OFFICE? You aren’t aware of the backlog of 17,000 criminal warrants that HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SERVING? What about refusing to allow POLICE OFFICERS to interrogate prisoners in the jail? I suppose that’s okay with you????
What did he do for you Tiffanie? Did he give you one of those used cell phones? Did he have an inmate scrub graffiti off your wall? Or was it his Happy Mother’s Day automated telephone call you received that made you fall in love with the demented dwarf?

If he would have just done his duties as a sheriff I might would have voted for him but his Ego got in the way and none of his duties got done… look at his record people. Plus his inability to get along with others totally shot himself in the foot. remember the passage in your bible “A house divided will soon fall”
personally i dont care if he is short, tall, fat, skinny, black, white or yellow. the fact is he is costing the taxpayers a lot of money and not serving warrants like he is suppose to be doing.

Maybe the BOC needs to raise our taxes so Victor Hill supporters can actually FEEL the pain of Victor Hill’s mistakes (i.e. LAWSUITS) and understand why his renegade brand of leadership is so harmful to this county.
Victor Hill needs to go not now but RIGHT NOW. If he gets reelected get ready to live in hell for another four years and if people vote “yes” for consolidation (perish that thought!), I’ll be the next one renting my house out section 8.

What positive change has Victor Hill brought to this county? Jailers facing the wall? That’s all you got?
SIX Candidates for Sheriff should tell you a lot. Take a very close look at the other candidates. What do you see? Why in this world would SIX candidates with extensive law enforcement experience run (many on the same Democratic ticket) for Clayton County Sheriff if something wasn’t so terribly wrong. What don’t you see?! It’s the same reason there are so many running for school board. There are deep problems within, it’s ineffective, and being mismanaged.

The reason Jack Rainwater went Republican is because he needed 6700 signatures in 3 mos and was short. The only way he was able to get on the ballot without splitting the vote anymore was to go Republican. It had nothing to do with finances. This is what I was told by his manager. We need to really think about things tomorrow. We need Victor out of office. !!!

Consolidation is probably a good idea, as far as saving money, efficiency, etc. But, NOT under Victor Hill. He has the audacity to bring up the subject of duplication of services, when he’s the one that started all the duplication in the first place. Remember folks. the CCPD has not been around all that long really. Many counties only have a sheriff’s department; it would save a lot of money. A main problem with a single law enforcement entity is having an elected official like Victor Hill in charge of it. It probably should be a merit position, appointed by the county commission.

The problem is that having six candidates is going to dilute the opposition vote rather dramatically. None of the other candidates has stood out as the strong leader of the bunch and seemed to garner a large mass of support from the community. Lately I’m seeing a lot of yard signs for Hill. Signs for the others like Kem and Garland are popping up more often, but just not enough.
I hope beyond hope that Hill gets booted, but I honestly don’t expect it will happen.

You’ve probably seen more signs for Victor Hill because the Sheriff’s Office is removing the signs of other candidates (especially other sheriff’s candidates) from the streets. If you notice, only Hill, Leslie Miller Terry & the Scotts signs are all over the place because they are all in cahoots together.
Published: Thursday, July 10, 2008 Sheriff accused of stealing signs
By Daniel Silliman
dsilliman@news-daily.com
A candidate for sheriff has filed a police report accusing the sheriff’s office of theft.
Ernest Strozier, who is one of five men challenging Sheriff Victor Hill in the upcoming election, contacted the Jonesboro Police department on Tuesday, reporting that a deputy and several work-release inmates stole a $250 sign.
“The sheriff is crazy,” Strozier said. “He thinks he’s above the law. He makes up the law as he goes. Hopefully, charges will be brought.”
Strozier said he had a four-foot by eight-foot sign at the BP gas station on the corner of Tara Boulevard and North Street, with the permission of the gas station owner. Strozier drove by on Tuesday, a week before the primary election, and saw the sign was gone. He stopped to ask the owner why, and was told a dark-colored pickup, with a deputy and a couple of inmates, removed the sign.
“A guy who was sitting there said, ‘The sheriff just took it away,’” Strozier said. “He asked the deputy why, and the deputy said, ‘Sheriff told us to take them.’”
Hill could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The Strozier campaign, which has spent an estimated $4,000 on political signs, was told the sign was at the sheriff’s impound lot, and was removed because it was too close to the road.
According to the police report, the BP owner was told the signs had to be more than 10 feet away from the road and the deputy said he was enforcing the county code.
The sheriff’s office does not have a code enforcement unit.
The county police department, which has a code enforcement unit, does a “sign sweep” every day, according to spokesman Tim Owens, removing signs which are too close to the right-of-way.
Witnesses, however, said the only signs being taken by the sheriff’s “code enforcement” detail were the ones promoting Hill’s challengers.
James Morgan, who works at the W.B. Casey Plant in Jonesboro, said he saw a deputy and two inmates removing campaign signs on Flint River Road.
Morgan said they took a number of signs promoting Kem Kimbrough, who’s on the July 15 ballot for sheriff.
“The inmate picked it up and he threw it in the pickup,” Morgan said. “He had big, tall signs and he a lot of little signs in there.”
Morgan said he’s met Hill, and supports a lot of what he’s done in the county, and he is considering voting to re-elect him, but he still thought taking signs was wrong.
“I just don’t think it’s fair,” he said. “Those people are paying for the signs. They have the right to put them out there just like everyone else.”
The Kimbrough campaign and the Garland Watkins campaign both reportedly have pictures of a sheriff’s vehicle loaded down with challengers’ seized signs.
Strozier said he’s heard from supporters that whole stretches of his signs were disappearing and being replaced by red-and-white, pro-consolidation signs.
The signs, saying “VOTE YES TO CONSOLIDATION,” cropped up this week. The signs urge support for the non-binding ballot measure proposing the abolishment of the Clayton County Police Department. The idea of consolidation, which would shift all county-wide-law enforcement to the sheriff’s office, has long been supported by Hill, and was put on the ballot by Kevin Thomas, head of the county Democratic party.
The question is incorrectly written, asking “should the county’s charter be amended,” even though county’s don’t have charters, and it’s non-binding, so it will have no actual effect.
Thomas said the question is a way for elected officials to hear from the public on an important and much-discussed question, though the only official who’s ever publicly talked about consolidation is Hill, who stands to benefit from the proposed move.
Some say the consolidation question is really a referendum, and a vote “yes” is a vote for giving Hill more power.
The five men challenging the sheriff — all opposed to consolidation — say the sheriff already has too much power.
For Strozier, having subordinates take signs is just another example of Hill’s alleged reckless disregard for everything except his own authority.
Strozier spent the afternoon building new signs and attempting to get the one sign returned.
“It’s tempting to just steal his signs,” Strozier said, “but I got too much integrity to resort to that sort of thing.”

I agree if you are saying that he has cost taxpayers millions of dollars with the potential to cost more.(unsettled lawsuits). He has a backlong of 20,000 warrants that haven’t even been issued (but he wants us to trust him with the police department). The man has no law enforcement experience. No morals. He got into office based on his race and the ignorance of people that voted for him.

A 12% Turnout?! This means 88% of you stayed at home! In the midst of all the turmoil in this county how can 88% of the voters stay at home? The run-offs will be even lighter. Thank god that most of the people who will vote will return to the polls. Lets face facts, African Americans don’t turn out for run-off elections so this fact should be good news for Tracy Lawson, Eldrin Bell and Gail Buckner. Victor is in trouble also! Kem Kembough should get enough of the crossover vote to propel him against Victor. The school board race pretty much shaped up as I thought it would. John Askew Mary Baker in the run-off. John should emerge from that one with the Lake Spivey crowd making the difference. Alieka outright winning, that was a no brainer and Ophelia Burroughs will emerge from hers. Linda Miller outright winning was a no brainer as well as Tasha Moseley. Voting population in Clayton County: 68% Black 22% White
But white turnout is around 78% of that 22% Black turnout is around 13%
So the outcomes are predictable.
P.S.
Inside man or whoever you are, why are you so offensive and negative? You can’t possibly be receiving your blessings in life. Find your inner humanity and pray away those demons that consume you and hold you back from success in life.

What happened to all that disgust you CLAIMED you had against the school board?
Now I see why Clayton County is in such a sorry state. To many sorry people have moved into the county and are screwing things up. If you don’t care about the county please leave and go back to Atlanta.

Master Mole,
Can you please find out how Victor Hill did it? There has to be something to this. He is not that popular, or is he? I truly wonder if he pulled inmates out and promised them incentives that if they voted for him and he got at least in a run-off that they might receive special treatment while in his four star facility. He might even let them look at him. Please find out all that you can so we can offset this in the run-off election.
Did Lee and Jewel Scott make promises also? They could have made some promises to some of these criminals incarcerated in Victor’s facilities. Something smells fishy here and I don’t think it’s the drought drying up the lakes.

Something does smell fishy. More people voted for the Sheriff’s race than any other race. Even the hotly contested School Board race. Here are the numbers.
Democrat Ballots only counted: DA- 25,870 Sheriff- 26,290 Chairman- 26,055 BOE- 16,462*
Now I do know that only 7 of the 9 seats were up for re-election on the BOE, but the numbers still don’t add up.
The cards casted in the 9th District BOE Ellenwood precint was 710, and the 1st District BOE only had a couple of thousand. With all those added, it still does not come close to what the Sheriff’s race was, and I personally do not see and did not see the Sheriff’s race being more important than the BOE race. It does make me wonder if there is not something funny going on here. He has the ability to gain more votes from the incarcerated. It just doesn’t add up. Sheriff over BOE? That is still less than 20,000.
WOW, Let’s not educate them, let’s just worry about who will be housing them!

By Idone Carring

You can’t blame Whitey for this one! Blame your stupid, ignorant selves. You had the chance to get rid of your problems, yet 88% of you decided you didn’t care. We’ll probably be hearing that 88% of you didn’t have a picture ID or something stupid like that. Fortunately, you have one more chance in the run-offs next month. If you don’t vote out the Scotts, Victor Hill, and the rest of the scum that is now in power and helped cause Clayton County to be a 4th world county then you deserve EVERYTHING you get. Maybe the commissioners will sell you out for a 7th and 8th runway for Hartsfield. Just pave over Riverdale, Jonesboro and Forest Park. Couldn’t be worse than it is now. Or you could bring the Olympics there and relocate the scum Atlanta sent there back inside the perimeter. Whatever… It’s just a dang shame.

The good ole boys are doing there best to stop us from keeping our sheriff in place who is for the people and not for the way things were done. Go Victor Hill, if it is a runoff they want then we will give it to them. Rainwater will turn us back over to the good ole boys. Be careful, we know who really is behind this candidate and Kimbrough’s party is not strong enough to even beat Rainwater. They know this and still believe that Kimbrough deserve a runoff. Story also involved a Developer who gave himslf up over a dirt deal to take the heat off others. Obviously you have no idea about the $$MILLIONS$$ he is costing the taxpayers of Clayton County because of legitimate lawsuits and settlements caused by his determination to take the law into his own hands. I guess you can read since you posted here. Go to the judicial website and read the lawsuits for yourself - not one came from an injured finger at the Target in New York.
Victurd (I like it too!) takes poor, ignorant, uneducated people like yourself, gives them a used cell phone and they think the Messiah has come at last!
The 51% - the MAJORITY - of us who can think for ourselves and see him for what he is (a small, small boy dressed up in a big suit) will throw our support behind Kem Kimbrough and we will have a real election in November - may the best man win. The apathetic, lazy, crooked, and uneducated citizens of Clayton County who failed to perform their civic duty yesterday will be resposible for destroying this county. I am also very excited and hopeful that my choice for Sheriff, District Attorney, and County Commissioner still have an opportunity to SAVE this county. Let all your friends in this county who claim to care about their community that they NEED to come out on AUGUST 5 for the runoff election.
If Victor, Jewel, Lee and their black MAFIA are allowed to take over this county, Clayton will sink to the 10th level of HELL. Clayton will become the Blackest Hole of the great State of Georgia. I say this metaphoricaly to those ignorant individuals that always think racially. Victor, Jewel, and Lee will make it obvious that anyone with a future in ignorance, corruption, cronisim, black marketiering, liability lawsuits, wastful government spending, juvenile delinquency, home invasion, breaking and entering, larceny, shoplifting, vandalisim, auto theft, DRUG dealing and pedaling, child NEGLECT/ABUSE, RAPE, and MURDER can find a accepting and welcoming environment in Clayton. Let us PRAY that this never comes to pass. Don’t let them turn Clayton into the DEVIL’S playground. I don’t want Clayton to end up like SODOM and GOMORRAH.

The list and shame grows. He transferred a single mother to the graveyard shift because she showed up under subpoena. He demoted many others because they did the same. Hill is a very poor excuse for a man, let alone as Sheriff and leader in this community. Kimbrough will be just as tough on criminals but Kimbrough will also allow those in the Sheriff’s Office to love their jobs again and remember the reasons why they are there in the first place. Hill has made everything miserable there for everyone. We need to attract good deputies to come to this county and keep them here, not make it so bad that they leave. Voters! You need to wake up and realize that it is our Deputies and others at the Sheriff’s Office that are making Victor Hill look good. It’s not him. He’s smoke and mirrors. We still need to be wary of the run-offs for the school board. Jessie Goree is still in the Trotter camp. Unfortunately, district 4 is out of luck. Milton Mack and Michael King are both with Trotter to my understanding.

Worried about “influence”? It’s Sid Chapman who got the email from the board chairman (posted online) saying “Sid, it’s time to field a new slate of candidates.”
It’s Sid Chapman who then doled out endorsements and $2500 cash in exchange for meetings with candidates to discuss “what role” Sid and GAE will have in making board policy.
It’s Sid Chapman who is doing all of this while earning years in the Teacher Retirement System by not teaching, but sitting in a union office wheeling and dealing.
Who’s the real “influence” Clayton needs to worry about?

Can’t remember all the candidates, but Mary Baker was one; and she said that it was discussed what role GAE should play in making policy.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Sid Chapman didn’t bring it up because he doesn’t want to wheel and deal.
Again you have to understand that the administrators who comprise the institutional rot of this “fatally flawed” system are members of GAE, including the GAE president and a member of GAE’s board of directors.
Yet SACS for all of its talk of “outside influences” has said nothing about this.
The public for all its self professed outrage over “outside influences” says nothing about this.
Maybe ClayCo needs to worry about the inside influence. You know, the one who is earning years in the Teachers’ Retirment System by not teaching, but by wheeling and dealing from his union office power base.

If Victor and Jewell are allowed to stay in for another term, this county will be beyond repair. Kem Kimbrough and Tracy Graham-Lawson are both intelligent and very well educated leaders. Still a Victor Supporter, It is well known why some transfer from CCPD to SO. Victor tells his new flunkies before they are hired on at the SO to apply at the CCPD were they will get a higher civil service pay grade than at the SO. He tells them once they get hired and complete training for them to transfer to the SO and he’ll be their best friend and under civil service rules they will retain higher pay. Victor gets new deputies that he doesn’t have to pay to have trained out of his budget and he gets new flunkies to steal signs, violate citizens civil rights, hide the drug seizure monies in special private unaudited bank accounts, rifle the vending machines in the jail…you get the picture.

The fact that the single mother testified for someone sueing the SO is why she was moved. She and 6 others. That is illegal retaliation! If she had lied, she would have gone to jail. The SO is in a mess. We need professional responsible leadership. Maybe the PD could run the SO. They could then serve their own warrrents and hire professioanl jail managers. Might save some money and things would get done. Finally, a new DA should be voted in who tries and wins cases and has an impeccable reputation.

You are right. Her shift change had nothing to do with her marital status. I applied to work for Vic once (breathing a sigh of relief on that call). Non-deputy employees are required to work 60/20 hour pay periods. They alternate morning and night shift every six months. The same Ericka Davis who directed Sid Chapman to “field a new slate of candidates”. The same Sid Chapman who gave money to Davis, and as she herself has admitted engaged in talks with Chapman about “what role” Sid and CCEA will have in making board policy.

John Stewart,
Get ready for show and prove (from the Clayton News Daily.)
In addition to the CCEA contribution, Baker received $150 from former Board of Education Chair Ericka Davis, and $101 from Clayton County Commissioner Michael Edmondson.
“I have known Ericka since she got on the board [in 2000],” Baker said. “We had a rough period there, but I do not blame Ericka for all that has happened on the board. She said she would like to make a contribution to my campaign and I graciously accepted.”
Straight out of the candidates mouth.
Might want to stop focusing on the “outside” influence and look at the inside influence. After all, it’s the GAE President and a member of the Board of Directors who are part of the administrative rot that RUNS this “fatally flawed” system.

John Stewart,
I am inclined to disagree with you that the “I Like John Askew” personna is Trotter. I might have at first believed it, knowing how much Dowell and Trotter resent her, and I am sure they would rather anyone win besides her win the district 6 seat at this point. However, Charles Davis is running against Jessie Goree in district 3. Jessie Goree has been Trotter-ized, and therefore he most assuredly would have plugged her and not her opponent. Of course, the accusation he makes against Mary Baker I have absolutely no knowledge of, but either way, please do not disregard John Askew because of a possibly fictitious comment made by one of his supporters.

Oh please,
Reasonable people can disagree at to what degree of “influence” Sid and Ericka might have with Mary Baker. But, at the very least as you said, it does not look good to be chummy with Davis; I don’t think it looks that good to be chummy with a union head who is earning years in the Teachers’ Retirement System by not teaching, but wheeling and dealing from a union power base. (Where’s John Stewart’s comment on that?)
Yes indeed there does seem to be a double standard in play: If Trotter had given funds to Mary Baker, endorsed her, and then met with her as to “what role” he would play, the John Stewarts of the world would be screaming from the rooftops.
But when Sid Chapman does it, John Stewart dismisses it as a Trotter plot, and even when irrefutable evidence is presented that it happened, he won’t acknowledge it.
How many MACE members are CCPS administrators, the ones who RUN the “fatally flawed system”? Answer: None
How many GAE members are CCPS administrators? The President of GAE, a member of the board of directors of GAE, and many, many, others.
“Outside” influence? I’m more worried about inside influence.

Mandingo Warrior -
Haven’t you used up all of your excuses for failure yet? The only people not true to their people in this county are those in leadership for personal gain and self interests who have no business being there. Which happen to be for the most part what color? And yes, I am a progressive african american male speaking my mind.
I’ve had it with people like you. Our culture always seems to self destruct and most just sit and wait for it to happen cause it usually does. You saw it recently with Jesse. You saw it with Reverend Wright. There are many others we’ve seen it. You’ve seen nothing yet. But I’m trying to not let that happen this election so I must speak up for what is right. It’s not the white man. We move to be with the white man. We move where the white man moves to be like him. To have what he has. As soon as we can, we move to the burbs. His communities are safe and prosperous. Black communities are not. Do you blame us? Many do not even know who their fathers are. Crime, test scores, gangs, drugs, etc. That’s not the white man. That’s us accepting it’s OK and not willing to change that level of acceptability.
The problem is us blacks who cannot stand to see other blacks succeed. We pull eachother down like crabs in a barrel. When one reaches the top, others pull him down trying to crawl over him. The other reaches the top and another holds on and pulls him down. Noone makes it. That’s exactly where you are, but at the bottom of it. Full of excuses, no vision, no hope, nowhere to go. I am past that. This election will change what we have and put those who deserve to be in office there. White or black. Any educated and concerned person in this county who wishes it to progress the other way knows it’s not Lee Scott, Jewel Scott, or Victor Hill who can do this. Getting rid of them also rids our government of those who support them (such as Griswell’s, etc.). Take care of their people? Hardly. They keep us down by promoting that we need to rely on them. The white man knows it and most blacks know it as well. So please stop the excuses of failure and help those from the black community who can later pull many others out and be part of the solution. The people of this county are smarter than “Mandingo Warrior”. But then again, its not hard to be.

A message to power to the people, mandingo warrior and others.
Malcom X once said, “By Any Means Necessary”. That statement was in regards to economic empowerment, gaining social standing and civil rights. The call to action is worthless without perseverance, sacrifice, focus, and ACTION. The dismal turnout among the voters in Clayton County is without excuse. If there was any necessary reason for us to vote, we missed our opportunity this past Tuesday Among black voters, the turnout was 12% of the 21% who took time out to vote. The black vote is close to 68% of the voting population. Whites comprise close to 21%. However, Whites turn out in higher numbers in off peak elections (A national trend). The “White slate” fully understood this phenomenon. They have studied it, dissected it and built their strategy around it and, it worked. The reason they were successful is because they banked on low voter turnout. If anyone with half a brain studied the past election numbers in the county and performed a simple precinct analysis, then the numbers would have clearly revealed there was no way for Michelle Thomas to beat Linda Miller in the clerk of court race. Unless something spectacular happened like the February 5th Presidential primary or the November general, the primary would be business as usual. The past four primaries had black voter turnout in the county at 11% to 17% countywide. This past Tuesday had black turnout at 12%. Black voters tracked right on target!
There is a cancer in the black community. Sure drugs, single parent homes, lack of education, are symptoms but the disease is the unwilling desire to unify and strategize for the good of the black community. Sure, we are like crabs in a bucket. As soon as one reaches the top, the ones on the bottom pull them back down. This is why idiots such as mandingo warrior, power to the people and the inside man chastise people such as Eldrin Bell, Bob Hartley and Demont Davis. They fail to understand that in order to compete on a level playing field one must fully understand the game and how can one understand the game if they chose not to play it? Call it apathy, lack of interest or whatever label you chose but 88% of the black voters made a conscious effort not to play the game this past Tuesday. 88% of black voters FACILITATED the “white slate’s win! Whites will win in the runoffs because the 12% of the blacks that did find time to do what their ancestors literally died for will in all likelihood fall to single digits. In fact, if my calculations are correct, expect to see a 7% turnout on August 5th among black voters in Clayton County. The “white Slate” will win by a margin of less than 4% countywide!
The science has been revealed to you. Now let’s look at the emotional factor. Ronald Reagan once posed this question to Jimmy Carter, “Are we better off than we were four years ago?” In Clayton County, I surmise the answer is an emphatic NO! Why? Because the 75% of the voters who chose to stay away from the polls let the very small minority in the county dictate who would enter into office. You see, When Victor Hill fired the Deputies on the first day in office, his political fate was sealed. When Lee Scott claimed Edmondson marched under the Confederate flag his political fate was sealed. When candidates aligned themselves with anyone too far to the left or right, their fate is sealed. This is not a Clayton County Phnom but a national one. The scientific question is why?
Progressive blacks will always be prosecuted and loathed by the blacks who like to claim white oppression and claim benefit by way of the victims’ syndrome. This personality defect is talked about in depth in Karon’s The Negro Personality. You see, it’s factual that the stagnant black will attempt to discredit and destroy the progressive ones. Why in the world would any black call Condalezza Rice a sell out? Why would any black call Colin Powell, Eldrin Bell, Oprah Winfry, Bob Johnson, Bob Hartley, Cathy Hughs, Demont Davis a sell out or Uncle Tom or outhouse Negro etc? Blacks of all socio-economic status should revel in their accomplishments. Can you imagine a Jew slandering Steven Spielberg or Alan Greenspan? I won’t happen. They understand that as the water rises, so do those in the collective boat. Now I interlaced local political up and comers with national ones of prominence to exaggerate a point. My point is this, those of you in this county who use race as your propellant need people who feel the white man are holding them down. You can’t inspire your supporters nor sell your brand of BS unless there is an oppressor and a victim. Case in point, Jesse Jackson’s entire reason for existence is threatened by Barrack Obama. Jesse needs racial division to stay reveal ant to his supporters. But Obama’s doctrin of self reliance and assimilation are contrary to Jesse’s personal motivations. Thus Jesse is relegated to calling Obama a N****. Self hate manifesting among the intelligentsia of black America. On the local level, the accomplishments of Eldrin Bell are overlooked and downplayed by those who need racial division to advance their “black vs. white” agenda. Bob Hartley had black, white, young, old, rich and poor marching with him. His coalition is as diverse as the Garden of Eden. The power of his coalition flexed its muscle this past Tuesday. His candidates won or are in the run-offs. Some like Mandingo Warrior and Power to the People are threatened by the progressive movement and accomplishments of blacks refusing the victim’s role. Power to the people should include all people working together to effect change that will benefit all people of all backgrounds. Unfortunately, most people chose not to flex their muscle on Election Day and this has been the pattern.
There is a new wave of black leadership that is emerging both on the national level and the local level. This new wave of black leadership understands that the politics of racial division harm the good of the whole. They understand that in 2008, racial separation is not as important as personal responsibility, collective unity or the communal mentality. There is no victim if there is no oppressor. The focus is on leveling the playing field so that all can compete equally. They focus on building general consensus for the betterment of the general public. They can care less of the color of your skin. They understand that even though we all came to America in separate boats, we are all in the same boat now. This “new” black consciences is a direct threat to the “old” victims mentality. In their quest to stay relevant, they need to insult, discredit, slander, destroy and maim the “new” black perspective. They don’t know why they do it. It is in their nature, for they are the crabs at the bottom of the bucket

Mr. Tibbs: FINALLY, someone who actually knows what the deal is. Would you consider running for public office? Until we rid the country of bad influences on our black youth things will not get better. Until we convince the parents to be parents things will not get better. Until we have positive roll models (NOT TI, fiddy cent, tupac, biggy smalls, snoop, and the rest of the thug gangstas)things will not get better. I wish I had the answer. Until Clayton County gets rid of the self serving politicians like the Scotts, Hills, etc. things will not get better.

I am shocked that AJC has not been sued by people whom he has lied about. Please do something to refuse to give this man a place to vent his lies. He has many screen names but when read it is easy to see which ones come straight from him. AJC step up and take control of your paper!!!!

I don’t think the community is that swift, Copy Kat. Mandigo probably did a good job in stirring up people to come out and vote even though everything he said is a load of horse sh*t. Oh wait, the people who didn’t vote probably won’t be affected by this because they don’t read anyway. Never mind.

I think mandigo warrior could also be Glen Dowell, if not JT. Your attitude is what cause urban decay in every black community. You come to rape the community for your own personal gain.
If anyone expose your dirt you call them a racists or uncle tom, when the problem is really you not them.

Mansa,
You must be here to try to put a spin on the reality of what happened. For you to say what you did in the above thread is extremely self degrading to your obvious brilliance. YOU MUST HAVE AN ANGENDA!! The bottom line of what you just stated is that there is NO white person good enough or better, that was running for office over any black person. You have got to be out of your ever loving mind. Linda Miller was more qualified and runs one of the best offices in the county. Michelle Thomas had no experience… Period!!!! Stop trying to make everything about color and make it about character. Was it not a greater man that stated, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” and “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”
What is so sad is that I believe more in Dr. King’s speech than you do, and I believe that is shame on you.

Mansa Musa - Your message is powerful and inspiring. You have slammed the “proverbial nail on the head” across the board. You gave me insight that I had not even considered (referring to Jackson’s remarks on Obama). In this day and age, it is not racism that will be the downfall of our way of life, but the victim mentality. People everywhere of all races suffer from this debilitating disease. Clayton residents, I urge you to set aside self-pity, rise above your stereotypes, break out of the box, and show the crooks that they can’t have it all if it takes away you and your family’s livelihood. Vote August 5th to free Clayton residents from their “political” bondage!
raja - Dowell or Trotter? What’s the difference? They both have the same agenda.
Billy Gerkin - Don’t be such a pessimist.

I so did not get that from Mansa’s message, R U 4 Real. It was so long, though, that I forgot that there was a point that I disagreed with. No, Michelle Thomas was not deserving of the position Linda Miller holds, and will continue to hold. But, you do have to admit that Mansa makes a very valid point about people staying trapped in the victim mentality, and race-baiters needing racism to continue so they can have a purpose. It made total sense to me.

I heard from a reliable source that was at the meeting Dr. Thompson had to review and provide input on the report that will be presented to SACS that, Dr. Val Lee was talking about H.B. 1302 and asked, “Sen. Davenport, you helped with the bill, too?” Sen. Davenport responded, “No! I didn’t!”
Hopefully, the 30 people in the room heard her comment.

Well, Tibbs and Mansa Musa seem to be making the same point to me. Mansa’s is just a little more eloquent and insightful. Or maybe it’s just Trotter again trying to befuddle me with his intellect.

I don’t know how one would figure out the racial makeup of those who voted on Tuesday - makes my head hurt to think about it. All I know is 51% of whoever voted want Victurd out, 59% want Jewel Scott out, and 77% do not want Lee Scott to be chairman of the BOC.
I have become more involved in this local election than I ever have before. I did my research on the candidates, and I am doing everything I can to support my choices in the runoff. Let’s put all the race and politics aside and do what we believe will be the best thing for Clayton County.
Round up as much support as you can for your candidate, donate to their campaign if you are able (I don’t think any of them were prepared for the additional expense of a runoff), request a sign for your yard (and guard it!), get the word out to everyone you know that they MUST vote on August 5th.
Most important - pray, pray, pray, for justice and integrity to return to Clayton County.

Oh Please,
I will step up and say that I was wrong. I did go back and read Mansa’s entire statement. The first time I did stop reading when I got to the part, “They have studied it, dissected it and built their strategy around it and, it worked. The reason they were successful is because they banked on low voter turnout.”
I was insulted on that part due to the fact that I do not conspire with my race, or any other race for that matter, nor do I know of anyone else that does. I truly look at the candidate’s qualifications and whom they are supported by. (Birds of Feather….)
I took the successfull part as meaning unworthy, but because we conspired we prevailed. In Linda Miller’s case, I saw her as being “Most Qualified,” in Mary Baker and John Askew’s case, I do not see that as being so. And before anyone starts screaming, I am not JT or Dowell.
But I will admit it, If that was not how Mansa meant it, then I was wrong and I apologize.

Well, Mansa’s point is somewhat biased leaning towards the African American community, but I have ties in both the black and white communities, and therefore can see his/her intent. I saw Mansa as making the point that if blacks are unhappy that a white candidate prevailed that they only have themselves to blame. I didn’t necessarily see that he/she was saying that Linda Miller was undeserving. Also, he continues to support this by elaborating a fundamental point that many African Americans are trapped in a victim mentality that would have in fact been shattered if they stood up for themselves and exercised their right to vote. People like what is comfortable and familiar. It is comfortable and familiar to say that white people keep them oppressed by pushing their political leaders. I believe that what Mansa was trying to say (please correct me if I’m wrong, Mansa) is that the only people who have the power to seat particular politicians are those that take the time to vote, and since ALL American citizens have the right to vote, they too share in that same power.
The statement that most deterred you, as far as conspiracy goes, I felt referred to those with political agendas like the Scotts and Trotter.
I could be wrong, but that is my take on Mansa Musa’s statement.

You Got It!
James Carvill, Karl Rove are Political Scientist. When I say studied it, I’m refering to voting trends, precinct trends, racial makeup, income & education levels etc, etc, etc. These are all relative factors that the Political scientist must consider to select the probable outcome. There is much more to elections than people going into the polls and selecting a candidate. Linda Miller is very qualified and deserves to be re-elected. The point is that some blacks want to call out those who ATTEMPT to inspire voters to turn out black & white and as a reult are labeled Uncle Toms & sell outs. Did you know that if a black child ATTEMPTS to excell in school he is chastised by his fellow black students for acting white! When white children speak with broken english he is talking black. To the progressive black, there is somthing wrong with that picture. Demont Davis, Bob Hartley, Eldrin Bell, Obama and many others suffer from the same chastisment from their own people.

At least she told the truth - she DID NOT help with this bill. Sen. Davenport had little to do with H.B. 1302, which sets up an Ethics Commission to oversee the School board. She fought against it - probably because of her ties with the Bad political element in Clayton - you know - JT and LS and even Jesse and the Rainbow. And probably thought the same idea of ethics would spread to all political offices. She was the lone hold-out, delaying it as long as she could. She was dragged, kicking and screaming to the last possible moment before she finally decided to support it. Davenport probably figured it to be political suicide not to do so. Hopefully - the voters will see her for what she is - a self-serving political flunky. If, as she has stated - the children are the most important - why did she fight against the parents and students best well-being on this very important issue?

Also, she has not received $$$ from Lee Scott et al. Buckner attends school board, church, and community events, community forums, educational events, C4/C3 meetings….etc.
Buckner is involved in Clayton County. When was the last time you saw Davenport at a non-election year meeting? LOL!!!

Black Rain is right about Sen. Davenport and bill HB1302. Rep Salaam of 74 did not even sign the bill, then went to the Governor Perdue to ask him not to sign HB1302 because it gave to much power to forces outside of Clayton County, but she says she cares about the kids, seem likes she cares more about keeping power she does not have. Rep. Salaam could not even get the BOE to listen to her, then she acted a fool on national TV, and she still got re-elected!!

Is it me? I can’t believe all the homeowners, business owners, parents of children in Clayco public schools stayed home on election day. We have school board candidates that won school board districts that have no business even qualifying for an elected position. Does anyone research the candidates they are electing? Candidate Ed Rigdon and C. Denese Sampson were clearly the more knowledgeable candidates and they lost. Mr. Baker doesn’t even know where the state capital is and he won without a runoff. Lee and Jewel Scott in a runoff??? WTF —— CLAYCO WAKE UP!

To Mansa Musa and Tibbs.
I hope I can articulate my thoughts clearly, but I want to thank you as one African American to another for articulating what many of us in Clayton believe and live out.
Its high time that we dead the victim mentality that so pervades our community. The sad part is that the majority of AA’s don’t see that they are getting pimped and put on the stroll by many of our so called “leaders”.
In the illustrious words of Dap Dunlap from School Daze I say this to AA’s all over these United States…….
**WAKE UPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**I would love to talk to you all further on how culture plays a part in this victim mentality. When I speak of culture I am talking about blacks from other countries ie; The Caribbean, Africa, etc that don’t hold to the same victim mindset.
Let me know if that is something you are interested in.

dotell - I agree with you that Sampson and Rigdon were the better candidates for the school board, but Anderson and Garrett are both upstanding professionals who should do a very good job as well. Unfortunately, there were those who set out to sabotage Ms. Sampson early on by attacking her with the talk of a bounced check. I mean, come on. Who has never bounced a check? I have to say it, one individual I know for a fact was among the Mary Baker camp. I’m not sure exactly how close this person was to Mary Baker, but I heard her at the first forum moving through the crowd singing the praises of Mary Baker one minute and trashing Denese Sampson’s abilities with finances the next.
Unfortunately, Ed Rigdon was his own undoing. As incredibly intelligent and experienced as he is, he came up short with his speaking presence. He just isn’t cut out for politics.

Some misguided enthusiastic supporters can make mistakes in judgement. I am sure the Baker campaign had their hands full dealing with Dr. D, to even give a hoot about what was happening in District 7. All-in-all, after David Ashe was gone, Sampson was the best choice.

It’s like a White Cop killing an 11 yr old boy in West Memphis carrying nothing but a paper with now and later in it. It’s like Whites Cops killing a 22 yr old Black newlywed at his bachalors party in a hell of 50 bullets, 22yr old was unarmed.

I have learnt that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed.”There are two ways of exerting one’s strength: one is pushing down, the other is pulling up.” “The world cares very little about what a man or woman knows; it is what a man or woman is able to do that counts.” “One man cannot hold another man down in the ditch without remaining down in the ditch with him.” It’s like Sonny want to pack GUNS everywhere, even the an International Airport. Most of the readers of this blog know that the poster that uses the list of African monikers is none other than our old friend and reprobate, John Trotter. He has spent many years trying to convince black candidates and voters – he was their Great White Hope. Using racial rhetoric and imagery – he led a number of befuddled people into public office. Lee Scott follows that same drummer.
The voters of Clayton do understand that their futures are in their own hands, not in Trotter’s and not Scott’s. Vote on Aug 5 to rid our community of the followers of these 2 charletans. NO to Lee Scott , Victor Hill , Ms. Davenport, Ms. Goree and Mr. Mack.
