Yay or Nay to School Uniforms?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Many students will be required to wear uniforms at several Clayton County elementary and middle schools beginning in August, thanks to a survey filled out by parents of children in those respective schools.
Dress codes are a subtle way to prepare our children for the real world where they must dress for success, a mindset that seems lost on some these days.
“According to studies across the nation, uniform dress codes lessen emphasis on fashion, reduce the financial burden on families, and promote learning, school pride, and peer acceptance,” says Clayton County Public Schools spokesman Charles White via press release.
Every school I ever attended enforced a dress code, the most stringent being my catholic high school. Although there were days I despised that uniform, some days what to wear was one less worry. Further, the unified dress leveled the playing field between the alleged haves and have nots as far as clothing went.
Some deem uniforms unaffordable. But are they any more or less expensive than the designer duds most kids wear to school nowadays? As far as freedom of expression, I can only reiterate the old adage that the clothes do not make the man (or woman).
Hopefully this policy will eventually be implemented in our high schools, where it is probably needed most. If some high school students I’ve seen are any indication, the dress code adopted under former superintendent Barbara Pulliam is not being enforced. However, parents who buy the clothes and allow their child to leave home wearing certain attire are most responsible.
What are your thoughts on school uniforms? Should all students be forced to wear uniforms, or should CCPS just enforce the dress code already in place?

This is a total red herring designed by Thompson and company to make you think they are seriously addressing discipline. And the more the “pros and cons” are discussed, the more the gullible public plays right into Thompson’s hands as it diverts attention from the real problem. Lack of administrative support for teachers in matters of discipline.
When we empower teachers to remove severe and chronic disrupters from the classroom, and administrators develop the backbone to enforce those consequences consistently then, and only then, will we have a real discipline policy, not the dog and pony show of uniforms “dressed up” as a discipline policy.

So, when will the DAD’s mentoring program be back? When will the remaining 3 members of the original school board resign? Will Thompson take the money and run (per his contract) if Clayton loses its accrediation?
That’s what I want to know. ‘Whatevea’ to the school uniform policy until they realisticly address the discipline problem. Thompson will have egg on his face if the schools lose their accrediation. All dressed up (in uniform) and no place to go. LOL!

To JDR in the AJC article that Mr. John Hollis wrote a direct quote “that the Supreme Court stated that church and state should be separate” never mind that we just celebrated the fourth of July Independence Day freedom to choose any religion in the United States. So never mind that we have educated adult teachers conducting prayer in school regardless what religion the student practices at home with their parents. What happen to church and state being separate? As for Mary Barker, she as proven can be bought for the right price (CCEA). In Clayton County, we need someone that can stand up on their own merits. We need someone who has a proven track record not only in education but from a business stand point as well. Who has 20+ years in the education field and can be a leader not a follower. ON July 15 vote for Dr. Glenn Dowell “Lets get it right this time”

Uniforms are just ONE piece of an effective discipline program we need in clayon county. It is NOT the answer but is a step in the right direction. It will help combat gang dress but we need it in all grades up through high school. Not just 6th grade in most.
If discipline isn’t addressed like it needs to be, behavior problems will continue. The only difference is that they will be dressed better when doing it.

Attn: Clayton Parents - Actually, the school board has been trying to enforce this school uniform policy since 2006. They took a survey from the parents about how they felt about a school uniform policy back when Duncan was the ringmaster of your “dog-and-pony show”. I voted against it at the time, but since now I have no choice in the matter, I’m just kind of waiting to see if my opinion will change.

I believe, as a retired Middle School teacher it is a big step in leveling the playing field and teaching about appropriate dress. I also hope it might instill school pride as it does in other parts of the country. I think all public school k-12 should be in uniforms. Yes other things need to also happen, but at this time even small steps are useful. Mary Baker has been endorsed by the AJC so I will continue in my thinking, after meeting her on more than one occasion, that she is the one for the job. By the way there is NOTHING wrong with CCEA. All teachersshould belong to PROFESSIONAL organizations. GAE fights for teachers at the state level.

I love the idea of uniforms. It’s unfortunate that this will not be enforced at the high schools as well. It will take a burden off of the parents and also the children, even though they may not realize it. For those who believe that it would be too expensive, that’s nonsense. Even if parents purchased a uniform for each day, it would certainly be less expensive than buying all of the flashy, trendy, seasonal, expensive clothing and shoes that kids NEED to fit in at school. We’ve got to start someplace and uniforms are a good start. Let’s get back on track. Way to go, Clayton County!

Concerned Oldtimer is right. GAE does fight, at least to a certain degree, for teachers at the state level. They just don’t fight for them, or protect them from abuses from administrators, at the local level.
But how can CCEA possibly advocate for the teacher in those instances, when the administrators up the ladder are members of GAE, including the President of GAE?

Now to be sure, uniforms certainly won’t hurt; unless the public allows themselves to be appeased by this (which is my fear) and doesn’t continually remind Thompson and crew that this is, as “Tiny” said only ONE step, and NOT “the answer.”
But if you think uniforms are going to magically transform those wearing them into paragons of virtue; well just look at Victor Hill.

I think wearing uniforms would be good for unity of the school. The students would look good and the school would look good as a whole. However, wearing uniforms will not improve students' behavior or academic achievement (previous experiences). If they decide to go with it, wearing uinforms can only work for such a large district 1)there are vouchers to help the less elite students 2)stores should have been informed so that they would have enough to accommodate so many students for a reasonable price (can be expensive) 3)parents should have been informed in the middle of the year. I feel that a district shouldn't be allowed to mandate wearing uniforms and not give parents enough time to purchase them. These days, people are trying to put food on the table and put gas in their cars (prices has increased tremendously). Everybody is not buying clothes like they use to three years ago. They just can't avoid it. Parents can barely buy the basics (pencils and paper). Teachers are providing these basics on their once a month salary which is so unfair. Then teachers would have to help purchase uniforms, too!I think the county should be focus on their accreditation. Then, enforce wearing uniforms next year. Why look good with appearance, but looking bad because you are in the news about loosing your accreditation. Then loose your teacher because no one wants to teach in an unaccredited county. Right now wearing uniforms shouldn’t be the top priority because it will not work if it is not planned well.

When Dowell has appeared on the blog he has done what Tracy Graham Lawson and other competent candidates have done and that is to use their own name. Get over it!! Dowell will win or face a runnoff. You can tell all the lies you want to on this blog.
I learned something about him the other day from a police officer. During the reign of the Infamous Ronnie Clackum, former chief of police for Clayton County, the **N word was regularly used even in the presence of black officers.
Dowell worked with the officers in filing suits against the County and one of the officers is a Assistant Chief and the other is the Chief. You go figure Your lies about his affiliation with Trotter and some Victor Hill are just that: Lies!! Get a Life Buddy or whatever you are.

I do know for a fact that Dowell is associated with Trotter, and that Trotter has done things to make certain the district 6 seat is available. Get your facts straight - Only Trotter could, at this point, know my real name because you asked your friend who had been e-mailing him. I feel sorry for him. He has some sort of “love-hate” issues where you are concerned, but before he stopped communicating with me, he did confirm that you and Dowell have communicated frequently. The rest is just connecting the dots.
Dot one - Dowell has worked with and communicated with John Trotter for a long time.
Dot two - John Trotter (as himself) came on this blog rambling his usual garbage, and in the midst of it all, accused Eddie White of having an affair with Gloria Duncan. Trotter is the only person to ever make this accusation, and it was meant to start an ugly barrage of rumors to discredit Eddie White.
Dot three - Eddie White resigns his district 6 seat to protect his family and reputation from the undeserved assaults by John Trotter.
Dot four - Dr. Glenn Dowell (who has worked closely with and communicated with John Trotter for a long time) submits his name for candidacy of district 6.
My facts are straight and your attempts to destroy the Clayton county school system are pathetic. You depend on the public’s ignorance of you to acquire the power you desire.

I think uniforms are a step in the right direction. My eldest daughter was sent to a private school that required uniforms and it saved me a ton on school clothes. That is not to say kids will not figure out to personalize the uniforms in little ways, but the big distraction are just not there.

The pros of school uniforms are enough to be for it. But, as stated several times, it’s only a first step and real discipline needs to be forthcoming. From the super to the school board to the principals, they have to back the teachers and be stake-holders in enforcement. And, once again in Kim’s blog, here’s another opportunity to talk bad about the Scotts and Walking Small V. Hill. You people are ridiculous.

June 20, 2008 6:17 PM | Link to this
To anonymously anonymous, aka a nobody probably in real life and similar bloggers who have linked me to Trotter and others;
Get your facts straight:
Be a man or woman and go to my website voteforglenndowell.com and make me out of liar in terms of who the best candidate is for District six;
The only arsenal that you detractors have is an alleged relationship that I have with John Trotter. You advance this asinine premise because your candidates “(puppets)” will lose the 6th district election;
Your ranting and raving against any qualified candidate in favor of your intellectually immature candidates is transparent-you are not interested in any qualified candidate, you are interested in a board member that has undergone a frontal lobodomy. I am not the one;
You are right in one sense. Candidates this time will not be elected entirely on endorsements. This includes the endorsements done by CCEA or more correctly, by Sid Chapman. In that I went through the interview process with CCE and the Board of Realtors, I can say without any equivocation that Sid Chapma is no less a danger to Clayton County Schools than Trotte. Sid Chapman knows full well that I would not allow “any” entity, CCEA or MACE to unduly influence the Board of Education when I am elected;
With respect to my receiving money as a vendor to the school system, I am a “Federal No Child Left Behind Provider”. I can operate in many counties as a vendor. If it is determined that I should stop being a vendor when I am elected, I will desist being a Clayton County provider. If you want evidence concerning my credentials in this area, go to my website to see what other counties say about my services in the area of education “(YOU ARE AFRAID-YOU WOULD MUST RATHER REST ON YOUR LIES IN THIS BLOG;”
I am also not a lobbyist. I was a consultant to “Community Education Partners (CEP)” In terms of the choices for the best alternative school program for Clayton County when this program bid for services last year, CEP was the best program. The one that was recommended over CEP had major flaws. “Liar”, if CEP comes up when I am elected, I will recuse myself from any deliberations relating to their being a future vendor; and
Your lying has no conscience. You have even accused me in this blog of embezzlement of monies from the Rainbow House. You “LIAR”. I have never worked for the Rainbow House. It was a woman who stole more than $500,000 from that agency. It was reported in the county’s local paper. The Executive Director, “Phil Koins” was unscathed;
“You Liar”. You even referenced a biased article written by a Clayton News Daily reporter concerning my former financial costing my agency nearly a quarter of a million dollars in an attempt to cast dispersions on my reputation. The fact of the matter is that even the publisher of that paper admitted that the reporter may have gone too far in his reporting the incident. The problem was with the former financial officer-“you liar.” If I had misappropiated any money I would be in jail. You are such a “liar” that “you”, faced with the truth will continue to lie.
I truly feel sorry for you. The only existence you have is adopting another identify because in real life you are truly “nobody.”
“YOU CAN BE SAVED-TELL THE TRUTH- YOU LIAR”. BY THE WAY, I DO NOT GIVE A HECK IF YOU OR SIMILAR DISPOSED BLOGGERS VOTE FOR ME AS THE 6TH DISTRICT CANDIDATE. “GET A LIFE”

And this was my response:
Dr. Dowell, you are correct in that I do not have any first-hand information of improprieties on your part concerning Rainbow House, or any other enterprise. I do apologize for impugning your reputation with my remarks. However, I do have first-hand knowledge of your relationship with John Trotter, and your regular communications with him. I also have first-hand knowledge that John Trotter has abused this blog to create a malicious rumor against Eddie White, then influenced a current board member, Michelle Strong, to ensure that Mr. White had knowledge of his assault. As a result of this action, Mr. White resigned his position leaving the 6th district seat open. Which district seat of the BOE are you running for again? I find this all a little too convenient. How soon after taking office will you be repaying your good friend, Trotter, for helping you acquire your new position?
Sir, your ego alone is more than enough for me to speak out against your election. Citizens of this county are frankly quite tired of politicians behaving as if they are better than the nobodies that they are supposed to be serving. Most of the people in this county are just like me. You don’t know our names or our faces. We get up each day and go to work, pay our taxes, and send our children to public school hoping that the public servants charged with their education has their best interests at heart. Sir, I am sure you have helped many with your empowerment program and I will not deny that you have excellent qualifications. But, it is integrity that is most important to the citizens of this county when choosing our public officials, closely followed by qualifications. You are NOT the best candidate for the district 6 seat on the BOE.

I went to a military school for two years because I was a nerdy kid who actually asked my parents to send me to a school with uniforms so I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping up with the Joneses so to speak. Like Kimberly I had days where I was sorry I asked, but overall it was one less thing to think about with all the other pressures of fitting in at high school. and my Mom still thanks me occassionally for saving her a ton of money on school clothes.
Will uniforms solve all of CCPS problems? Absolutely not. First and foremost we need to get those remnant board members the hell OUT of office. We have a lot of problems to solve in CCPS but uniforms are definitely a step in the right direction.
and don’t give credit to the BOE nor Thompson for this decision. This has been in the works for YEARS, it just happened when Thompson took over, they had nothing to do with it unless they voted for it as parents like all the other parents, so don’t believe the hype.

About half of the replies on this blog are not about the article at all. You should be ashamed to waste this space on the same people over and over. The response should be about uniforms in the CC schools. Yes, I believe the uniforms are a wonderful plan. I hope in the near future to see the high schools be required to wear uniforms also.

Uniforms My child goes to a private middle school where uniforms are required (both dress and casual). Uniforms are an absolute GODSEND! They are far more affordable than people think. At this age, kids want to fit in more than anything - that’s why they are brand-name crazy. Uniforms do more for kids than anyone realizes. However as many have pointed out already, they will do very little to solve the discipline problem. As long as there are parents who are not parenting and schools that allow it, we will have discipline problems in our schools.
DOWELL I agree with other bloggers who say that Dowell has a great deal of experience in education. BUT - I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it over and over and over:
Anyone who believes that Victor Hill will go down in history as Clayton County’s greatest public service, needs to be sent away to a place where people can talk to trees. He DOES NOT belong on a school board making decisions about the future of our children. Go to his website to see for yourself what he has to say about our Demented Dwarf Sheriff Walking Small.

Concerned Clayton Citizen - I apologize to you and the other bloggers. I promise to ignore Trotter and Dowell from now on.
I already made the statement that I did not support the uniform initiative at first. Of course, I do see some potential benefits to the policy. It should however have been enforced through out the school system. It is at the high school level where dress code infractions and behaviorial issues most commonly occur. Does anyone know why this was not enforced at the high school level? I was not aware of that fact until reading Miss Kimberly’s article.

I felt it necessary to ask you to know what you are speaking of before you speak. I am not here to defend Glenn Dowell or anyone else, but when I see wrong, I call it out and I apologize to no one for it. You state that, “John and Glenn Talked and Worked together for a long time.” He#% girl, I’ve talked to John Trotter before and worked with him on a couple of issues, but I am not in his camp. I personally can not stand the man. (I believe that he is responsible for the majority of the problems with our school board.) But in some business areas and in relations to volunteering and going to board meetings, of course there are opportunities for Glenn and John to speak and or to possibly work in. They do run in the same circles due to their jobs. But to say that because they speak to each other, they are the one in the same; you got to be kidding, right? You do not have the facts, just speculation; and you obviously don’t mind assassinating someone’s character. You like to do the same as John Trotter does. You are no different than John. Throw a couple of rumors out there and BAM, it’s all good for you.
So let’s go down your “DOT” list.
First; you only have four “DOTS” and essentially two of them are the same, (DOT 1 & 4) so let’s just take the other two, okay? Dot 1 and 4 were discussed above. Just because you talk to someone, you are not that person…..right? You understand that part, Right? Okay, let’s move on to the other two. Oh dang! They are the same also, so of your four (DOTS) you really only had two (DOTS/questions/statements).
DOT 2 and 3- How does John making comments about an alleged affair have anything to do with Glenn Dowell? Girl, that is reaching there isn’t it? You mean to tell me that John said all of that to get Glenn elected? Then tell me this, why did Eddie tell people in the community long before that info was put on the blogs that he was not running for his seat again. Eddie made these statements last year. So please get your facts straight. I am not sure when Glenn made his decision to run, but I can say that I do not believe that it was based upon information from this blog that enticed him to do so, and I do not believe it had anything to do with John Trotter either. But the facts don’t matter to you, you will continue to SPECULATE and ASSASINATE at free will. And by the way, I have spoken to each and every one of the candidates running for the school board. Have you done the same? I spoke to Glenn with regards to his association with John, and I was pleased and satisfied with his answers. I strongly suggest you do the same.

For Immediate Release Press Release
Fed Up with Controversy, Conflict, Deceit, Divisiveness, Impropriety and Negligence, Commissioner Virginia Burton Gray says Enough is Enough!
I am tired and I have had enough. I have lived in Clayton County too long to allow anyone to come here and deceive, divide, and destroy this County. We, as citizens of the county, have suffered all too long from politics and politicians. Our school system, our economy, our neighborhoods, and our children suffer. Politicians, who involve themselves in our government for their own selfish needs and goals, whether for money, power, or helping friends gain money and power, have taken advantage of the citizens and have raped the county, leaving almost nothing.
Chairman Bell came to Clayton County in 2005 promising the citizens of Clayton County the world, smiling, dancing, and singing. Well, he is still smiling, dancing, and singing. But, the citizens are not. Bell has accomplished nothing since becoming Chairman in 2005, except to instigate controversy and division and bring more shame to the county.
Bell’s negligence and inattention to the needs of the county is evident in his campaign literature. He focuses only on the school system, which is the one major issue in the county over which he has no power. He claims that I sided with the politicians, while he sided with the children. This is nothing more than propaganda designed to inflame and insight the citizens. More than anything, the literature is a testament to Eldrin’s belief that the citizens of the county are easily confused and misled. He knows as well as most Clayton County citizens that children are one of my main focus groups. He also knows I have consistently utilized my influence to the fullest to bring positive attention to issues related to them.
Only one Commissioner voted for Eldrin’s resolution asking School Board members to resign. The resolution passed on a technicality due to one Commissioner having abstained without reason and his vote being counted affirmative. However, Bell had already requested the Board’s resignations, as had numerous citizens and organizations in the County. That resolution was simply another song and dance performed to dupe the citizens. At that time, we, the Board, knew that we had no power or authority over the Board of Education.
The recent mailings misconstrue the purpose, intent, and reasoning behind the resolution. It almost seems as if Eldrin was sleeping, as he oftentimes does, through the discussion at the Board meeting. We, as a board, excluding Eldrin, passed a resolution asking the Governor to intervene within his powers to send a leadership team to come to the county to assist the Board of Education in meeting the SACS mandates. This was largely because the citizens were already asking the Governor to intervene and the Board members were clearly not going to step down.
Not one piece of literature, website, campaign sign, billboard, or t-shirt produced by his campaign addresses Eldrin Bell’s record or lists any positive contributions to the county by him. Eldrin has done nothing for the citizens of the county and has nothing to offer them. These facts are apparent by his failure to participate in the League of Women Voters Georgia Voter Guide posted on the AJC’s website.
When Chairman Bell does choose to make an appearance, he continues his song and dance of misrepresentation and deception. Bell will say anything to please a crowd, while confusing the issues. In a recent forum held at Clayton State College and University, he stated that the cause of the high percentage of mortgage delinquencies in the county was due to the high number of single mothers with children in Clayton County. He went on to say that he was working with the Director of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Carlo Musso to find a solution. Dr. Carlo Musso is not the Director of Housing and Urban Development. In that forum, he also claimed that he was responsible for making homework available to Clayton County students on the Internet. That program was instituted before Bell became Chairman of the Board.
This past weekend, the Chairman was partying with Jack Galardi, a named plaintiff in a lawsuit against the county and the sheriff. Chairman Bell is a named Defendant. Citizens heavily opposed the construction of the huge Pink Pony complex in Forest Park. The strip club’s owner, Jack Galardi, is now suing the county and Sheriff Victor Hill. However, as a result of the recent incident involving the Chairman at Galardi’s party, citizens rightfully question the propriety of the relationship between the Chairman and Galardi.
The issue is not whether Chairman Bell was shot or burned. The issue is: Why is Bell socializing with a Plaintiff in a major lawsuit, in which Bell is a named Defendant? Or, is Bell the real reason the Pink Pony came to Clayton County? Clayton County Code Enforcement wrote a number of citations concerning violations at the Pink Pony Strip Club. Those citations have disappeared. Maybe Chairman Bell can tell us where they are. What or who will Bell impose on the citizens next? More importantly, this is not the first time Bell’s associations have been questioned. His actions jeopardize the integrity of the entire Board of Commissioners.
In each instance, the Chairman has smiled, danced, and dodged the impropriety of his association with Galardi.
Well, enough is enough. My answer to Eldrin Bell, his accusations, deceit, and impropriety is a song he should learn by the popular artist Mary J. Blige: NO MORE DRAMA! I am going to win this election, set this county back on the right track, and send Eldrin back to Atlanta. Let him sing and dance there.

I am appalled that you would use this forum as a vehicle to promote your candidacy. If that were the purpose of this forum, all candidates would be given equal opportunity to bang their drum.
But since you have, please answer this question:
Did you vote against the BOC resolution to ask all members of the Board of Education to resign immediately?
A yes or no answer will suffice.

This press release was sent to all forums, blogs, email addresses, newspapers, and any other media to respond to disinformation mailed out to the voters. The purpose of this post was to inform voters. What else is everyone else doing on this forum other than promoting their candidates. Virginia did not herself post this release. However, as a staunch supporter of Ms. Gray, I felt it necessary to reach citizens wherever they are to give them full facts.

Sorry for getting off topic, but I have to say this.
Despite all the good Virginia Gray has done, she was right there every single time with the dreaded Eldrin Bell, ignoring, laughing at and dismissing citizens during public comments at every BOC meeting I ever attended.
I can’t count how many times those 2 had their heads together chatting it up about whatever while citizens were up there trying to talk to them about county issues. It was beyond rude.
The 2 of them were thick as thieves (pun intended) until Gray decided to run for Commission chair herself and THAT is when Eldrin Bell became the devil. Prior to her campaign, I never heard her say a bad word about him. What’s up with that? She should at least be consistent.
I am no fan of Eldrin Bell either, but Virginia Gray won’t be much better and I have personally watched her (and Eldrin) dismiss citizens and their concerns at BOC meetings unless they were aligned with her beliefs/agenda. That is a huge reason why she will not get my vote for Commission Chair. If she’s not listening now, she really won’t be listening if she’s running the entire show.
I wish we had another viable candidate for commissioner, unfortunately Eldrin Bell is the best of the worst.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming - SCHOOL UNIFORMS - love the idea!

I’m sorry citizens! There is just too much Trotter on this board to ignore! He’ll say that he doesn’t like himself just to try to convince me or whoever is reading that its not him posting. The only person and group I have ever spoken out against is Trotter and MACE. Although, I have spoken out against Dowell, I have never said anything about Youth Empowerment other than I am sure it has helped a lot of children. Trotter and Attn: Clayton Parents are the only two bloggers who have ever used “Anon, Anon” or whatever because he thinks that the use of trite phrases will make him appear to be intellectually superior over me.
Then, Virginia Burton Gray posts a blog here right after him. Trotter’s picture was up on the Clayton home page for around a month with Burton-Gray’s campaign sign behind him, right next to Norreese Hayne’s campaign sign. Why is the leader of a teacher’s union taking interest in a candidate for chairman in a county other than the one he lives in?!
Truthfully, I’m tired of going back and forth with the arrogant blow-hard, and I know many of you are sick of these off-topic debates about the integrity of the candidates. I’m hanging up my blogging moniker and letting this issue be. I trust in the intellect and common sense of my neighbors to vote wisely.

Virginia Gray,
How long were you a patsy for Charlie, Crandal, and Gerald? The answer is, the whole time! How many people did you tell that you were Mark Griswell’s real estate agent? Yes we know you were Mark’s agent and we all know that you voted on projects that Mark was rezoning and developing. Who do you blame for all of the Over Development that occurred in your past terms? I blame you and Crandel and Gerald and Charlie.Yes Mark Griswell, Charlie Griswell’s son. How many deals did you vote on that Mark received preferential treatment on that you benefited from? I say, I say, my sons will get a lot more real estate deal through that pesky new ZOning Process thats in place.
Not like da old days, Remember Virginia? Why a developer like my son Mark or Mr. Stephans, why they’d just show up knowin the deal was done and approval just a formality.
I appreciate you standin up for the little guy like I always did. When I, I mean we, I mean YOU get to be Commissioner, it’ll be like Old Times won’t it Virginia?
Why that Bell even had the nerve to go changin thise zoning ordinaces on us didn’t he? That really put a stop to our friends’ profits he..he.. you bein real estate and all.
Now that you published that hand-out, me an ole Crandall will put another one together for ya.

Well, Mrs. Gray or Gray Supporter,
Mrs. Gray is part of the problem. Rather than point fingers at Bell, she again shows how she is reactive, rather than pro-active. Forever trailing on the coat-tails of others. She was like this when she was the only Black Commissioner. She does not introduce new legislation or take the initiative with the BOC either. Sorry, but an agent of change she is not. More like an agent of status-quo, lol!
Your claim that Chairman Bell has not done anything good for Clayton County is false. In fact, at the Clayton State Political Forum a few months back, Mr. Bell was able to cite many positives contributions that he or the BOC have done. You, Mrs. Gray, however, could not come up with even one example of a positive contribution to the County by you or even the BOC. At a loss for words? Better get back to the White Developers who are financing your campaign, (or John Trotter) for an answer. Maybe they can tell you what to say to placate the masses of ClayCo.
And your District 3-RIVERDALE, is a (negative) sight to behold, indeed! Section 8 must be great! What exactly have you done to improve YOUR district since YOU have held your seat? It looks to me that it went/has/and is going downhill under YOUR watch. Any positives? Well, its residents can all thank the current mayor of Riverdale, Mrs. Dixion, instead.
It also goes without saying that your BOC voting record is dismal. Second only to the incompetent ‘Ed-muffin-son’. Do you like ignoring speakers during public comment time? They only want to be heard by you. But, you constantly preen and prattle about - la la la - ignoring what is in the best interests of the County and turn a blind eye to your very own county employees. Prefer Sheriff Hill over the Chief of Police Turner? Why, it seems that way. Everyone knows your Riverdale is a ‘lil Vic stronghold. You belittle the very competent Chief of Police and nickle and dime the other departments. Please retire after your defeat and build up your real estate company with your White developer friends. But hey, maybe in 2 years, you can run for a school board seat. Just ask John Trotter over lunch how to do that.

Platitudes served up again with no documentation. “According to studies across the nation, uniform dress codes lessen emphasis on fashion, reduce the financial burden on families, and promote learning, school pride, and peer acceptance,” says Clayton County Public Schools spokesman Charles White via press release.”
The only two studies to date show that uniforms do nothing. One is from Pasco County, Florida and the other is Dr. Brumsma. It does put a financial burden on families. Or do you think the kids are going to be running around in the uniform after school? Not or if they are, what modifications do you think they can come up with? Rolling the skirt up until it is hiked to the cheeks, unbutton clevage, boys roll up sleeves and loosen waist band to start? Seen that.
Isn’t what we want, an education for kids? I haven’t seen my clothes teach me anything (maybe how to launder better). This is a herring, divide the parents up about a nothing issue and get them off our backs. Good work

Wow,
A quick check of the link shows that uniforms actually decrease academic performance. Even in Catholic schools where you’d discipline and parent support would not be issues, uniform wearings scored three points lower than in Catholic schools where students don’t wear uniforms.
Never would have thought that. I thought the harm would come from uniforms being the red herring to appease the public, not from the uniforms themselves.
Well, when discipline remains a major problem, you can’t say people didn’t try to warn you.

These are two direct quotes from your link:
“In addition, no empirical studies show that uniforms consistently produce positive changes in student behavior over time.”
“Nevertheless, there is not much empirical data to support a cause-and-effect relationship between school uniforms and violence.”

Anonymously Anonymous thank you for seeing the pattern and Bovine excrement that Trotter has been posting on this board. I would love to post the IP addresses to prove that its Trotter but I’m not sure of the legal ramifications if I do.
Secondly concerning Virgina Gray. Why in the world would I vote for her when she is being supported by the old guard (The Griswells) and Trotter. Look up her campaign disclosures (and all the candidates for that matter) and you will see the proof. Her only desire is to get back into office and try and lift the developer overlays/moratorium so that Clayco will be a developer free for all for the Old guard again.
If you don’t think the old guard still has their hands in the mix then do some research with the candidates campaign disclosures and see who contributes to and what companies owned by the old guard contribute.
Let me give it to you straight no chaser……….
Not everyone who is your skin is your kin. I really hope we do our research and vote in qualified candidates this go round and not just because they look like you. For those militant bruthas and sistas that want to jump on me for saying that then understand this; I am not advocating to vote for a any other person that doesn’t share your hue. What I am advocating is to **vote qualifications and that alone. If that is done in this election while doing some research on these candidates then we’ll be in a pretty good position to move the county forward.

Glen Dowell - a 20 year ATL school employee - but then sued the school system - taxpayers’ money - in much the same way John Trotter after years of service sued the Clayton system - again taxpayers’ money. Birds of a feather flock together, huh. Now Glen Dowell - works a federal non-profit - which IRS filings show - with operational monies from 2002 thru 2006 of $2.4 million - 80 percent which comes from - guess who - federal grants(me and you - taxpayers’ money). During that same time the paperwork shows a unpaid tax liability totaling over $300,000. IRS paperwork is confusing sometimes - but someone should explain this issue. Make no mistake - Glen Dowell is in this race for - MONEY. He has stated he will not vote on any dealings the non-profit may have with Clayton, but, boy, will he be set up for networking with his new found contacts to every other county in the state and regionally too. MO MONEY, MO MONEY, MO MONEY. And John Trotter’s angle - more MACE chapters throughout the state using those same contacts. Hey Glen - why you driving around in that little bitty pickup truck - you afraid to show the people the car you really drive - a Bentley. Afraid they would then know where your priorities lie.

I don’t think any candidate should be hanging around while people are voting. I also saw another school board candidate in the parking lot. I can’t remember his name but at one of the forums he stated he was a Minister at New Birth South.

To: Simple-Minded CLAYTON TAXPAYER & that Dummy Anonymously Anonymous, First of all, those Trump Up charges were leveled by Rev. Rod Johnson, yes, the same one that initiated the Whole SACS debacle in this County. If, your Boy, Rob Johnson didn’t go to SACS, the County wouldn’t be under SACS investigation. Remember That Now Before We Start!! Now you two dummies Taxpayer and Anonymous, obviously CAN’T READ!! The pdf. file of the SACS report have been posted online in the News Daily and AJC for 5 months, and You, idiots haven’t read it. If you would have Read it, you WOULDN’T have seen any of Rod Johnson’s Trump Up charges against Sandra Scott, or Norsesee Hanyes for that matter in it. Remember, that Idiot Rod Johnson stated in the Daily and AJC that Nossesee had taken a 10 million Dollar bribe from CEP. You two idiots didn’t see that in the SACS report, You know why, (IT DIDN’T HAPPEN). However, the same Rev. Rod Johnson was on TV and in the Newspaper, a day after the SACS report trying to Explain the FACTS found in the SACS report. That he voted to give his wife a $20,000.00 per year rise (Unethical), and Knowingly hiring a CRIMINAL/PEDOPHILE to work for the schools. Now You two idiots are STILL reciting his charges, you guys are worse off than I thought!! You two simple-mined Fools, let me educate you on Public Officials; I promise I’ll keep it Simple! First of all the e-mail retrieval IS very simple. It called the OPEN RECORDS ACT, and guess what IDOITS, for private citizens the cost is .25 per copy. GUESS what Idiots, OPEN RECORDS are FREE to PUBLIC OFFICIALS. Secondly, you say ran up $200 for open school—- this item was the November 2007 Rex Mill Community Forum, idiots, you didn’t attend; GUESS WHO was in attendance The THREE BOE members, the interim superintendent, some Admin. Staff and about 100 members of District 9. SACS, Elgart saw fit not to mention it in the SACS report, because he praise COMMUNITY FORUMS. Idiots. Beside that the school was already open kids were still practicing BASKETBALL, when we came and when we left.
Thirdly, this is SUPER SIMPLE; Read the Coach’s Own statement!! He will tell you in His STATEMENT that he QUIT his own job. That’s why You Two Idiots didn’t see it in the SACS REPORT. HOWEVER, I know why YOU keep talking about it! Because one of you two JACKAZZES is Rob Johnson, himself and the other AZZHOLE is that Big Head White Person. Thanks for the links about school uniform policies and research.
One study, “…DeMitchell, Todd A.; Fossey, Richard; and Cobb, Casey. “Dress Codes in the Public Schools: Principals, Policies, and Precepts.” Journal of Law & Education 29:1 (January 2000): 31-49. EJ 606 474. Available from: Journal of Law & Education, Jefferson Law Book Company, 2100 Huntingdon Ave., Baltimore, MD 21211.
Aware that the voice of the nation’s principals was largely missing from the debate over dress codes in public schools, DeMitchell, Fossey, and Cobb surveyed 240 principals who were randomly selected from a national directory and equally grouped in elementary schools, middle/junior high schools, and high schools. Nearly two-thirds responded and some sent copies of their dress-code policies for the researchers to analyze.
The principals expressed strong support for dress codes, with 85 percent reporting that dress codes were needed at their schools. Most expressed the belief that dress codes “improve student behavior, reduce peer sexual harassment, prepare students for the work world, and are worth the trouble that it takes to enforce.”
The researchers note that principals’ opinions varied somewhat with their schools’ grade levels and locations. While high school principals expressed greatest support for dress codes, but took a dim view of school uniforms, middle school principals indicated the strongest support for mandatory school uniforms…”
After reading most of the linked articles and research, I’d be for uniforms in elementary and middle schools and against uniforms in high schools. Uniform doesn’t have to mean buying from a vendor; it can also mean simply requiring khaki pants/skirts and polo-type shirts.
Now yall can return to your asinine rants and raves for and against your favorite or hated politician. Any politician (board member or commission member or candidate) who posts here should never be elected. It only shows how low that person will stoop. Kimberly’s blogs always produce maundering pejorative and imprecations that seldom have anything to do with the original subject. Therefore, to respond to such ignorant vitriol only feeds the frenzy lowers the said politician to the same level of inaneness and mediocrity.

Published: Thursday, July 10, 2008 Sheriff accused of stealing signs
By Daniel Silliman
dsilliman@news-daily.com
A candidate for sheriff has filed a police report accusing the sheriff’s office of theft.
Ernest Strozier, who is one of five men challenging Sheriff Victor Hill in the upcoming election, contacted the Jonesboro Police department on Tuesday, reporting that a deputy and several work-release inmates stole a $250 sign.
“The sheriff is crazy,” Strozier said. “He thinks he’s above the law. He makes up the law as he goes. Hopefully, charges will be brought.”
Strozier said he had a four-foot by eight-foot sign at the BP gas station on the corner of Tara Boulevard and North Street, with the permission of the gas station owner. Strozier drove by on Tuesday, a week before the primary election, and saw the sign was gone. He stopped to ask the owner why, and was told a dark-colored pickup, with a deputy and a couple of inmates, removed the sign.
“A guy who was sitting there said, ‘The sheriff just took it away,’” Strozier said. “He asked the deputy why, and the deputy said, ‘Sheriff told us to take them.’”
Hill could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The Strozier campaign, which has spent an estimated $4,000 on political signs, was told the sign was at the sheriff’s impound lot, and was removed because it was too close to the road.
According to the police report, the BP owner was told the signs had to be more than 10 feet away from the road and the deputy said he was enforcing the county code.
The sheriff’s office does not have a code enforcement unit.
The county police department, which has a code enforcement unit, does a “sign sweep” every day, according to spokesman Tim Owens, removing signs which are too close to the right-of-way.
Witnesses, however, said the only signs being taken by the sheriff’s “code enforcement” detail were the ones promoting Hill’s challengers.
James Morgan, who works at the W.B. Casey Plant in Jonesboro, said he saw a deputy and two inmates removing campaign signs on Flint River Road.
Morgan said they took a number of signs promoting Kem Kimbrough, who’s on the July 15 ballot for sheriff.
“The inmate picked it up and he threw it in the pickup,” Morgan said. “He had big, tall signs and he a lot of little signs in there.”
Morgan said he’s met Hill, and supports a lot of what he’s done in the county, and he is considering voting to re-elect him, but he still thought taking signs was wrong.
“I just don’t think it’s fair,” he said. “Those people are paying for the signs. They have the right to put them out there just like everyone else.”
The Kimbrough campaign and the Garland Watkins campaign both reportedly have pictures of a sheriff’s vehicle loaded down with challengers’ seized signs.
Strozier said he’s heard from supporters that whole stretches of his signs were disappearing and being replaced by red-and-white, pro-consolidation signs.
The signs, saying “VOTE YES TO CONSOLIDATION,” cropped up this week. The signs urge support for the non-binding ballot measure proposing the abolishment of the Clayton County Police Department. The idea of consolidation, which would shift all county-wide-law enforcement to the sheriff’s office, has long been supported by Hill, and was put on the ballot by Kevin Thomas, head of the county Democratic party.
The question is incorrectly written, asking “should the county’s charter be amended,” even though county’s don’t have charters, and it’s non-binding, so it will have no actual effect.
Thomas said the question is a way for elected officials to hear from the public on an important and much-discussed question, though the only official who’s ever publicly talked about consolidation is Hill, who stands to benefit from the proposed move.
Some say the consolidation question is really a referendum, and a vote “yes” is a vote for giving Hill more power.
The five men challenging the sheriff — all opposed to consolidation — say the sheriff already has too much power.
For Strozier, having subordinates take signs is just another example of Hill’s alleged reckless disregard for everything except his own authority.
Strozier spent the afternoon building new signs and attempting to get the one sign returned.
“It’s tempting to just steal his signs,” Strozier said, “but I got too much integrity to resort to that sort of thing.”

Fortunately some people can think for themselves and not all black people are Hill, Scotts, Thomas, Dowell, or Trotter voting robots. However, that is not yet the case for many here in Clayton County but it is getting better. Many of these “robots” still exist and hopefully they’ll change before the election realizing that another four years of what we’ve endured will be a lifelong prison sentance for some. The outcomes of actions by the Scotts, Hills, etc. will last decades. Remember this, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. You need not go far to find how they have negatively impacted Clayton County - and often at that. Consider them worse than what we had on the school board. The only difference is that it will take longer to essentially see the same effect. You can be assured failure is around the corner for them as well and the impact on your lives will be as significant.
For those that aren’t voting robots, they have learned and don’t want any part of them and realize that the tired socialist government policies, lawsuits, poor management, illegal doings, and other things of the Democrats in Clayton County are as bad for them as they are for everyone else. They reject the Kevin Thomas, Hill, and Scotts’ Democrat’s platform of perpetual minority dependency. They want to strengthen opportunities to achieve the American dream and know that paying for a smaller government and letting people keep more of what they earn instead of turning it over to corrupt and incompetent Clayton County bureaucrats is the path to that dream. How many outstanding lawsuits are yet to be decided upon. You should know, Hill will not win any of them. He will cost you. His failure to serve warrants is already doing that.
The days of large groups of uneducated, uninformed minority voters is over, and the Clayton County Democrat’s agenda, which counts on and preys on illiteracy and ignorance will find it increasingly more difficult to fool an educated and upwardly mobile minority population.
Success is the Clayton County Democrat’s enemy with respect to the black community. They need DEPENDENCY not success. But unfortunately for them, they blinked, and many in the black community achieved that success IN SPITE of the Democrats effort to keep them enslaved and dependent upon their scare tactics and government handouts.
Well educated, successful black voters are the Clayotn County Democrats worst nightmare. How are they going to make them dependent now? How are they going to force them back into dependency so they can control their votes? You see this with the Scott’s trying to pay “volunteers” or giving limo rides. You see this from Sheriff Hill removing other candidates signs and firing/demoting educated white/black employees. They are afraid of the educated minority! The era of the Democrat’s tyrannical, racist, big government agenda of minority dependency is finally nearing an end. Let’s speed up the process, Clayton County. Rid it once and for all. The genie is out of the bottle, and it’s never going back in. Vote NO to those who think of you only as their uneducated slaves - Scotts, Hill, Trotter, and Thomas. Also vote no to consolidation.

Since you want to bring up Catholic Schools, here’s a quote from the authors of the study.
“Within the Catholic school literature, school uniforms have never been asserted as a primary factor in producing the Catholic school effect.”
If you think uniforms will turn ClayCo into anything remotely close to your daughter’s school, then you are woefully uninformed as to the differences between public and private schools, and the teaching conditions in each.
As far as the rest of your “statistical analysis” you might want to leave that up to those who, at the very least, have enough intellectual acumen to not make broad generalizations based on a single, private school, when it comes to dicusssing the efficacy of uniforms in the public schools.

Parents who are against uniforms must be the ones that send their poor children in sleeveless shirts and flip flops. Parents that never visit schools and do not know that classrooms are usually cold, so children must be better attired.
The proposed uniforms are only a way to tell those irresponsible parents how to dress their children properly. I doubt that they will comply.

Attn: Clayton Parents,
As a teacher, the knee-jerk response is to feel that what’s needed is a lot more discipline. And, since most of the problem arise from a minority of the students, your most ardent (and normally your most secret) wish is that the 25% that are causing all the problems could be expelled permanently, or transferred permanently to some other facility, so that the 75% of the kids who want to get an education could do so.
Nevertheless, the main trouble with this solution is its superficiality. You really have to examine the question of why you have 25% of your student body running their mouth and doing round-offs in the hallways.
The underlying trouble rests squarely on an economically unjust society. The fact that urban school systems are vast and highly politicized bureauocracies is also an unhelpful, and related, problem.
I think every neighborhood should have its own small school that was run entirely by the neighborhood. Keeping the schools as small as practicable is, I think, a key element.
But even at that, this is a problem that can’t be solved by anything short a level of social and economic justice sufficient to create economic security and family stability.
More discipline? That’s not the answer. You’ve got to go deeper than that. Most of these trouble makers bring their family problems with them. And its usually the cause.
By WTF?
July 10, 2008 5:35 PM | Link to this
As I said in an earlier post … baby steps. Our schools didn’t deteriorate overnight, so it will take time to make things better.
Uniforms are a good step in the right direction. The next step? Electing competent people to serve on the BOE come July 15. Hopefully the next step will be Gov. Perdue removing those board members who refuse to go and then the new board taking another look at Thompson’s inflated contract and send him packing. There is no quick fix for this issue and attire will not fix the discipline problems, that has to start at home with the parents.

Quote from KT
“…your most ardent (and normally your most secret) wish is that the 25% that are causing all the problems could be expelled permanently, or transferred permanently to some other facility, so that the 75% of the kids who want to get an education could do so.”
Oh what a terrible, cruel, person I am to wish that those who make good choices get the benefit of a classroom free from those students who consistently make disruptive choices.
To lay it at the feet of an “economically unjust* society is to completely disempower those you claim to care about.
A far better approach, rather than write them off as “victims,” would be to acknowledge while everybody doesn’t get the same economic hand dealt to them, everybody does get choices in how they choose to play the hand dealt them.
And the best way to do that, is to not shield them from the consequences of their poor behavior choices.
Don’t think for a moment I’m going to allow you to portray me as someone who doesn’t care about these “25 percent”. I care enough about them, believe in their innate ability enough that I’m willing to hold them responsible for their choices.
It is those who would focus on an admittedly unjust economic society, rather than on their inherent talent and ability who do the real disservice to them by making excuses for them all the way up to the point where judge doesn’t and then you cry “oh the children.”
Maybe you should consider that if they were removed from the traditional classroom, into an alternative setting they could get the structure needed to learn how to make those choices that will lead to success, underemployment, unemployment, or worse, the prison system.
Obviously one of us believes in them and one of us believe in making excuses for them because of an “unjust society”.

KT,
Upon rereading your post, and my reply, I must admit that the statement “Obviously one of us believes in them…” is too harsh, and an unwarranted conclusion based on a single post.
But I stand by my statement that I will not allow myself to be portrayed as one who would “write the disrupters off”.
Far, far from it. The purpose of removing chronic disrupters is not strictly so others can learn; it’s so they can learn as well. About choices; about consequences; those essential elements that MUST be in place to maximize their potential as students, and as humans.
Yes I know all too well the background that many of these students come from as far as their family situation.
However, I still say the best way to empower them, to give them the best “fighting chance” is help them put the focus on their choices, their actions, and their potential to control their destiny, and not give into the “easy out” of focusing on an unjust society, and painting them as “victims”.
Students that have hardships and challenges that many can’t imagine, who need a structured setting and yes, discipline because they often come from families that provide neither? Yes, I can accept that
With a goal to give them the tools for self discipline, and ultimately the belief that they can function productively in our society. Yes I can accept that as well.
But “victims”? No I catagorically reject that, both for their benefit, and society’s. I’ll leave it to other to call them victims. Others who think they are the “enlightened beings” because they “care” but deep down inside, in places they dare not look at themselves, they really don’t think they can succeed.
Not me; I’ve seen too many cases where, even when those around them don’t, they choose to succeed. Too many cases where structure and discipline made the difference. Not a “superstar superintendent” not a “revised curriculum” not “let’s all go along to get along pretend everything is ok” not an accreditation agency who steps in as part of a political power play. None of those made the difference; structure and discipline did.
The problem is, on the macro level we don’t have the political will to insist on this. Why? With structure and discipline, things work. You don’t need consultants or superstar superintendents, or new curriculum; it short nobody gets paid

Or should that be woefully misinformed? I didn’t post the link to the research. Someone else did. Go back and check out the links for yourself earlier on this thread.
If you think “the research” is unanimous in supporting uniforms go back and read the quote from the link on this thread that was in support of uniforms:
“Nevertheless, there is not much empirical data to support a cause-and-effect relationship between school uniforms and violence.”
I’m not adamantly opposed to uniforms. I’m adamantly opposed to gullible people thinking this is a “serious” attempt to deal with discipline problems.
And no, it doesn’t effect my pocketbook one way or the other.
What’s next? Are you going to come on here and claim that Dr. Trotter had the housing projects torn down in Atlanta, so that more discipline problem would come to Clayton and MACE would get more members?

TO FRED SCHWARTZ..AKA-LIAR AND RUMOR MONGER
From my research, Dowell reported the cheating of the Atlanta School System on norm and criterion referenced tests. He was vindicated in court and won a considerable monetary settlement. In fact, he could have continued his employment with the district. Face it loser- the only thing you bloggers have in your arsenal is some crap about his relationship with John Trotter and some Victor Hill. Some blogger even said the man worked for the Rainbow house which is a lie.
Dowell will probally win on Tuesday but if he does not win it does not change the facts that at the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church’s forum on last night, Askew and Baker came off looking like stupid, raving idiots. I have also changed my mind about Rigdon, that boy is a special education case.
Oh, and about that Youth Empowerment Project crap-check the second page of the article written by the News-Daily to tarnish the man’s reputation. It was Gus Furlong, former financial officer for the organization who caused the problem idiots. Dowell fired him.
The truth scares the hell out of you-does it not?

Unfortunately, I can only suggest that comments be removed. The AJC is responsible for monitoring it and physically removing posts, and they do have posting guidelines.
For those who contribute to this blog regularly, I am asking for your help.
If you read a blog that is offensive in ANY WAY, please use the Comment Removal Request section located at the top left hand corner of this blog (directly above the “Access Atlanta Blogs” list). You will need to copy/cut/paste the blogger’s name, date/time of post & the comments. If the post is in violation of the AJC’s guidelines, it will be removed.
While I have no problem asking the editors to remove posts, I don’t read this blog thoroughly all the time & would not want derogatory comments (especially about children) to stay on here indefinitely. Using that Comment Removal Request section at the top left hand corner of this blog could garner a quicker response/removal in case I am not online.
Talking about someone’s children is NEVER okay regardless of the topic. Can we please exercise some common sense and decency on this blog? There is no excuse for this and that type of commentary is never considered intelligent dialogue.
As always, I would like to say THANK YOU to those who contribute positively to this blog.

gheba’smom,
Thank you for making my point with the following quote from your post.
As for the discipline problem. The kids knew that the school and the parents would be working together not against one another. So if she got in trouble at school the first words out of my mouth was NOT how dare they make you behave. It was Why didn’t you do what was right? Can you say the same?
No CCPS can NOT say the same. Not even close. When parents fail to do the job, or when parents try to rescuse their children from their children’s poor choices CCPS more often than not, caves in.
When parents do do their job, or go above and beyond like DADS, CCPS more often than not is not supportive, if not downright hostile.
Uniforms will NOT change that.
And yes, statistics can, and are often skewered in education. So look to the motivation of those pushing the statistics.
Compare what’s to be gained from reviewing reseach and concluding that the record on uniforms is inconclusive at best, to the plenty to be gained by school systems desperate to appear they are “addressing discipline” by making unfounded claims about uniforms, that the studies don’t back up.
Facts and logic; facts and logic.
Again I’m not opposed to uniforms if for no other reason that it might help students think about brand name mentality, and smart financial choices.
What I oppose are gullible people who actually think that Thompson and CCPS are seriously “addressing discipline” when history (and the lack of any other specific action in conjunction with uniforms) tells us nothing could be further from the truth.

Well we sure agree on that! In fact I’m not sure which would be worse: losing accreditation or watching Thompson’s and the BOE’s ego spiral TOTALLY out of control if SACS restores accreditation.
Can you imagine them at the “victory” press conference crowing like they’ve been “vindicated”?

How can you say “Blacks for sale” when I voted for a black person. People like you are the reason we are in this mess.
I really don’t care who you endose, your opinion really not that valuable. How’s that dollar for a lawyer thing working for you? That’s what I thought. No one listen to you .

from the local paper
Lee Scott – Headley Lee Scott – has yet to file his paperwork on financial disclosure. Big surprise! Too bad non-disclosure does not remove you from the race for that position.. For a man who bragged he spent over $200K on his last failed campaign for County Commissioner and another $200K on getting his wife elected DA – he is not well organized. While we are here – did anybody read the brochure mailed out by the guy running for DA – Mr. Adams. In it, he claims that DA Jewel Scott had her husband, Lee Scott’s criminal record expunged so he could run for office. Is this true – or just campaign BS? If untrue – could he be sued for libel? Maybe the less investigation on this issue, the better it would be for Headley – I mean Lee..
Virginia Gray shows her true colors. Campaign contributions from the worst of our recent past. The white good-ole-boy system championed by former Chairmen Crandell Bray and Charlie Griswell – both Virginia Gray contributors – helped set the stage for our county’s demise. They never met a developer they did not like or could not make money from. Other developers include Griswell’ son Mark and also John D Stephens. Looks like a vote for Virginia Gray is a vote to return to the past. This is something – none of us can afford.
Check out the candidates before you vote.
On the school uniforms issue – Let’s hope they can do a better job at that than the totally failed dress code and backpack policy. Maybe make it a requirement for a school to comply or the school administration - Principals and Assistant principals get jettisoned.

I have respectfully disagree with you. Solicitor Miller Terry has been tainted by the Scott’s by accepting campaign money from them. Once you take money from Headley you will owe him favors.

I agree that a diversion program is needed for youth who make ‘a mistake’. However, felonies like assault, battery, murder, rape, armed robbery, etc are not ‘simple mistakes’. Juveniles with rap sheets a mile long with multiple arrests are not ‘our children’ either as we (Blacks) are usually their victims. If one is man/woman enough to do a serious crime, then they need to be man/woman enough to do the time.
All too often these ‘children’ are nothing more than leeches upon the Black Community and a plague upon our good name.

Black Rain,
I’m not sure how true it is, but other bloggers have mentioned that Jewel Scott has done that for Lee Scott, her son, and some others.

I have a neighbor who has a three-year old daughter. A seven-year old boy ripped her clothes off of her and attempted to assault her sexually. This same 7-year old boy had a previous arrest for assault and battery the previous year. All that Jewel Scott did was make the mother promise to take the boy to counseling. They didn’t even give the kid a probation officer to make sure that he fulfilled the court-ordered obligation. This boy was given a second chance, and now he’s been given a third chance. When he is 13 years old and raping little girls, will he deserve yet another “second chance”? Violent and sexual crimes committed by minors should be ZERO TOLERANCE!! That is the only way to stop them from growing up to be career offenders!

A former Clayton County youth diversion program particpant:
One suspect is in custody and one is still on the loose after an armed robbery and kidnapping Monday afternoon at one of Fayetteville’s busiest intersections.
Travion Marquez Willis, 17, of Riverdale, is being held on various felony charges, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
Arrest warrants have been taken out for Christopher Deangelo Wakefield, 22, whose last known address was Riverdale.

Willis (17) is serving first offender probation in a March drug and criminal trespass case in Clayton County, court records show.

William Hill www.electwilliamhill.com School Board candidate for District 6 did a superb job last night at the forum hosted by Jonesboro First United Methodist Church. He spoke with passion and genuine concern about our children and the community. Also he spoke directly to the issues at hand. Tell everyone in District 6 to vote for William Hill; he will serve our district well.

Raja - thank you for sharing this link! I had not heard that one!
Not that I was gonna vote for Jewel Scott ANYWAY but thanks for confirming yet again that a vote for Jewel or Lee Scott is a vote for CROOKS and CORRUPTION!
Let’s not forget that a few months back, Jewel Scott used her position as DA to get her son off from some crime he committed in Atlanta!
Another interesting tidbit for me is that after living here almost 6 years and experiencing several elections where Lee Scott was running for some public office, I NEVER heard the man speak before because he never does election forums or meet and greets and he is obviously using a picture from a long time ago on his billboards because he looks very different on this news footage.
VOTE NO TO CONSOLIDATION AND ANY CANDIDATE WITH THE LAST NAME SCOTT AND ANYONE AFFILIATED WITH THE SCOTTS IN ANY WAY (that means: Leslie Miller Terry, Michelle Thomas and especially Victor Hill!)

I just received a flyer stating that Eldrin Bell and John Trotter back together again.
Repeat That is a ploy to sabotage Eldrin. He is not with TROTTER.
Eldrin, you will defeat them as there is no candidate that can stand up to you in this race.
Lee I also received your racist flyer.
To bad you won’t win either. We know what you and Jewel and Victor are about.
We need good people this go round and you guys need to step back and let the change happen because it will.
Sorry for your disappointment.
My choice is Rainwater, Lawson, Mosley, Bell, Michael Bryant, Antionne.
See Ya.,

Trotter, why are you trying to destroy Eldrin? You are jealous because no one would vote for you running for anything not even the town nut. You know he is not with you and don’t need you that’s why you sent out that mess with the picture of you and him from 2004.
That is old news, Eldrin moved on from the likes of you. You are old news to, you and Noreese whatever…….

Rod Johnson took a Stupid Pill now the effects are endless. Don’t measure yourself by what you have accomplished, but by what you should have accomplished with your ability. Rod Johnson should have thought about that phrase before he destroyed his and his wife’s Political career. Now he has put his family on food stamps and syrup sandwiches. Because his wife won’t be re-elected now. Ha Ha HaHaHa!!!!

Thanks to Raja for the link showing the Scotts and thier hypocrisy. What makes it hilarious is to see just how old and fat Lee Scott really is, in comparison to his billboard and campaign literature. In real life - he is 20-25 years older and 70-80 pounds heavier. You should not be ashamed of his appearance, Headley. Come on Lee be yourself. On second thought - we do not like the real Lee Scott anymore than the Fake public face you try to put forward now. If the public only knew - your past and recent escapades, rants and threats against public officials and private citizens. After you are again defeated and your dutiful island wife and ego-maniac puppet sheriff are voted out - who will protect you then. It will be time to pack up, leave Georgia and find another set of apathetic voters - try MS. OR stay here and you entire family can bunk up in the same jail cell.

I would like to say thank you to all the Clayton citizens who came out to vote on July 15, 2008. I was very disappointed in our county in that very few people voted. When is this going to stop-that is the lack of support for your community. People talk about change and things being made right in this county. There were more people who showed up for the free activities at the Galaxy Movie Theaters than the polls. Take responsibility for your community. We all are responsible for the good that is done in the community. Please come out for events in the community that promote togetherness with families and friends. Clayton stop sitting on your hands and putting your feet up get out and make a difference in your community. If you start with one small thing it will grow. People please get involve in your local and state government to really make changes and learn what those elected officials are doing when they are voting on areas that will impact your lives
