Can Clayton lure new businesses?

A few new businesses are trickling into Clayton County. At a time when much of the attention is focusing on problems in the school system, it’s refreshing to learn new jobs are being created. Read my latest blog entry on Wordpress

Thompson: Will he help Clayton?

Despite opposing advice from SACS, Governor Perdue’s appointed liaisons and former attorney Glenn Brock, our board of education exerted their authority and hired Dr. John W. Thompson as Clayton County public schools’ corrective superintendent.

Is he everyone’s ideal choice? No. But it is a done deal, so let’s focus on the positives, and where we can go from here:

Thompson has experience working with school boards from hell that specialize in in-house fighting. Also has a reputation for being abrasive, a characteristic he will probably need with our BOE. Doesn’t appear to be a “yes” man.

Turned a $40 million deficit into a $50 million surplus, albeit via raised taxes. CCPS can certainly use someone who will bring money into the system instead of consistently spending and mismanaging our tax dollars.

Tightened stance on truancy by tracking student attendance using an electronic database that automatically issued citations.

Created a student advisory council and parent help centers. Thompson’s ability to get parents and the community as a whole involved in their school system was one of his best attributes.

One consistent opinion I found (even from his critics) while researching Thompson is that he cares about children, which is most important. According to the Clayton News-Daily, his plan to improve CCPS includes:

҉ۢ Establishing a transition advisory committee, made up of educators from across Georgia, and the nation.

• Meeting with faith-based leaders, business leaders, students, parents, teachers, community leaders, and teachers’ union leaders to discuss ways to improve the school system. Metro Association of Classroom Educators (MACE) President John Trotter was the only person Thompson identified by name, however.

• Continuing to use the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council.

• Using high performing students, such as Jonesboro High School’s Mock Trial team, Lovejoy High School’s Technology Student Association team, and E. W. Oliver Elementary School’s Stock Market Game teams as role models to encourage other Clayton County students to strive for success.

• Expanding the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement (AP) programs.” Thompson also promises a “properly functioning [school] board”, although he declined to say how he’ll make that happen. Don’t worry Mr. Thompson, Clayton’s citizens will gladly assist you in fulfilling that promise come July 15.

Will any of the above save accreditation? Even Thompson cannot answer that, and those appointed to help have publicly written CCPS off. It definitely will not happen overnight nor without community involvement, but this could be the first step to making CCPS great again.

Done Deal? Kimberly, you’re slipping! His hiring was improper and was accomplished in violation of state law. Which is of no surprise at all as an action coming from this so called “board”. EVERY community leader, except John Trotter (although he is a community leader only in his own mind) has called for this board to LEAVE. They have ignored it so they will now be booted. Hopefully some will be prosecuted. The hiring of Thompson is a joke and a MAJOR waste of tax payer dollars.

Blog is strangely silent on the matter at hand. Maybe it is the time of day? Maybe it is that many folks want something to be mad about, but are increasingly unwilling to make any effort to try to make a difference? Maybe Clayton County folks have become as sick of this as the rest of the folks in the state?

IS Thompson the supt? Has he been legally named supt? Will there be any consequences of naming him supt in a way that does not follow legal rules? Who will hold the board accountable?

Do any of Dr. Thompson’s “plans” listed have ANY impact on SACS accreditation? Or are the plans mere window-dressing? His job, if it IS his job, is to satisfy the points that SACS has laid out.

And it is EASY to turn a deficit into a surplus if you raise taxes.

(Or, you can do as our President does, and turn a deficit into more of a deficit by giving “stimulus packages.”)

Kimberly,

I also have conducted my own research on Mr. Thompson and have listened to his brief remarks to the public. I must say that I am impressed with what I am hearing thus far. For too long, Clayton County Schools has been a “jobs program” with no accountability for people who take our tax dollars without delivering a quality product. We have teachers who report to work at 8 a.m. and leave when the final bell rings. They are not available to assist students or to respond to questions from parents before or after school. At Jonesboro High, I had a math teacher who refused to meet with me before school to discuss my child’s performance. Teachers at the school also refused to respond to emails. And administrators are no better. When the county goes to the 4-day work week during the summer, some of them leave early on Thursday!! So, some of us — those who understand that there is no quality instruction going on in far too many classrooms —know what the real issues are. Sure, the board is problematic and dysfunctional, but the real problems that impact children’s lives are administrators in the schools, particularly the low performing schools. Nowhere else in Georgia would a principal and an assistant superintendent of instruction retain their jobs while their schools continue to be low performing. It certainly wouldn’t happen in North Fulton, Cobb or Gwinnnett. But in Clayton, teachers and administrators have convinced the public that children in Clayton are too poor, too disruptive, too black, etc. to learn. News flash — poor black children all over this country are learning. Central office staff and administators refuse to remove disruptive students because they need them in the schools to use them as the excuse for not being able to teach or improve low test scores. They also need them in the schools to get funding to pay the ridiculous salaries of the former superintendent’s friends and family members. So, Mr. Thompson, I hope you clean house and retain only those who want to teach and lead. When you say your presence is divine intervention, I absolutely believe it. This current group gets half a billion dollars and 8,000 employees to education 50,000 students and they can’t improve test scores and student performance. Something is wrong with that — and it’s not always the students!!! Parents in Buckhead and in North Fulton would be screaming for a reduction in taxes with that kind of performance. But not in Clayton!!! It’s all about employment, never about accountability. It’s time that changed!!

Thompson’s tenure here has already been severely (fatally?) compromised by the blatant violation of the law during the process of his hiring. (As others have stated, only Chairman White or Supt. Duncan can call a meeting. CLEARLY they did not.)

Norreese Haynes tried to tell you what this board was about, but you didn’t want to listen.

Now you get to pay…through the nose.

Are you happy yet?

The best bet now is that the judge reinstates him, and then declares the contract invalid since Norreese (and by proxy his constituents) were illegally shut out of the hiring process.

ALERT: Earl is getting emails about a near fight between Dr. Glenn Dowell and Rod Johnson at the Qualifying Party today. Dr. Dowell says that Rod Johnson grabbed his hand very hard while he was entering the door. We would like to hear Mr. Johnson’s side also. Talking about near a near fracas, what was in David Ashe’s mind when he almost did the Herschel Walker (ala Bill Bates) on AJC Reporter Megan Metteucci (sp? Sorry if the spelling is wrong; will correct it tomorrow, is so). It was caught on TV. Are warrants of assault and possibly terroristic threat forthcoming? Mike Barnes has thrown his hat back into the ring for his old House Seat being vacated by Wade Starr. Others to watch are Jonathan Newton, Glenn Baker, Shegale Crute-Ralph, and the ladies who ran in 2006, Tina Mangham and Shannon Newton. Now to the main story about the “Macho Man”…[Earl’s copy editor]

Monday Afternoon Edition (Updated): Hello, my fellow Clayco Thugs. This is your brother, the Prophet Earl Loudermilk. Oh, you can just call me “Earl.” Last year my cousin Elvis (The Evangelist — quite successful too; he drives two different Bentleys) got me into the ministry and I have been away for a while showing people how to prosper by sowing seeds of faith in our ministry. Elvis says that it works; I know that we have been making a killing.

The Mrs. insisted on us flying (instead of driving) back to Clayco since we are now prosperous. (She even wants us to move to a more upscale condo in Boca but I love our used condo in Ft. Liqourdale where Abe and Eli and I have so much fun with the gambling pools that we create around Clayco politics. In addition, we love to go snook fishing off Las Olas Blvd. and the 14th Street Bridge.) The BCS Boys are in town to try to decide on how to fix that mess. Well, the Mrs. and I compromised, and we are flying out of MIA because it is cheaper. We have to check on our little house in Rex. We bought that booger in the Spring of 1972, the same spring when George Wallace was shot in Maryland during the heated Democratic Presidential Primar. Wow. We have a real doosey this year too. The Mrs. voted for Hillary but I voted for Obama. Hey, the Mrs. and I watched his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright on CNN last night. Man, that guy’s funny and smart as a whip. No wonder he makes white folks nervous. You see, I have been white all my life, and I know what makes white folks nervous. He makes white folks nervous, even those in Cabbagetown.

Since the Mrs. and I met in the Fall of 1967 at a get-together for Clayco coaches (we were “set up” without us knowing it), we have been following Clayco politics ever since — initially out of necessity (your job depended on it in the old days). You were simply expected to line up one way or other in a superintendent’s race. (I remember when Bobby Livingston and his twin brother Billy worked for different candidates, Bobby for * Cliff England* and Billy for Pete McQueen.) The Mrs. and I were not really political, but we had to line up. She was from Madison, Georgia and was teaching at Tara Elementary School. She had just graduated from UGA. I grew up in Cabbagetown and graduated from Roosevelt High School. I was able to go to college (the first person in our family to so) on a Rehabilitation Scholarship (diabetes). I was a pretty big fellow in those days, and I thought I might be able to play football. I tried out at Auburn and even met Tucker Frederickson (drafted #1 by the New York Football Giants). I was just dreaming. I had to hang it up after one season on the dummy team (we literally held the dummies). But, I love the Tigers, and I write to Tubberville ocassionally. Sometimes, he even writes me back. The Mrs., of course, is polite about her support of Auburn, but I know that deep down, she hollers, “How ‘Bout Them Dawgs!”

Governor Zell Miller is to be blamed for much of this stuff in Clayco. He should have never pushed for that constitutional amendment in 1992 which did away with elected superintendents. A few of us were sitting around at Butch’s one morning, and Mr. Stroud and a few others were discussing how this would impact education in Georgia in general and Clayco in particular. Mr. Stroud was a very shrewd man, and sometimes he would just sit and smile while others would ramble (when a lot of times we didn’t know what we were talking about). This was one of those days. He had a twinkle in his eye, but he just listened. (By this time, he had already retired after getting elected for our terms.) Of course, for you newcomers to Clayco, Mr. Stroud was probably the strongest and toughest superintendent in Georgia. In fact, when he retired, he became Chairman of the Georgia Teacher Retirement System, and his signature was afixed to all the checks which went to all of the school system retirees in Georgia. One fellow (whose name will remain anonymous) insisted that this would be good for education — the notion that superintendents would be appointed by the school board instead of elected by the people. But, the consensus was that it would end up with situations similar like what we have in Clayco today — uninformed, inexperienced, and unwise board members (who have never been in charge of anything) hiring someone who can “interview well” and pull the wool over these board members’ eyes. I read on-line that John Thompson’s total package is $350,000, and he doesn’t have to answer to the school board for hardly anything. I don’t think that this is legal. The school board is over a budget of nearly $6 billion. This is scary.

The Mrs. and I are sitting here in the MIA waiting for our flight to Atlanta. I have to check on a great aunt who still lives in Cabbagetown (she’s 89). One of the trees fell on her back porch. The volunteers help put it back together, but she’s still shaken up over the tornado episode. We will stay in our little house in Rex, and we hope to meet Lil Vic for supper. I think he’ll win the sheriff’s race pretty easily. We have a mess in the school system. Somebody emailed me and said that the reason that the school board members selected this man is because he is “macho.” They said something about him being a good dresser and “fine looking.” He wrote that this board member said Thompson was a “Mandingo [sp?] Man.” Perhaps I too would have been estactic if a kid from Cabbagetown could have been successful enough to have gotten elected superintendent of the Clayco Schools in the old days. The most I advanced to was Jr. High School assistant principal and “Lieutenant” of the Morrow-Adamson 2 Precinct. But, if you go back through the election records, you’ll see that my candidates (starting with Earnest Stroud in 1970, 1974, 1978, and 1982; Pete McQueen in 1986; and Bob Livingston in 1990) ALWAYS carried that precinct. We never to much worried about who was elected to the school board. Mr. Stroud and others would encourage some of the PTA ladies and business leaders to run for the board. School board members were so easily co-opted. Maybe we have come full circle…Ed Edmonds, Earnest Stroud, Joe Lovin, Bob Livingston, Joe Hairston, Dan Colwell, Bill Chavis, Barbara Pulliam, Gloria Duncan, and now John Thompson. I have known all but Dr. Thompson. His personality looks to be more akin to Mr. Edmonds than to any other. Mr. Edmonds was a little bitty man but was feisty as a banty rooster. He lived on Fayetteville Road across the street from Joe Lovin. He would chew out (with some very choice words) teachers and employees in a staff meeting, and then come back later and give a hug to the ones whom he chewed out. He was a good superintendent. Maybe Dr. Thompson will be good for Clayco. The school board has already given him dictatorial powers. I hope that he can dictate to Saint Mark Elgart to recommend the right thing for the Children of Clayco. Maybe he can get that Dorsey Hopson in line because it has been some of his nitwit recommendations which has the school board in the mess that it is now in. That’s what my Clayco friends tell me. Oh, we have to go now. They’re calling for our flight, and I look forward to landing where Clayco’s old Flat Rock High School (now North Clayton High) used to be located (under the runway. By the way, we saw the Rev. Jimmy Jack Bourbon in Boca last week. He says to holler at y’all. So: “Heeda Beeda Hoo Hoo!” He wants me to speak at a Revival at his Hosea Williams Memorial Church of World Peace and Reconciliation Beginning in Clayco located in the Larry O’Keefe Ponytail Shopping Center near Baker’s Bitter Pills. Dang it! I wish that I could preach like that Rev. Jeremiah Wright but I just better stick to the Prosperity Teaching. I think the Mrs. has a crush on Rev. Wright. She’s trying to get me to wear a daishiki (sp?) in the pulpit. I told her that it just doesn’t look right on a bald-headed white man. I also am too left-brained. Rev. Bourbon does have me hollering “Heeda Beeda Hoo Hoo!” I hollered that on Carroll Street in Cabbagetown and one of the ruffians jumped out his car and almost cut me with a knife. The times…they are a’changing.

Earl,

Do you mean the Rod Johnson who, according to media accounts KNOWINGLY hired an accused, (now indicted!) child sexual predator to work in ClayCo schools?

The same Rod Johnson who voted for the illegal removal of Haynes, voted for the new Supt. contract at the illegal board meeting, the same one who threw the ENTIRE system under the bus by whining to SACS?

Surely that Rod Johnson isn’t considering a run for public office?

I was suprised to see Dr. Thompson on tv. To find out he has been hired to turn around the failing school system in Clayton is a plus for Clayton. I know Dr. Thompson from the Tulsa Public School system and he was wonderful. He speaks his mind and he is not going to say anything he feels isn’t right. Some may not agree with how he says things, but the bottom line is HE WILL GET THE JOB DONE TO HIS BEST ABILITY. He can get it done!!! GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE.

OK, what about Fulton, No, those rich white folks in Alpharetta and my wife will have my hide! Let’s attack Gwinnett, No, rich and poor white folks will hate me. Let’s attack Dekalb, No, the rich white folks in North Dekalb will have my job and burn down this building. Let’s attack Clayton, Yes, Sid Chapman at CCAE had Ericka Davis and Rod Johnson has handed us the school system in a desperate attempt rid the system of MACE. Yes, that’s it, I go down to Clayton and tell them what color their school board should be, and what color their superintendent should be. I’ll hold 53,000 black kids hostage. I’m like America I’ll impose my will upon them. The white people in the county don’t like them anyway and those whites can stir up a few hundred black folks, Yes, that will work. I’ll show the world!!!

He has destroyed the school system, double dipped into the taxpayers wallets, hired his wife state representative Celeste Johnson to work in the school system and hired an indicted child rapist to work with the Super! Michelle “The Puppet” Thomas has not done anything that I know of except run for three different seats in two years. Yes, This county is being raped and pillaged by these very people! Keep up the good work voters, very soon Lee Scott, Kevin Thomas, Victor Hill and all the others will be in prison.

How could we choose a candidate of any other race if they did not even run for office?

Confrontation on yesterday between Dr. Dowel and Reverend Johnson at our historic courthouse

I am a county employee and I witnessed what I thought was going to erupt into a fight between Dr. Dowel and Reverend Johnson. The two men argued loudly with Dr. Dowel saying to the minister that he needed to get out of his face. From my vantage point, the minister and Dr. Dowel seemed to be holding hands!! The reverend was with his wife but Dowel was specific in letting him know that unless his wife restrained him-he would be seriously hurt.

The pastor came off looking like a kid. He kept running towards Dowel in a threatening manner while his wife restrained him saying: “let’s go honey.” I discovered something about that Dr. Dowel on yesterday. He has a sense of humor. The reverend was like a mad dog. Dr. Dowel kept saying to the pastor’s wife that he was just a rare old dog-(ROD) and wanted to appear bad with his barking.

Somebody in the office said that the reverend called Dr. Dowel “old man.” The Dr. was heard to say “but I look better than you, Rod-right Ms. Johnson?”

I must say that after yesterday, my respect for the Dr. went straight up. People said that he is fearless and does not play. The staff and I witnessed that on yesterday.

Haynes didn’t even produce these two contracts until Rod Johnson submitted his initial complaint in December. If Haynes was such a brave whistle blower, then why did it take four months for him to come forward. He was using the contracts as leverage over Ericka Davis. Then, he only submitted his complaint to SACS to detract from his own defeciencies as a board member. Please stop polishing his armor. Any fool can see him for what he is.

I want to point out to all the regular bloggers that Mr. Trotter alluded to this supposed “affair” between Eddie White and Gloria Duncan last week. Then, one of the other board members leaves a hand-written accusation of Eddie White’s indiscretions with an “administrator” pushing poor Eddie to the breaking point and turning in his resignation. Isn’t that rather convenient? Then, he comes on these blogs and publicly disavows Everett, Baines-Hunter, and Strong. Don’t be fooled citizen bloggers. Trotter is still very much able to manipulate this board.

As for Mr. John Thompson, I pity this man. The only thing that he was chosen for was never on his resume. Once the scandal from his past came to light, he became the shoe-in. Honestly, I am willing to bet that he is a very competent administrator and well-equipped to do an awesome job. But to the chagrin of the county, Mr. Thompson is destined to be the fall guy.

I wish I could scrape up $360 by Friday. sigh Oh well.

Bob Hartley and Red - I know it’s hard to worship when the ENEMY wants to control our thoughts by mentioning and doing hurtful things, but you have to fight through, and push past their ploys of negativity and obstacles.

Bob Hartley - There are people on this blog who will talk about what you use to do, but they do not dictate what YOU CAN DO. You are more than a conquerer, through Christ who strengthens you. The ENEMY is not your strength.

SATAN! I mean SNAKE and Billy Rip (Who ever you really are)- You have mocked Bob Hartley long enough, your flesh is still holding on to STUFF that really prohibits your walk with Christ. If I am wrong PROVE IT! Not to me, to HIM! As much as you talk about Bob Hartley and his sins remember that you stand before judgement for your own.

Snake and Billy Rip - To you I’m saying this with LOVE, “I will attempt to ignore you as the critic.” What is really on your agenda when you think and speak about Bob Hartley. Is it pleasing to your God?

    If so CONTINUE….

    Many Blessings!

Yes that’s very correct if any of these Lee/Jewel Scott and their Organized Crime Syndicate gets Elected into any Office in Clayton County, You all can KISS YOUR ASSETS GOOD BYE, which includes, property valves, jobs, everything because these Douche Bags only care about themselves and their personal and private agenda’ which is only pushing the Lee/Jewel Scott agenda to control Clayton County so they all can be rich at the citizens expense because none of them cares about us the citizens (Taxpayers).

Then if that happens we are the only ones that let this happen, so folk’s please vote well and educate yourselves on what the candidates stand for what they have done for us the citizens of this County, as anyone can tell you what they want you to here so they can just get into Elected into Office. Hell look at what happened to this Clayton County when all of the Lee/Jewel Scott people got elected the County started going down hill then and still going down the crapper.

Now we have this Dummy School Board that is and total embarrassment. One thing I can say Lee Scott and John Trotter, Victor Hill are Two Peas in a Pod they are so much alike for total Control and Power hungry they both seem to be just like Hitler.

I had some of you believing that Haynes waited four months to bring forth his opposition to Dorsey’s two contracts. You are so gullible. He actually raised h-ll about it at the special-called board meeting on August 9, 2007. He also pointed out that Dorsey, the lawyer, was making significantly more money than Dr. Duncan. WTF, Virus Data, Red, Peace & Jackson I started this crusade in an attempt to derail, screw up, and blow apart that Political BLOWHARD Bob Hartley third attempt at Public office. Bob Hartley, this Horned Toad crawls off the Lily pad every election year to try to poison this county, however, I may stop now. Because he thought that seat would be empty, but now Ms Miller the (incumbent) is returning he will automatically LOSE. The DUMMY should have run for another office, Ha,Ha. My friend told him earlier he’d might as well saving his Bootleg CD’s and sign money, but he couldn’t see the WRITING on the wall. There’s only one NEWERCOMER in the race that can derail Ms Miller and that’s Mrs. Michelle Thomas. We, the Democrats in Clayton WILL WIN. VOTE Michelle Thomas for Clerk Note: That half breed don’t have a chance.

Come Hartley and Crew join my new crusade put Michelle in office.

Question for You Know How I am.

Why would you want to derail Linda Miller? She has operated one of the most efficient departments in the county. She has over 15 years experience and she avoids controversey. So tell me why should I vote out Linda to vote in someone with no experience, no integrity and no clue as to what the clerk does?

But here is my prediction. The only way Michelle Thomas can beat Linda is to play the race card. Look for the Lee Scott controled Democratic Party to start mailing “Comparison” pieces in the mail with a picture of Linda and a picture of Michelle. Michelle won’t win. Her ties to the problems in this county run too deep.

Well here is some info on Glenn Dowell which is the same Crook running for the Clayton County School Board and also close friends to Lee/Jewel Scott and Cry Baby Victor Hill.

This is a Clayton News Daily News Article back in 2005 in this Crook for everyone’s review:

    LOCAL NEWS

    4/21/2005

    By Greg Gelpi

An audit by the U.S. Department of Labor Inspector General’s Office affirmed the audit findings of a local nonprofit educational organization.

The inspector general’s investigation reiterated that Youth Empowerment Project Inc., a Riverdale-based nonprofit, diverted funds meant for job training to pay for operational expenses.

Glenn Dowell, the executive director of Youth Empowerment Project Inc., acknowledged the investigation and said that he immediately asked the FBI for an investigation when he first learned that money was mishandled. The Atlanta Regional Commission, which provided the funds, chose to launch an independent audit instead.

The diverted funds left the group owing the Georgia Department of Labor more than $160,000, but a repayment schedule was worked out, and Youth Empowerment has been making its payments, said Sam Hall, director of communications for the state Department of Labor. Hall said that Youth Empowerment, though, has asked for a restructuring of its payment schedule.

An independent audit discovered the problem, but pointed out that no money was missing, only used for purposes it was not intended for.

Dowell said the financial problems could be “traced” to his hiring of then Chief Financial Officer Gary Furlong, who he promptly terminated.

Furlong at the time said that problems came down to politics and cash flow.

The inspector general’s report listed the following findings of the independent BKR Metcalf and Davis audit: “Of the initial $180,000 owed to the (Georgia Department of Labor), (Youth Empowerment) had paid $52,497 as of April 27 2004, resulting in misapplication of federal funds amounting to $127,503 due to the (Georgia Department of Labor), improper accounting procedures and controls and lack of supporting documentation.”

Dowell said that Youth Empowerment has “done very good for a company that is trying to rebound.” The company has reduced its staff from 26 employees to 20 since the audit, and Dowell said that Atlanta Regional Commission likely won’t give Youth Empowerment any more grants.

Among those who are no longer with Youth Empowerment is his daughter, who had written grant proposals, he said. Dowell’s pay has remained the same.

“We are going to continue to survive,” Dowell said.

Dowell said that the money issues didn’t affect the programs run by Youth Empowerment and he expects a “full house” this summer.

“As a result of these findings and contract with (Youth Empowerment) was terminated and a repayment plan was set up between (Youth Empowerment and the Georgia Department of Labor),” according to the inspector general’s report. “Originally, the (Atlanta Regional Commission) did not consider it necessary to report this to (the Office of the Inspector General) because (the Georgia Department of Labor) has been working with (Youth Empowerment) on a valid repayment plan. However, upon further discussion the (Atlanta Regional Commission) reconsidered and notified the (Office of the Inspector General).”

The funds were given by the U.S. Department of Labor to the state Department of Labor and distributed to Youth Empowerment through the Atlanta Regional Commission. Clayton County also provides funding to Youth Empowerment.

The Clayton County school system has also contracted with Youth Empowerment to tutor students at North Clayton and Forest Park middle schools. Under No Child Left Behind, the school system must provide supplemental services to students at poor performing schools, and the state Department of Education lists Youth Empowerment as an approved provider of supplemental services.

The school system paid Youth Empowerment $7,652 in January for the services, which are based on a per student amount.

Since its 1993 incorporation, Dowell estimated that Youth Empowerment has helped more than 10,000 children. That number could not be readily confirmed by the paper.

Dowell also works as a liaison specialist for Atlanta City Schools, but said that the full-time job doesn’t conflict with his part-time work at Youth Empowerment.

According to the IRS, Dowell paid himself $30,600 for working 20 hours a week in tax year 2002. He makes $31,200 currently.

To Virus Data(probably Curt Yeoman or Mary Baker in consult with Sunglasses wearing beatnix friend

This is the first time that I have gotten on the Atlanta Constitution’s Blog. Here are some facts you need to know:

  • The Clayton News Daily article concerning the Youth Empowerment Project, Inc. acknowledged that it was I who called Federal authorities concerning the problem;
  • 2.The former financial officer (who happened to be white)intentionally created the problem;

  • I immediately terminated the financial officer;

  • The problem was not like the issue of fraud and embezzlement (more than $500,000.00)that later occurred at the County’s Rainbow House;

  • The local paper embraced the cause of the Rainbow House and castigated me personally in their paper for the actions of my financial officers(go figure);

  • The publisher of the paper acknowledged in my office that the reporter who covered the story probably went too far, giving rise to sensationalism;

  • Clayton County is the only place I know where the legitimate news organ blames the victim for such actions (in specific situations);

  • Every penny that the former financial officer cost the agency has been paid (the Rainbow house has not gotten its money back;

  • Since the newspaper is not racist, the former director,Phil Kouns of the Rainbow house should also be castigated by the paper;

  • There are very few organizations and agencies in the county that have impacted youth and and families in a positive manner than the Youth Empowerment Project, Inc. The News Daily only needs to research its own archives.

  • In other matters, I always use my name when discussing issues whether it’s writing articles for newspapers or surfing the various blogs.

That being said, I was not the purveyor of the blog piece on Curt Yeoman. I have been a witness to people attending board meetings making fun of him and his reporting, but I have never been a participant. I personally think that he has the capability to become a good reporter.

Secondly Dr. John Trotter* and I are friends. We attended the same church for a number of years. He has nothing to do with my campaign and most often than not, we are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to most issues. Thirdly, I used to be close friends with Lee and Jewell Scott, along with Sheriff Hill. Although Mr. Lee is too arrogant to admit it, It was I who came up with Jewell’s popular slogan, *balancing justice with fairness. I have also been the one to tell District Attorney Scott that *Lee will ultimately become the catalyst for her defeat.

I am in the election (6th district, BOE) because I am the better candidate who can represent the interests of our children without regard to race, ethnicity or religion.

Oh, and by the way, a heated discussion did occur between Reverend Johnson and me at the historic courthouse. The guy is under a lot of pressure.

Yes, Dorsey Hopson, you have the school board looking great. Not. Maybe the Memphis school board will be so lucky for you to work your charm there too. Hey, the contract that you wrote for John Thompson is almost as good as the TWO that you wrote for yourself. David Ashe, Michelle Strong, Sandra Scott, Lois Baines-Hunter, and Yolanda Everett (of course, we expect you to listen to Dorsey since you are Ericka Davis’s bobsie twin, heh?), you guys have been getting some great advice from your lawyer, Dorsey Hopson. Not.

At least Rod Johnson has had the sense to stay away from the last few meetings. Hey, I thought that Rod promised the citizens and the world that he was stepping down. Sruggling like Hamlet: “To be or not to be…”

By the way, Bob, that is not me who keeps attacking you. It appears to be our “friend,” the one whom I labeled Talented Teacher and who lives in Henry County and teaches in DeKalb County. He apparently got back on the blog this morning under “Red” (I presume that this is one of your regular names which he “borrows”) and “anonymously anonymous** (I see that he claims that he is a “woman” — Hmm). No, he is a man, a real son of a gun. Anytime you see a vicious attack on me or Norrees Haynes or MACE, it is usually him, often trying to hide behind others’ monikers. You don’t have to be a trained linguist to note his style. I have his writing DNA down pat. Notice that he signed off with “Be blessed.” He tries to come across as so sweet and innocent. But, on these blogs, he is pretty vicious. Remember how vicious he was toward you a week or two ago under the name “t williams”? Go back and see how he has written some of the most degrading things about Norreese and me and MACE under the same name. He’s admitted to me that he is “t williams” (on this site), “BABY” under the old News-Daily site (now shut down) and another name on a teachers’ website. But, I see him all over the board causing confusion. He’s a public figure in many respects (he’s taken two of his administrators to Court for simple battery but lost both times; the Judge dismissed the charges; he also sued the Dekalb County School System, but, again, this was dismissed). He formerly was a MACE member. I think that we picketed for him on seven occasions through the years (at four different schools), intervened on countless occasions, wrote letters for him, and represented him in grievances. I am patient and indulgent, especially when it comes to teachers. Sometimes, however, my cup runneth over. Bob, you are a good man, and I certainly wish you no ill will. Now, that petition that you started against one of the board members probably riled up her husband. He may be prowling this board. I think you know that if I have something to say against you, I will say it to your face. I think that this is my reputation. Gotta run. Y’all have fun. John.

    Mr. Trotter,

This is twice now that you have accused me of being “talented teacher” (whoever the he!! that is). I have changed my moniker only once. I previously posted as “S”. I told you then that I am an angry Clayton resident and mother of two. I’ve also at least hinted that I am a state worker. Someone did use my “anonymously anonymous” moniker yesterday and posted some things that I would surely never say. I did however post the rude comment to VirusData yesterday afternoon. There was no excuse for it. When I read it again this morning, I realized how much I sounded like a jerk and posted an apology. “Be blessed” is a statement that any Christian would use. Sir, I’ve been posting here for several weeks.

I have read your posts carefully and followed the reports of the goings-on of the school board. The conclusions that I have drawn are mine, and have not been giving to me by anyone else. At this point, my curiosity is piqued in regard to who talented teacher is, but mainly I just want to know who has associated with you so that I can be sure not to vote for them.

Thank you and have a good day!

Stephans, Abdul Salaam, Starr, Bray, et al are no longer welcome or are viable candidates in this County. Having slept with dogs, either by commission or ommission, you and all the others have marked yoursevles as damaged goods, tainted, and flea-ridden.

The voters of this County will no longer tolerate it’s Citizens to be held hostage by the actions of a Kabal that has no other intention but profiteering from the teat of the Citizens.

The leopard doesn’t change it’s spots. I will not speculate whats in your heart today and I am not responsible to guess. I know that the time for responsible leadership has arrived and you are no longer in the mix.

The mentioning of the former Financial Officer (who happened to be white) has no bearing on any issue and therefore the race mentioned should be moot. Racially divisive polictics in this County is through as well. We The People will be independant thinkers, will research the candidates, will ask them the tough questions as to their past deeds, accomplishments and associations and when the truth is spun for purposes of elective office, they will be exposed. research is currently being conducted not only on you but Araba as well. The time is over, it’s gone. This County will no longer suffer shadowy connections and backroom deals.

Still avoiding the meds, Mr. Trotter?

As far as you not speaking about your own children, sir, it was only a couple of weeks ago, whilst attempting to derail Shannon, our local critical thinking professor, that you mentioned your daughter graduated from Lovejoy High school, and dining with the president or some such crap! I actually fibbed just a bit. I don’t pay that much attention to your blogs. I usually just skim them to get an idea of what you will be up to next.

Sir, you have some serious issues. Pathological lying, illusions of grandeur, and as most on this blog suspect, disassociative disorder. Please get some help.

    Dear Friends

After much thought and prayer, I have decided to withdraw from the Clerk of Court race. The only reason I entered the race in the first place was because I was convinced Linda Miller was going to retire. I have the utmost respect for Linda Miller and as a resident, appreciate the job she has done. Her 15+ years experience in the Clerks office is what our county needs. She has served us well.

I did not run just to be running for office. For those of you who know me, I am passionate about improving our quality of life and know I have dedicated many years to taking on issues, sometimes controversial, that will impact citizens of Clayton County in a positive manner.

We have been, and will continue to be, well served under Mrs. Miller’s expertise in the Clerk of Court department. My decision is based solely on whats best for the residents of Clayton County.

I urge those of you who supported me, give your prayers, support and financial contributions to Linda Miller’s campaign.

    Thank you Bob Hartley

Well I would like to know why Lee Scott has a Office inside the Clayton County DA Office? This is the misuse of Clayton County property and Clayton County Resources, because as it seems Lee Scott is using said office and personal for his Campaign for the Chairman’s seat.

And that the citizen’s (Taxpayers) of Clayton County is paying for this as they continue to waste our Tax Money for their personal agendas.

As all the rest of the Lee/Jewel Scott bought and paid Elected Officials has a done this same thing and still continues too wasting our tax money that’s all these Dummy’s are about.

If Lee Scott needed Office space he could have used his own building that he and his wife owns the Tara Center on Tara Blvd.

Hum I guess once a Crook always one as all these people do not care about us the citizens/children of Clayton County as they are always self serving as their actions has shown that fact in the last past 4 years.

These so called Elected Officials that is paid and bought by Lee/Jewel Scott has done nothing for this county but to steal our tax money and waste it for their personal agendas.

This News Daily News Article from yesterday shows some of that fact below:

District attorney, husband sued for $1 billion

    By Daniel Silliman

    dsilliman@news-daily.com

Clayton County District Attorney Jewel Scott and her husband, candidate for the County Commission Chairman’s seat, Lee Scott, are being sued for more than $1 billion.

Earl Randall, a candidate for the chairmanship, who used to work as the district attorney’s chief of staff, filed the law suit on Monday afternoon, alleging he was fired from his job in an act of political retaliation and suppression.

Randall was fired right before Christmas. Jewel Scott reportedly said he was campaigning while on the job, but Randall maintains he was fired because he was running against Lee Scott in the 2008 election.

“Within days of filing his Declaration of Intent [to run for county chairman], Randall learned that Lee Scott was very angry,” according to the suit. “Lee Scott was observed slamming his fist into a table at Fridays Restaurant while eating lunch with Jewel Scott and several employees of the CCDA. Lee Scott was heard screaming at Jewel Scott that the CCDA was his house and he ran his house. He paid $250,000 for Jewel Scott’s election.”

According to the lawsuit, written by William J. Atkins, Randall’s attorney, Randall told Jewel Scott that he was running before Lee Scott decided to run, and she supported the decision, saying she didn’t want her husband in the race and Randall would be an ally if he could beat incumbent chairman, Eldrin Bell. Things changed, Atkins wrote, when Lee Scott decided he was going to run against Bell, even though he had run and lost in 2004.

“Lee Scott threatened that if Randall did not get out of the race, then Randall was his enemy and he destroys his enemies,” according to the suit. “Lee Scott turned to Jewel Scott and asked her to fire Randall before candidate qualifying … Lee Scott stated, ‘I want him fired now.’”

Candidate qualifying for the upcoming primary began on Monday, the same day the suit was filed. Both Lee Scott and Randall have qualified to run for county chairman.

Jewel Scott described the lawsuit as “frivolous.”

She declined to comment any further on the matter Tuesday, saying she had not been served any papers.

Lee Scott said there was “no way he could make any comment.”

Randall maintains his firing was politically motivated and violated his civil rights to “freely engage in political expression,” and that Lee Scott, a private citizen, exercised “undue influence” over the district attorney’s office and caused Randall’s termination.

Since the firing, the 50-year-old Randall said he has been unable to find employment, because of the firing and has been working part-time as a security officer and substitute teacher. He has, according to the suit, had to cancel a number of campaign functions because he’s struggling to find work.

According to the lawsuit, Randall has lost wages of about $30,000, suffered “other economic damages” of more than $20,000.

The Scotts’ actions were “willful, deliberate, and malicious, thereby entitling Randall to an award of punitive damages” of more than $1 billion, according to the suit.

The attorney representing Randall has previously battled the district attorney and her husband. Atkins represented Donald Hood, the former director of the county’s maintenance department, who was charged with stealing an American flag intended for the memorial of a fallen police officer.

In that case, Atkins alleged the district attorney’s office was prosecuting — and not prosecuting — cases based on political considerations. Atkins accused the district attorney of making up the charges against Hood in an attempt to gain information that would be helpful in going after political rivals. Jewel Scott responded with allegations Hood had carried out a sustained campaign of graft and threatened to take away his retirement benefits.

Hood killed himself on Feb. 29.

In the weeks following his death, both Jewel Scott and Atkins accused each other of pushing the 62-year-old to the point of suicide.

With this lawsuit, Atkins repeats his central theme in attacking Jewel Scott, saying her office has been corrupted by politics.

The case is scheduled to be heard by Superior Court Judge Deborah Benefield, and the file was in her office on Tuesday morning.

Ms. Miller is a fine and acceptable candidate for office. There was speculation as to her candidacy and now it is apparent. I want to Thank You for your concern to the County and your fellow neighbors. You are certainly an individual to respect and emulate. It is clear that you will continue to serve citizens in a volunteer capacity in the future as you have done in the past. Again, Thank You and Best Regards!!!

I hope Bob will continue to seek public service to serve us Citizens in this County in the near future.

Will wonders ever cease? Maureen Downey writes an editorial about the mess that is the ClayCo school system and doesn’t even allude to, much less blame, Haynes, Trotter, or MACE.

People are finally starting to see that they are not “the problem.” In fact Haynes, while on the board, did his level best to EXPOSE the problems (the land deal, the “Pulliam Patronage Plan,” the double dipping of Celeste Johnson, Dorsey Hopson’s illegal contract, Rod Johnson KNOWINGLY hiring an accused, now indicted, child molester; the list is endless, and it all happened under a board with a **GAE majority voting bloc)

Norreese Haynes fought for, and is still fighting for, open and honest governance on this school board. But people have been so “indoctrinated” by the status quo to believe that MACE is “the problem” that folks didn’t want to listen to Norreese.

And now the bill has come due: $285,000.00…for a part time gig…and the meter’s still running.

    Are you happy yet?

Demand the resignation of Principle Adams and Mr Manning by calling the Office of Dr. Thompson at 770-473-2712 and calling the offices of Mundy’s Mill High School 678-817-3000

To be tolerant of this abhorant conduct is no longer acceptable in this community.**

A Clayton County magistrate threw out Wednesday an arrest application sought for two top educators for failing to report suspected child abuse.

Magistrate Richard Brown said there was not enough probable cause to arrest Mundy’s Mill High School Principal Priscilla Anne Adams and Assistant Superintendent Derrick Manning following a hearing.

Clayton police Detective Joanne Southerland sought the warrant because the two were aware that a female student, 15, was videotaped having sex with two other students, 15 and 16. The three skipped school March 21 and engaged in the sex acts at a Jonesboro home, Southerland testified.

Southerland testified that the two boys, both juveniles, said the videotape had been seen by “everyone” at Mundy’s Mill.

“This is having a horrific effect on this victim,” Southerland said on the stand. “The tape memorializes the abuse and the girl is re-victimized.”

The two male students were charged with child molestation, statutory rape, solicitation for sodomy, distribution of child pornography and with being in a gang.

School officials notified the girl’s parents four days after finding out about the tape, Southerland said. The parents, who cannot be identified because their daughter is an alleged victim of a sex assault, demanded that Adams “do something,” Southerland said.

“The parents became extremely upset and her dad started having chest pains and went to the doctor,” Southerland said. “Ms. Adams said she was not going to do anything because the boys told her the sex was consensual.”

But the girl’s parents said the sex was not consensual. They were upset that a prosecutor was not provided by the district attorney’s office to help Southerland with the hearing.

Clayton Executive Assistant District Attorney John Turner said the office lacks the manpower to provide such assistance.

“It’s a valid question but the simple answer is we just don’t provide prosecutors for pre-issuance hearings,” Turner said. “We don’t have the manpower.”

The parents have the option to ask the district attorney’s office to present the charge to a grand jury.

Hey, Fake Pious One, Thou holy one who chastizes others about “race,” don’t forget that I had to chastize you about using the “N word.” (Don’t make me go into details and out you, OK?) Yes, it is these effete and elite liberals who pontificate about race but whose real everyday actions demonstrate their real mindsets. I will mention this about my youngest son (and I really do not like to talk about my children or others’ children on a blog): He is a handsome, polite, and popular (in these characteristics, different from his father) kid at his middle school in Fayette County (yes, his mother and I are divorced, and I still live in Clayton County). A little white girl texted him and called him the “N word.” His mother was very upset and a mini-crisis developed when the Black students found out what my youngest child was called. I tried to counsel him not to overreact, but to reply that no person should be put down because who their parents are. I told him that he needs to rise about such and try to “be like Obama.” I mentioned Obama because I knew that he could relate to him. Norreese was standing in the reception room of our office near me when I was talking to my Youngest. Norreese tried to communicate to him that this was a “normal” thing for African Americans. (Both of my sons are crazy about “Mr. Norreese” — as they call him.) I got choked up and had to leave the room.

I’ve sat here after reading all the comments and catching up on the local news, and three times I’ve written something and erased it. There’s honestly very little to say at this point. Thompson enters the county with his hands tied behind his back; public opinion is against him from the start (not necessarily without good reason), and that board… good grief.

To be charitable, even if they aren’t calling illegal meetings, they certainly aren’t doing a good job defending those meetings to the public… they haven’t defended the hiring of Thompson over the public objections of SACS or the state liaisons… they haven’t explained much of anything.

There seems to be very little residents can do at this stage. My grandmother, who still lives in the Riverdale home in which my mother grew up, has been trying to sell for years. She’ll never get the appropriate value for the property, and that’s a shame. I know she isn’t alone. My parents moved to Henry when I was still in high school back in the early 90s (I was able to continue at LHS because my mother taught in Clayton County), and while I don’t philosophically agree with “white flight,” I can’t deny that their house has increased in value while my grandmother’s has lost more than 2/3 of its value.

Seems to me that some of this is inevitable. Some people are going to get very angry at what I’m about to say, and I’m okay with that.

The city of Atlanta certainly suffered growing pains during the movement away from a “good ol’ boy” system of white male “rule” as minorities began to get power.

The “good ol’ boys” had their faults. There was a certain amount of corruption and subtle nepotism that goes along with a system like that; hiring was based on “feelings” that so-and-so was a “good guy,” meaning the guy looked like them, had a similar education, and played golf with a decent handicap. It’s not right to base hiring decisions on those kinds of criteria, but it did produce an efficient system where the people running it understood and mentored each other. Ultimately, that kind of system has to go—and that’s true on a national level as well as right here locally.

So an influx of minorities threw out the good ol’ boys. This is tricky, because a lot of the good ol’ boys, whatever else they are, have had the education and mentoring to be good at their jobs. Nonetheless, the new guard—who hasn’t had the benefit of the mentoring or the on-the-job education or the informal golf sessions where you learn the unspoken parts of the jobs—comes in and the stage is set for a clash.

You get your Victor Hill in, and he rather awkwardly cleans out the good ol’ boy system—but he does it by ignoring civil service conventions and protections, and voila, a giant lawsuit occurs that probably baffled the man. You get your new school board in, and they have the best of intentions but not the best of experience, education, and again, the mentoring that enables them to know the Rules of Order (or, sometimes, the rules of law!).

New folks come in from outside the system, but they don’t understand the system in the way the old guard did. They chafe against the rules, because they don’t fully understand why the rules are there. They think that now they’ve been elected, they can do whatever they want. Public office just doesn’t work that way, though.

The new guard isn’t totally off-the-hook. By all accounts, the board has been offered (and in some cases has even had) training in the responsibilities of board members—but they haven’t always risen to that challenge.

In addition, the good ol’ boys often enriched themselves from the public trough, so to speak, and the new guard wants a piece of that, too. The problem is that the good ol’ boys knew how to hide their tracks and handle those things in private smoky rooms (a stereotype rooted in truth)… and the new guard doesn’t know the routine, how to hide their shady dealings and avoid any appearance of graft or incompetence.

It’s tough. This minefield is loaded with racial, class, and generational bombs.

Unfortunately, Clayton’s kids are getting hurt because folks are stepping on those mines.

I too, am a white woman and I am considering voting for Dowell. I first learned about him when he used to organize Clayton County’s annual anti-crime parades which were held in October. Well we all should try to get our Elected Official up in the State House to change the law on that all School Board Superintendent’s should be Elected into Office and not appoint, because when you have a School Board like we have here in Clayton County that is so “dysfunctional“ and “Fatally Flawed” that can not make even the rational basic decisions for our kids because they all are self serving Idiots.

Like hiring John Thompson with the terms in his contract for $285.000 A year, $2000.00 a mouth on living expenses, chuffer and maybe even a bodyguard.

Why does all most every Elected Official’s ( DA and her husband, Leslie Miller Terry, and Sheriff cry baby Victor Hill) here in Clayton County has to have bodyguards? If they was doing their jobs honestly and representing us citizens like they was Elected to do.

I truly believe that Superintendent John Thompson is just another Dead beat stealing our tax dollars because I also feel he took avenge of the chaos our School System is in because of the Dummies we have sitting on the School Board that can not make any type of fair or good decisions at all, because they all are self serving Dummies.

My question to Superintendent John Thompson would be on why did he come here? And the second question would be to the School Board why on earth would you hire someone like this that is already tainted with lot of baggage from another States School System?

But here is more info on this so called Superintendent John Thompson below:

    Quote

Thompson is just another flim flam added to this county’s existing troubles. It’s obvious that the existing school board wants someone who also plays their under handed “How To Fleece The Tax Payers” game.

Quote On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Dr. John Thompson said raising real estate taxes in the city is “inevitable.”

The proposed increase calls for a 3 mill hike over the next two years, and Thompson says increasing costs could lead to more schools being closed.

A Team 4 investigation finds local communities spending millions of dollars on new high school stadiums. Some of these new stadiums are creating controversy.

We found stadiums with amenities you’d expect to see at colleges or the NFL. Even in Pittsburgh, where they’re closing schools and raising taxes, millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent on stadiums.

That is how much the district spent from Feb. 10 to June 30, 2005 on a temporary acting superintendent to cover the final 4.5 months of Thompson’s five-year contract. Thompson himself received a severance payment of $150,165, consisting of salary and retirement contributions through the end of his contract, as well as unused sick, vacation, and personal days.

The district attributed Thompson’s termination to a lack of improvement in student achievement, the district’s financial condition, and concerns about the superintendent’s management and leadership skills. He was relieved of his duties in February 2005 based on a Jan. 26, 2005 resolution for termination issued by the board.

Just like Rev Wright, moving in a mult-million dollar retirement home in an all white golf community and living among the people he has preached against many years. If Wright really loved his black brothers and sisters the way he claims why dont he want to live among them instead of rich white folks. Simple ,Rev Wright is a self serving Con-man. Rev Wright is living a lie. Preaches one thing and does another. I would suggest looking up the meaning of two words, “Foist” and “Charlatan” then think about Rev Wright.

People keep calling me and emailing me. The Mrs. and I are already back here in “the Venus of the South,” Ft. Liqourdale. Abe and Eli and I are going snook fishing tonight. Hey, I hear that Rod Johnson is planning the classic switheroo — he runs for his wife Celeste’s seat, and she runs for his seat on the Clayco School Board. Hmm. Now, we see why Rev. Rod keeps warming his seat on the school board. Wait! Another Alert on my Blackberry (the Mrs. hates this gadget): Celeste finally qualified at the Capitol today. I thought for a minute that some of the good ole boys up in Clayco were going to call out HooRay to run again. Maybe ole HooRay might want to run for David’s seat. Hey, this is fun down here. Gettin’ the updates on my Blackberry. Abe and Eli are now getting together a personal wager (not a full Condo Gambling Pool) on whether David Ashe draws an opponent. I hear that he was looking for me when he and his Mrs. were visiting the Gold Coast last summer. David, I am snook fishing tonight, and I ain’t recruited a single soul to run for anything. It’s more fun watching. But, I miss the days of Lee Howell because no one seems to report anything about who has qualified to run in the News Daily. Another Alert: Gail Buckner (a Mike Glanton associate), Artansa Snell (a Wade Starr associate), and Damont Davis (an Eldrin Bell) associate) have qualified to run against Senator Gail Davenport. The Final Alert for today: We hear that Celeste did go to the Courthouse to file for the Clerk’s race but backed out. Sometimes even the husbands can’t talk their wives into running for another seat. So, does Rod really resign or run for Clerk himself. Now, y’all leave Abe, Eli, and me alone. We’re getting ready to do some fishing!

I searched articles at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Make up your own mind. “To be sure, the former superintendent, Dr. John Thompson, had the conventional credentials and a gift of communicating with children, but he ended up not being able to take the district to a higher level.” “..Thompson’s ill-advised renovation of his office while the school district is in dire financial straits..” “The Pittsburgh Public Schools are facing a “most dire” budget situation that includes a shortfall expected to reach $32 million by the end of 2006, …according to new Superintendent Mark Roosevelt …Without substantial new revenue, over the next two years we are looking at significant teacher and program reductions along with other actions that will inevitably affect what we can offer our students,” his memo said. “..firing the superintendent who proposed a 22 percent tax increase …He was fired because any superintendent who would propose such a tax hike, only four years after raising taxes more than 20 percent…Thompson said last November, “I looked at it and prayed over it and almost definitely we will have to have some kind of [property] tax increase over the next three years.. he nonetheless seemed blind to how high school taxes already are. He told me a few years ago taxes weren’t high and it’s a privilege to pay them…” “…But at the same time, he asked the district to buy a new Lincoln Towne Car for his use, his credit card was confiscated by the board, and his deputy was sued for misuse of school funds…and Thompson’s response to teachers’ dreadful test scores — blaming computer problems and faulty tests..” “…Buying out Thompson’s contract is a huge waste
Is the Pittsburgh school board nuts? Hasn’t it learned anything from (a previous) controversial and costly buyout…? What do the board members think they are going to accomplish by buying out the last five months of Superintendent John Thompson’s contract except waste more taxpayer money…”

There’s pros and cons on that stance. Biggest thing against it is you get: the present school board types; Jewel Scott types; and Lil Napoleon Victor Hill types. Could someone please tell me why we need school boards anyway? A government education is a government education. It only serves to create loyal subjects of the imperial federal government anyway. Why do we even bother with any illusion of local control? Why don’t we just save some paper and not even print the ballots any more? (oh sure, we cast electronic ballots now, but check out the ton of paper generated by an election.) We could do our part to save the earth and get on the green bandwagon and stop printing campaign propaganda that will only ends up in our landfills.

Voting for a school board is an exercise in futility.

You are right. It’s all ran through Trotter first. Along the same lines, having to endure the nightmare in listening to Sandra Scott and Baines-Hunter speak anything other than english is painful and suffering - written speeches or not. If she’s refusing to not resign like those in her district have asked, PLEASE at least not speak in public. It’s embarrassing and a disgrace having others see that.

Read the writing on the wall - if the governer comes in and appoints some of his republican good ole boys to run this school district, he gets his hands on the half billion dollar budget. Which means he can give more of the good ole boys county contracts.

Let’s see now. We have a fellow who calls Norreese a “little monkey.” I think that this confirms what I said yesterday about having to chastize him for using the “N word” at the MACE office. (He no longer is a MACE member nor does he do any work for MACE.) He does, however, still teach children in DeKalb County. He also was the “BABY” personality on the old News-Daily forum, and finally admitted in writing (after denying for a long time) that he was “BABY.” This “BABY” was most vicious and called Norreese “Sped” (short for Special Education). Norreese Haynes has more integrity in his little finger than this gentleman has in his whole body. Norreese has the guts to even publicly state (at board meetings and in front of the media) that he was labeled “Behavior Disorder” because of his temper, and he always says that if he had not had good educators who disciplined him (and paddled him), he would have probably ended up in the State Pen. And, I notice that this gentleman called me a “pathological liar” yesterday. Coming from him (who is indeed a liar), this is a compliment. I have many faults, but I think that anyone who has had dealings with me will tell you that one of my faults is telling the harsh truth. “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4.16). I am trying to learn to be more diplomatic, and it is a on-going process. No, this fellow apparently became very upset about a year and a half ago when I named Norreese Haynes as the Number Two guy at MACE. (I travel abroad some, and we also simply needed a backup plan in case something happens to me. God forbid.) I see great leadership skills in Norreese Haynes, and he is intrepid, and these are the characteristics which you have to have at MACE. (I taught and coached Norreese over 25 years ago at Jonesboro Jr. High School. I am very proud of his steady accomplishments as a person.) This other fellow was bucking to be Number Two and even had a conversation with me about it. If I had named him, then he probably would not have had anyone to work for him. Looking at his many bitter postings (in quick succession) under many names, you can see why. It is a shame because he is so talented.

Bob, I see that you bowed out because Linda Miller is running again. You are a good man, and there will be other opportunities for you in the future. I don’t believe that I have ever said one unkind thing about you on this blog. I did say that I talked you into the “Brother” sign. We still laugh about that. I still love that sign! It was a pretty sign. Some people are perhaps too sensitive, but I don’t know. Now, your “new fan” is the fellow (whose name I am currently and charitably refraining from mentioning, although he is a public figure) about whom I have been talking. He had been the one who has unleashed so much negative stuff on you, possibly starting the “bootleg CDs” talk. He has admitted to me in person and in writing that one of his many personalities on this blog and other blogs is “t williams”. He eviscerated you a while back as “t willliams”. He eviscerated David Barton on the “Boot” blog under the name of “Cranberries”. I get blamed for all of this mess. Check out how “t williams” also has constantly eviscerated Norreese and me (today calling Norreese a “little monkey”). Now, about “Attention: Clayton Parents”: I do indeed know this gentleman. He is a good-hearted person. He is a teacher. He and I do not agree on all matters of which he writes, and I am sure that he does not always agree with me also. Sorry, conspiracy fans, but John Trotter is not “Clayton Parents”. My good buddies are The Very Most Reprobate Reverend Jimmy Jack Bourbon, Earl, Elvis, Ned in the First Reader, and others.

Shannon, I enjoyed your post yesterday. It was thoughtful, insightful, and gutsy. Sometimes it is dangerous saying what you really believe is the truth. Keep posting. I look forward to reading more. You do lend a historical perspective about the county.

This has been a most enjoyable Qualifying Season because I did not sweat one bit. I did not recruit a single person to run for anything. I will not feel any obligation to help anyone. I will spend as much time as possible with my children. We hope to travel a bit.

We will see how the school board mess pans out. Mark Elgart, in my opinion, has created a mess in this county. Children ought not be penalized if the adults are perhaps not the sharpest knives in the drawer when it comes to knowing how to play the game with SACS, and it is indeed a game because SACS is essentially a self-evaluating process. Most people in education know that it is really a game you have to play. But, when the media gets involved, the game is now for higher stakes, and the average board member cannot play at that level. The Clayton board members have certainly and richly demonstrated that they do not know how to play this game. They have apparently turned the whole process over to Dorsey Hopson, and he, in my lowly opinion, has messed this thing up in a royal fashion.

When people start throwing mud and slander while hiding behind the computer, I’m like a duck in water. It just rolls off my back.

I focus on what we need to do as citizens to fix the problems facing us. The only reason I got in that race in the first place is because I thought Linda was retiring and if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it. It is in the best interest of all citizens to retain Linda. I spoke with her and pledged my support to her efforts.

Ha!! I just posted that to get a rise out of you. But, yet again, I’ve told you before, I am not now, nor have I ever been a teacher. Each time I’ve said the same thing. I am a tax-payer and mother of a CCPS student. God has blessed me by giving me the opportunity to send her to private school on scholarship for the 2009-2010 school year. I hope that thereafter the county will have acquired some much better leadership. I had considered qualifying for BOE, but I am a single mother, and did not have the money to throw at it or the time to acquire the funds. I am planning on doing some thorough research on the candidates for my district and a major deciding fact will be the level of association that they have with you. Sir, I believe that your motives weigh far heavier towards serving yourself than the general public.

And for those that like to wag their fingers at Clayton voters, there are many that did not reside in this county in the last election year. Being that an honest person is hard to find in politics, I’m certain that the current idiots-in-charge were actually the lesser of two evils. Be a little kinder!

I think it would be wise for all of us to focus on solutions and action points while working together to fix the problems we as citizens face. I try to be a uniter and not a divider. I may not agree with someones views but if we agree to save our county then we can work together. It’s part of his mental illness. He can’t handle that people disagree or possibly even dislike him that he doesn’t know by name or face. He believes he recognizes attributes in us that resemble people who have somehow inflicted some emotional wound. He will refuse to accept the truth. That the public has a low opinion of his political practices.

This reminds me of an old adage “The older I grow the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom.” In the case of Eddie White we see that’s not true. He said, “my constituents didn’t want me to vote for Dr. Thompson”, yet we all know his constituents are few; namely Truett Cathy, Mark Elgart, Bostic, Bryant, Megan Metticuti Chamber of Commerce and the like hiding in the wake, all non-residents of this County. Now, that’s unethical and self-serving; the aforementioned group sounds like a business interest to me. Yet, some whites say he has loyalty and integrity; to whom a population of 270,000 people and 53,000 children mostly Black or Chic-fil-A, SACS and the AJC? Here another wise saying, “There is a paradox in pride: it makes some men ridiculous, but prevents others from becoming so”; admit it Mr. White; you’re and ole Uncle Tom. Clayton County School System is a “Cash Cow” and the aforementioned groups don’t want to let go of its tail. This group is still running a Media Blitz to try to misinform, mislead, delude, and lead astray a consensus. This effort may have infuriated a few of the UNWISE. Let me spew some wisdom here, “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it. Their thinking is to Highjack 53,000 black kids to beat their parents into submission, conversely, their thinking was “FATALLY FLAWED” This group was trying to poison the Black community on the idea of hiring a Black man superintendent and if you honestly assess it; is trying to over throw the government. The voting people of the county put these board members in office, in spite of this; the abovementioned group is attempting to “Disenfranchise” the voters. We, the people of this county know that the real crooks on the board have already purged themselves off the board for lack of delivering the school system to this group. This county is strong in the tradition of rallying around its own; they’ve lived the others tyranny. If it was weak it would have fallen for Mr. Eddie White insistence on bringing in Dan Colwell or Bob Livingston as superintendent, (The Great White Hopes), likewise, if we had, we’d have accreditation already; that’s also called “Beat Them Negroes into Submission”. Finally, this county’s majority knows this whole effort by the whites and its media is about MONEY and POWER, none of which those poor little Black Folk on the board have, yet we know the black folk want us to know the financial TRUTH of this matter which will shine Light into this Dark Hole. Bostic and Bryant said they have resigned, however, now Bostic (the Oreo), you know the Oreo cookie (Black outside/White inside) stay on for the financial audit; they don’t want the TRUTH told. Their effort is in essence to COVERUP not UNCOVER; I call that effort “DISFUNCTIONAL”. Now, we really know who they’re working for. This brings me back to another phase; “We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.” While I’m at it let me sprinkle more wisdom on you, “No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. “He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master”. “The wise man learns more from the fool than the fool learns from the wise man.”The well-bred contradict other people. The wise contradict themselves.” “I bet now this group is thinking, “A word to the wise is infuriating.”

Ok- Am I the only one who has a “problem” with this picture…this is a high school reportedly, and there are “apples” on the wall and the word wall has 8 “word apples”? The resolution was so bad I couldn’t discern the words….and the temperature was a wonderful 70 degrees outside..and students are wearing coats designed for 30 degree weather???? I know the superintendent received a “chilly reception” but come on….Let’s hope he encourages “hopping” into age appropriate wall themes….. Unfortunately, Daphne Walker is running unopposed so she is automatically in there.

Are you sure about Wole Ralph? He seems to be the only one challenging Eldrin Bell in Commission meetings & seems to do his job well.

    www.claytonmspaparazzi.com

As I found in each category in the photos section if there is more than 10 pages, all you have to do it hit page 10 and the hit the next button and it was carry you to the 11th page and higher.

And I also found that if you click on any photo 1 time it will enlarge some and then you will need to click on the photo for the 2nd time as it will be magnified or enlarged so you can read the documents.

This Site has some creditable information on it on some of these candidates that’s put themselves into the 2008 Elections.

    The Real

All you White folk get on this Blog and try to tell BLACKS how to vote. You claim the county is in the shape it’s in now because of Voting Along Racial Lines. The majority of Blacks knows that there are Whites and Black white sympathizers that got us and have this county in this shape. The Whites always have Front Negroes in this type situation. It’s like having that Uncle Tom Rev Rod Johnson out front taking the school system to that White man Elgart at SACS, while whites hid in the background. These same Whites Folks telling Negroes don’t Vote Along Racial Lines in the Local election, but they themselves WILL Vote Along Racial Lines in the General Election against OBAMA. The Whites would rather see McCain in office and thousands more US troops killed than put a Negro in as US President. Well white folk commenting on this Blog, here a bit of advice. THE MAJORITY VOTING BLACKS in this county don’t read this Blog or the boot-em site! You’ll be better served opening up The BEACH facilities to hold FREE outdoor concerts with well known Black Artists, serving FREE Watermelon and Pork Ribs to get your word out to Not Vote Along Racial Lines verses using these Forums. Ha Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!!

NOTE: However, most blacks will still see you COMING!

Then you Whites will say that kind of THINKING is what got the county in this shape. Well White people; your kind of THINKING had me in Slavery for 400 years. White THINKING created the HOUSE NEGRO vs. FIELD NEGRO Syndrome. You still have Outhouse Negroes like Red, Johnson and ole county tom caught up in the syndrome. An old colored poet once said; Common-sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

    EXPERIENCE

Progress comes from the intelligent use of experience.

    MARRIAGE

“Man’s best possession is a sympathetic wife.”

“It is not the lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”

“The whole purpose of a husband and wife is that when hard times knock at the door you should be able to embrace each other.”

“I’m not upset about my divorce. I’m only upset I’m not a widow.”

“I never knew what real happiness was until I got married, and by then it was too late.”

“If variety is the spice of life, marriage is the big can of leftover Spam.”

“Behind every successful man is a woman, behind her is his wife.”

“Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is conversation.”

“I know you’ve been married to the same woman for 69 years. That is marvelous. It must be very inexpensive.”

    GOVERNMENT

“So long as governments set the example of killing their enemies, private individuals will occasionally kill theirs.” The same can be said about Clayton’s BOE. One member Riff Raff Rev Rod Johnson ran to SACS started an investigation to DESTROY him own children. That government for you, now the Black citizens want DESTROY everyone else except Riff Raff Rev Rod Johnson. What Black Fools! However, just the old goes, “Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed.”

Benjamin Franklin once said; “There is no kind of dishonesty into which otherwise good people more easily and frequently fall than that of defrauding the government.”

“If ever time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced Mandingo Warriors to prevent its ruin.”

“In the councils of school board government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the embedded county corruption complex, etc. CCAE, MACE, GAE.”

    SUCCESS

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually fear you will make one.”

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.”

“Some succeed by what they know; some by what they do; and a few by what they are.”

“It is only by doing things others have not that one can advance.”

“Men are born to succeed, not fail.”

“Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed.”

“There is no failure except in no longer trying.”

“The line between failure and success is so fine that we hardly know when we pass it; so fine that we are often on the line and do not know it.”

    MOTIVATION & GOAL

“Adversity is the state in which man mostly easily becomes acquainted with himself, being especially free of admirers then.”

“Obstacles do not exist to be surrendered to, but only to be broken.”

    MORAL

“Many a man’s reputation would not know his own character if they met on the street.”

“If Black men and women will not act for themselves, what will they do when the benefit of their effort is for all Black folk?”

    TALKING

“He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.”

    PRIDE

Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man.

For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being pleased by better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions, even on important subjects, which I once thought right but found to be otherwise.
