What do you think about Clayton schools?

The Clayton County school system faces the possible loss of accreditation, unless it meets mandates set by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

There are calls for the resignation of the school board. The district is also the focus a grand jury investigation into whether the school board committed any crimes that put it at risk of losing accreditation.

SACS has given the district until Sept. 1 to get its act together.

Tell us what you think about the latest developments with Clayton County schools.

Considering the amount of time that has passed since the problems began to be recognized and the lack of action on the part of the board, they ALL should resign immediately. Clearly, this Board cannot be effective and act in the best interests of the community. Each board member continues to think they are the only voice of reason and the one who will help turn this around. Every one of them seems unable to recognize one of the major findings of the report which is that none of them have the authority to act individually, their power is derived as a board. None of them can seem to effectively participate under those conditions.

It is absolutely appalling what they have let occur regarding performance of the school system and it’s budget. If it is determined that criminal charges cannot be brought against them, then the parents should initiate a class action lawsuit against each and every one of those board members individually. I absolutely mean that they should be held individually responsible - not as a governmental board. That would only be unfair to the county. These board members should have to pay some retribution for not owning up to their elected rsponsibilities. Each one should have been there for the greater good.

Unfortunately, this is a microcosm of what happens in so many other areas of our government - both state and national —-> Elected officials out for their own personal gain and not living up to the trust placed in them by their electorate. I’m not recommending that this group be punished or even made an example for all the governmental sins, but it has to stop somewhere and people have to take some personal responsibiilty and THAT should begin now.

And since when should the government or any employer pay for a hotel and dinner when your personal car breaks down? It doesn’t matter if it’s for company business or not - they were out of town. It’s the same as it breaking down going to work or to a different office for the day. That takes some nerve to expect the county to pay for that. Sorry, but that’s when I had to stop even reading the report. It was too much.

I agree with you pjg. However, I think you need to include Dr. John Trotter in that class action suit. He’s one of the people throwing logs and matches on this fire along with many other fires he tries to create.

All counties have trouble they just put us first, another thing tell Fayette to keep there darling kids out of our county buying drugs from the kids that are doing wrong. I seen car tags with fayette and they are not black car drivers either.

Paid a niece for working 2 jobs at the same time. What about the “land deal”? Please tell me this is a joke.

FIRE all people in powerful seats there and hire new. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the corruption in the Clayton County School System. It only would take people with common sense, integrity and hard work to fix the situation. Come on people who has the power to STOP the BS!

PLEASE, BE SMARTER THAN THAT!! DO NOT HIRE THAT WOMAN TO COME BACK TO CLAYTON COUNTY!!! SHE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE IS TRYING TO CORRECT!! As a teacher in the county, I’ve already decided that the grass is greener in another county HOWEVER, I still want what is best for the kids. Hiring Dr. Pulliam will be a major mistake and the morale of the teachers will plummet even further. Board Members, be careful with the decision making, be mindful of what you really need to do for the kids when making the decisions you make.

I lived in Clayton Co. 10 years ago and moved out to because the schools totally sucked then. I have about 8 other friends who did the same thing. Let’s all be real — this did not happen overnight. It has been steadily building. Poor planning on your part does not make it our emergency.

These board members were voted in by the very parents who are now complaining and asking for their resignations. If you do not do extensive research on the people you vote for, you get exactly what you deserve. Poor, uniformed representation with corruption and nepotism thrown in on the side.

I don’t care what you say about good kids or bad kids, poor kids or rich kids - parental involvement is what counts. Attending board meetings, PTA meetings, visiting the county BOE web site, checking the NCLB progress reports…and don’t give me the c* about “I work, I don’t have time.” MAKE THE TIME! (by the way - I do work and go to school too, but somehow manage to keep on top of what is going on in the school system)

WE parents are the checks and balances of our elected school officials and when you leave your kids in the hands of a GOVERNMENT school board and don’t keep an eye on what they are mandating or voting for, you have no one to blame but yourselves.

I do not want this board making any more decisions. Obviously they are candidates for the psych ward. I say leave Duncan in until we get a NEW board and then let them choose a permanent super. Just when you think things can’t get any worse, here we go again. How many teachers do you think will go if they bring Pulliam back. Quite a lot. She is not going to be the one to heal these wounds.

I don’t believe Pulliam was part of the problem. The problem was she was new, she was different, and she was from up north. Everybody knows southerners don’t like northerners. They simply didn’t like her because of that.

They said she hired her people. Well, doesn’t every new administration bring in their own people?

Come on, we all know the real reason is that since Toggle lost the sherriff’s race Clayton County has gone down. Whites moved out and in turn for losing the race, they sold their property to Atlanta’s project people.

The school system is bad because you have these stupid board members who didn’t have anything else to do with their time when their children were little, so they joined this committed and literally turned it upside down.

FIRE THE ENTIRE BOARD!!!

Here come the “he’s a racist” comments but you know it’s true. The white flight from Clayton County opened the door to the “let’s rush to elect anyone as long as they are black” syndrome seen previously in so many other areas that have gone through this transition (examples?your Sheriff Hill, DeKalb Co. with Vernon Jones and Cynthia McKinney, Fulton Co. with corrupt Sheriff Barrett and incompetent Sheriff Freeman, City of Atlanta with Mayor Campbell…)

When race becomes the most important factor instead of experience, integrity, and public interest, why should anyone wonder when they get incompetence, corruption, malfesance, power lust and self interest from their elected officials? You get the government you deserve- you elected those people. Until race is set aside as the most important factor in your elections, this will likely still occur. Judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin…hmmm, who said that before?

Clayton County needs to be disolved and split up, absorbed into and run by all the surrounding counties.

Dysfunctional schools, nut job sheriffs, and god knows what else is screwed up in Clayton.

Break it up into smaller pieces and let other counties run it.

I have friends on the Southside (don’t live there myself) who tell me that the Search firm the Clayton school board hired presented 3 candidates. One of the candidates was white - yet the school board only chose to interview the two black candidates and would not grant an interview to the white candidate. Has anyone else heard this? I would expect the AJC not to report on something like this sense they only pump out racial drivel about evil whites.

Years back we lived in Riverdale and my children went to Clayton County Schools; had a conference with one teacher and the English teacher had written a review of my child; it said “she do good work”, so there you go ! We sold out and moved to Fayette County. I agree with the folks in Fayette County to NOT accept any of those students; the parents and officials have done it to themselves with the lack of quality of education. The people of Fayette County have sacrified a lot to have their children in the finest school system in the area and I’m sure would certainly not want to dilute what they have with what Clayton would offer. It is a mess, I agree, but those that created it are going to have to find a way to fix it; not pawn their problem off on their neighbors.

Get rid of ALL of the existing board members and start fresh. Otherwise, no one will want to touch this ticking time bomb. This is what school systems get when they force parents out of the school system. Ever tried to get your child out of school for a valid reason - AS A PARENT ! The school systems do everything possible to keep the parents out to enforce control to be able to indoctrinate our children to their terms and desires - PARENTS, WE SHOULD FIGHT BACK and take back our rightful place WITHIN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM !

It is sad that adults write the kind of rhetoric I have read. Instead of coming up with solutions, we write comments of blame, of insults to the citizens of Clayton and Fayette, etc. Can anyone of you come up with the correct way to resolve this issue. I don’t believe anyone knew that the current board would have made such mistakes. Yes, each of us are to blame for not being involved in our community and ensuring that the elected officials (no matter what their ethnic makeup)are doing what we pay for them to do. Everyone has a vested interest to make sure their County is run efficiently and effectivey. Whether it was 20 years ago or now. So, instead of writing insults and placing blame about who is responsible, come out to the board meetings at the School Board level and at the County Commissioon level and get involved in making it better.

I hope I do this right because it is my first time. Can I be real?

The last time we have had a competent administrator running the Clayton School System was when a fellow by the name of Bill Horton was the Deputy under Superintendent Bill Chavis. Why not bring him back?

Why not talk to Walt Pierce who is not Superintendent in Seminole County. He graduated from Jonesboro High and was principal of Morrow High. Very competent man.

Why not beg Dr. Sam King to return to Clayton County? He is the superintendent in Rockdale County.

Why not look at Dr. Jim Williams and Lonnie Edwards from DeKalb? I think that both of these men are retired but would consider coming out of retirement to help Clayton County.

What about Jack Warren? Very nice but would probably not be interested in the job, but he could help.

By Jim

Dr. Sam King would be an ideal person for this job if he would take it. I don’t think the board would offer it to him because he is a no-nonsense type who would have a mind of his own.

I think Clayton’s schools are in a bad situation. It’s a situation that could be fixed, given the proper tools and team players, but those apparently do not exist at the moment.

I very much enjoyed my time spent as a student in Clayton schools. I liked my teachers, my parents were involved, and I always felt safe in my neighborhood and school. It is a true shame that a once nice place to be is the laughingstock of the Metro area, and it’s too bad that more people don’t remember it for what it was. Maybe someone with the right vision can get it back to being a decent place to call home. If not, I’ll move back there myself and try to do it.

I said many times the citizens of Clayton County must boycott the homes and places of employment of all board members who haven’t resigned, 24 hours a day until they do so. The idea of bringing back a person that was part of the problem is just another irrational decision by an inexperienced board. They all need to go. We as parents should not allow them to select anyone for the position. They all need to resign and the new board can choose a qualified applicant. I don’t care if they are black, white, purple, or green. I need to be able to sell my little starter house and get one that is what my family needs. I can’t do that becuase this mess has ruined our property values! I can’t even sell my house for what I brought it for 8 years ago!

Clayton County School Board has a comprehension problem, their advisors have already stated the following requirements for this county “We need to look at excellent and very capable white people in Georgia who understand the state laws and understand how to get things done in Georgia.” Clayton’s superintendent will be white and also needs to have a positive record as superintendent, Elgart and Bostic said. “The white person selected needs to have a successful track record as a superintendent, knowledge and experience in how white people do business in the state of Georgia. Oh Vickie, you and Vince are so sweet. The Bell Tolls for both of you. What the Clayton County School System needs is a big bag of Vidalia Onions for the all the teachers and employees. Then, we can have a huge Onion Celebration (fried, sauteed, stripped, smashed…in every conceivable recipe). If you have never been to one, you have not lived. (They make Jim Wood’s Tomato Sandwich Rallies pale in comparison.) All children, parents, and community people will be invited to the Performing Art Center with the art work about onions displayed inside as well as games (a dart board with John Trotter’s face with Larry O’Keefe and Mary Baker selling tickets for each throw, with money donated to Mary’s campaign) being located inside as well as outside. The many tables of delicious Vidalia recipes will be outside. All the children can throw baseballs at the Mark Elgart Clown in the cage. If a student dunks Mark Elgart, then Mark will break off a two-pence piece of a Hope Scholarship. (Hey, did the Georgia General Assembly just ignore Mark’s Big Bluff [Cry Baby, Cry Baby] and give the Clayton students the Hope anyway? Ole Bitter Mark Elgart lost another piece of leverage in his retaliatory arsenal.)

We will have a great time. My favorite recipe is the Great Vidalia Onion Sandwich. Slice a piece of the big onion down the middle so that it is at least one-half inch thick. Grill this slice of onion (like a hamburger) in olive oil (extra virgin) and brown vinegar (not to much). Put on the proper herbs and spices (oregano, curry, thyme, coarse black pepper, Texas Pete, etc.). Once grilled to your likeness, then get ready to flop the “burger” onto the whole wheat bun with mustard, Heinz Ketchup, and plenty of hamburger dill pickles. This concoction will make you beat your mother-in-law.

Good Onion Fellowship. That’s what this county needs. All the white deputies who are constantly beating up on Lil Vic (cf. the “boot”) can come out and eat onions with him. Bob Hartley and John Trotter will take suggestions for another one of his “Brother” signs. What about a new slogan for Rod Johnson? “If I Destroyed the School System, Why Can’t I Destroy the Clerk’s Office?” David Ashe: “I Haven’t Done Anything Positive For Four Years, So Why Not Let Me Have Four More Years? Hey, I Need A Job!” Good Slogan, David.

Take a look at Clayton County School board; take a look at Grady Hospital’s board; take a look at Atlanta Public School board. What do you see? Self-serving hypocrits who claim to want what’s best for their constituents, when what they really want is only what’s best for themselves—they want money! They don’t care about the students. In the case of the Grady board, they claim to care about the hospital being available for the poor; they don’t care about that. The hypocrits care only what’s best for themselves. If any of these board members cared about the welfare of the organization they represent, things wouldn’t have gotten into such a mess in the first place. Incompetence and selfishness reign! My son is a senior at a Clayton County School. He is an excellent student and so are many of the other students in Clayton County. I am tired of people grouping all Clayton County residents into one category. Are all the residents in other counties exactly the same? I am also sick and tired of white people writing that black people only vote based on race; which is exactly what whites have done since this country was formed; even to the point of refusing to allow black people to vote at all. Stop acting as though you can speak for every one in Clayton County. ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT THE SAME, JUST AS ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE NOT!!!!! There is still so much racism and hate in this country and it has not done anyone any good. There are major problems facing all of us. I read these blogs and the main persons who are writing and saying that they are not racist are making the most evil statements. There is no need or reason for anyone to be nasty, instead why not suggest a GODLY solution.

All schools and counties have problems and the problems are not going to be solved by incompetent people. This school board does not consist of members any worse than a lot of politicians. It amazes me how instead of attempting to be kind, people “Jump on the evil and negative”. My son’s school has a white principle; she is strong, caring, organized, and a true leader; she should be the superintendent. I don’t care what color the superintendent is. However, I will say that the board members should consist of blacks and whites. I don’t agree that Clayton County should be, “divided/split” and run by other counties; is there perfection in these counties? Further, how can a school board that is under “fire” to resign be allowed to determine who the next superintendent should be? Lastly, I will be happy when I can read a vent or a blog and not tell if the person is a hateful white or an angry black person.

Finally, a perfect solution, bring someone in that is at “Old Hand” at dealing with the problems at hand, after all she did last over three years, who better to pick! a couple of suggestions, she will need a little extra “Combat or Hazard Duty Pay”, if you will and security to keep the school board off her back! But really all should go well, if she hung in there all that time, she does care about the kids and she will have great input on helping pick the next Victim!

Over twenty posts in less than one hour. I am stuptified. Did I spell that correctly? Yawn, yawn, yawn. I am tired just watching this incredible feat. One Big Yawn for Omnipotent Ruler of the World!

What do I think of Clayton? I love Clayton. There’s other county where pro wrestling is elevated in everyday life to an art form so exquisite. Who’s talking about dividing up Clayco? Huh. We’re talking about seceding. The Free State of Clayco. The other counties turn to us to try to suck the marrow from our lives in Clayco. We have lives. Those living in Alpharetta and Vivings have to worry about pleasing their in-laws. We worry about who can be Jeff Gordon this weekend or if the judge is going to let T. I. leave his house on Easter. We are sons of Cabbagetown and Butter Milk Bottom. It’s a Clayco thing. You wouldn’t understand. We are foreigners to Mark Elgart.

I keep getting calls about this question, and I am trying to get set up for Pastoral Appreciation Day. My quick response to the Trotter/Pulliam question is that I don’t think so, but I will try to keep my ears close to the ground. The Prophet Earl and his cousin, the highly successful Evangelist Elvis will be speaking on my appreciation day. Sheila B will be presenting the donation from the Usher Baord. I want to introduce some of the new members of my pastoral staff, especially the newest member, Bishop Stanley Stuped. We have received RSVPs from Reverends Anderson, Powell, and Battle, but Rev. Smith is not coming. He appears to be still hatin’ on Rev. Bourbon. I gonna pray for him and that white pastor who left that big Jonebuh church to go back to Tennessee. Gotta go for now. Peace, JJb P.S. The AJC loves Clayco. We help sell those papers.

Excellent post Frans. Maybe Clayco should take a page from Grady - if you have a dysfunctional board there’s no reason to disband it or ask the members to resign. Just double your cost of governance and creat a seperate board. No need to kick out ineffective leaders in GA - just add a new layer

Before I go for lunch, allow me to make these profound statements: Mark Elgart is a crybaby, and now everyone knows it. Ericka Davis got politically jilted by Mark Elgart. Jackie Hubbard needs to do her job in Personnel. Rod and Ericka and Eddie announced these excruciatingly long resignations with great pomp and circumstances. David Ashe does not have a prayer of winning, if he draws ANY opponent (even Carol Kellum). Luvenia’s department is being investigated. Ericka won’t be around to help. Stevie is retiring. Dorsey Hopson is getting the heck away from the the State Bar of Georgia. Rod, the Destroyer of the Clayton County Schools, is floundering like a Miami Porpose (sp?). Celeste ain’t gonna be able to double-dip anymore. Sid Chapman is assigned back to the classromm, but is having problems actually attending and teaching. He wants a “leave of absence”? I thought he had that for years. Hmm. Well, let me see here. It’s just a matter of personal perception. Nike.

erika if you really are AA, which I doubt, then you are truly sad. You feel as if you are something special because you moved to Henry County! That is not only laughable but it makes you sound pathetic. Just wait until your neighbors call you and your kids nig-ger. I’ve read how Fayette and Peachtree City want except Clayton students. Well, I say that’s sad because, yes we voted these people on the board but we had no idea they were incompetent. At the end of the day it’s about the children. They should not be punished or spoken about by some misguided adult as if they are dirt under your feet. And I dare anyone of you from Fayette, Peachtree City etc. to tell me to my face that you don’t want my child attending school with yours! You all have no idea how stupid you sound. As for the comment about black peole only voteing for blacks, well that BS because our district picked the “white guy” who still to this day has not resigned either. Are you aware that a student from Mount Zion High School won the Bill Gates Millenuim Scholarship? Last I checked Mount Zion is in Clayton County, not Fayette. Also, everybody knows the best schools are in Cobb County. So stop with the stupid azz “we work hard to have the best schools” bullsh_it because they aren’t in Fayette or Peachtree City. My co-worker told me not to be fooled because the schools in Gwinett County are a mess too, they just do a good job of keeping it out of the papers. I guess it’s biased news reporting as usual. The negativity you carry in your hearts will manifest in your lives and will come back on you. Just as you are speaking ill of our kids, yours will get their comeuppance. Karma is a MF.

You want more profundity, heh? Well, let’s see. Yolanda will continue to be a nomadic teacher, moving every couple of years. In her first two stops (Hapeville ES and Drew ES), she had MACE to picket for her in both stops and Trotter to represent her in grievances at both stops. But, now, Dorsey is leaving, and Ericka will be trying to find her new niche in Fayette and trying hold on to the Terrell-inflated State Job. Beverly Hall? Well, she will be more loyal to Barbara Pulliam than Yolanda. (Perhaps job security is where some of this “Pulliam Push” is coming from, but it is easier and more fun blaming Trotter.) Eddie? Well, we suppose spending more quality time with Eileen. Spending more time with the Arnold-Fountain Club, but we understand that said members are mad at the way he allowed co-member Gloria Duncan get verbally beaten up by Ericka Davis and Yolanda Everett, especially at a Club meeting at the Godby Road Piccadilly in front of many witnesses.

Thank you, Brenda. Well said! I am also sick and tired of people pointing fingers here at the citizens and teachers. It’s happening in Clayton County today; it could potentially be any other Metro Atlanta county tomorrow. Yes, I did elect some of these people. However, I did not know any of them personally; but did take it upon myself to read their bio(s), which were very impressive. That is what my decision to choose them were based upon. Elections are always a gamble! You never know who will comply and follow through and who will not. All of us citizens in Clayton County are not all in the same category of not being involved in their children’s education. We have some great teachers. However, as it is everywhere else, we have some less than great ones. For those that want to condemn Clayton County for crime, it happens everywhere! That is the exact reason it is happening in places that it has never happened before. Believe it or not, nowhere is invincible! If you prefer to not be a part of the solution, we don’t need any more of you to be a part of the problem. We have enough of those already. Keep your shrewd comments to yourselves, especially if you don’t care!

Ericka Davis, Eddie White, and Rod Johnson are GONE! Those were the people who turn your school system over to SACS. They tried to use Elgart’s SACS to scare other board members into following their crooked ways. Elgart had his own agenda, justify SACS and its very own existence. Ericka Davis ran to SACS back in 2002 and was seen as a hero, but this time that tired POWER PLAY didn’t work. This time Elgart threw Ericka Davis and her 52,000 black kids under the Bus. She should have realized that the Republicans rule under the GOLD DOME today, and that any black elected officials seeking unwanted attention would be exploited by the media’s Megan’s, Hollis and Yeoman’s of the world. Ericka Davis is obviously too dumb to remember “Black Exploitation” from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Clayton County School Board will work more effectively now that she’s gone. Those that remain on the board know what need to be done and they’ll get it done to retain accreditation. However, it won’t be easy; there are a lot of POWER hungry blacks and whites out there levying to gain control; none with your children best interest at heart. There are more accrediting agencies out there, Elgart is not the only show in the southeast, and all Georgia’s schools are not under SACS. We will not lose accreditation, if you are a Clayton County School Board watcher you’d know who the trouble makers are unless you have some kind of personal gain by some of those people were on the board. Let those remaining board member start fixing the problems, then elect good one to help in July. Remember, Clayton County School Board didn’t take itself to SACS; Ericka Davis and Rod Johnson did, the normal SACS inspection is a paperwork drill that everyone passes. WE WILL WIN!!

Geez, can’t they read, I recommend reading/comprehension classes!

Oh my goodness. All this trash you people are talking. Most of you fail to think or realize that this snafu is impacting the children. Many of these children has potential to bring themselves up out of the poverty they live in because they are smart and doing what they are suppose to be doing. Losing accreditation will make it difficult for them to succeed. The adults of the board are only interested in their own agenda’s and not concerned about the good of the children and that is why they all have to go. Parents must become involved in the process because if they don’t the children are the one’s who will suffer. I grew up in Clayton County, graduated from high school and college there. My grandchildren go to school there and they as all children are entitled to quality education and as parents it is your responsibility to make sure this happens. Get involved and make this happen for the children as they are our future of this country.

More parents need to get a better understanding of how school board politics work and get involved. It is very easy to sit and complain from the sidelines, but everyone has to remember that these people were voted into their positions. Truly concerned parents that feel they can do a better job need to run for school board and provide the integrity that has been missing. Also some laws need to be passed that can facilitate the removal of school board members that are doing an inadequate job. If the president can get impeached, I don’t understand why its so difficult to remove a school board member.

And parents…BE PARENTS. The pseudo-gang problem rampant thru Clayton County schools is ultimately the fault of parents not actively monitoring their kids behavior. So I’m sorry, if your 14/15 year old gets killed at 11:00 pm at night, then guess what, ITS YOUR FAULT. He should’ve been home. It starts in the home so let’s take some personal responsibility and effect change ourselves.

All anyone has to do to understand Clayton’s problem is to read the comments from Optimistic at 2:32 and Reader at 2:52.

Look folks…there is no hidden agenda, there is no conspiracy and there is no bias in the SACS report. It simply is what it is: a scathing review of the school system and the Board’s inability to get work done….primarily because of influence from an “outside group.”

Optimistic…There are only a very few extremely small rural school districts (the 6 smallest, I believe) that are not accredited by SACS. SACS cannot acredit them because they are too small to have some programs SACS requires. They are accredited by another group. That wouldn’t work for Clayton.

I’m hoping that the snub against Clayton students isn’t due to what they think is inferior students. Teachers talk and believe me the students from other districts are no smarter than the students from Clayton. A teacher recently told me the kids in Fayette presented severe discipline problems. I hope that all concerned can remember that the children are innocent in this matter. Let’s be nice to them. Also, on behalf of the teachers in Clayton County, they are the best. Well, in times of crisis, that is exactly what politicians do - Take a vacation. I don’t live in Clayton Co, but have been following it very closely. Anytime a situation occurs that jeopardizes the education and future of young kids, I take notice - NO MATTER WHERE. Plus, we all need to take notice, because it can happen anywhere.

Vacation should be the last thing on this Board’s mind. Every day you do nothing brings you closer to the deadline that seals the fate. It is a prime example of why they need to go.

One of the changes I believe that needs to be made is a change in the law regarding the election and removal of school board members. These people are elected to run a system that directly impacts our children. If they are inept, irresponsible, non-caring, people, as the Clayton County board has proven itself to be, there needs to be something in the law that allows the citizens that elect them to be able to remove them. It would be nice if this could be done in all politics, but where school boards are concerned, parents and citizens should have the right to be able to vote them out. We are talking about our children’s future. As a matter of fact, I don’t think that school board officials should even be an elected position. It should be appointed based on educational background and experience. This way, if you screw up, we don’t have to wait until the term is up to get them out, by which time more damage may be done.

Where our kids futures are at stake, we need to be more proactive, but moreso, have more power to ensure that the powers that be are doing the right thing to secure their future.

The school board cannot be serious! I am a single man with no children and I don’t live in Clayton County, therefore I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about education issues especially when they are outside of my jurisdiction. This issue has gotten my attention though. Who are the ones suffering here? The children! The kids are going to bear the burden of this at no fault of their own. This makes me sick. The board should be ashamed of themselves.
I can only hope that the board’s vacation turns into one that lasts WAY more than one week. In the meantime, I will continue to pray for the kids and the others affected by this complete failure of the Clayton School Board.

While it is hard to believe that the board is this apathetic and sluggish, the continued apathy of the CC parents is beyond me. So few are involved in trying to get the board “jump started”, you can see that the board feels no strong mandate to fix things, beginning with themselves. If each parent called one board member….But it is further demonstration of the attitude of so many in the county. Poor kids! And I feel badly for the few hundred parents that DO care.

Plus if you have never attended the board meetings watch them on tv. these members cannot even speak proper English. The few times they speak proper they are reading prepared statements written by TROTTER. 2. Clayton County students are out of control. The college bound responsible students are few and far between. I have taught in Clayton County for 15 years. behavior has went down the tubes. It gets worse each year as the resonsible families move out. No, Mr. TROTTER it is not just lack of adminstrator support for teachers. It is parents who are thugs and they are raising thugs that respect nothing or no one. Their only goal in life is to grow up to be a thug. I teach elemenary school. I would bet that half the students in elementary schools today will have a legal record before they leave middle school. Many of the middle of the road students are bowing down to peer pressure. Students at my school do not even respect the police. The Junior Deputy officer was treated without any respect. As a matter of fact they were so bad our school might be dropped from the program. This was six foot pluS officeR in full uniform and a stern voice. Clayton County needs alternative settings for at least 4 or 5 students from each class at my school. Nearby counties do not want to pay for this mess. I live in Fayette and I welcome the honor students. I am even willing have several honor high schoolers live at my house my kids are grown. I however do not want my taxes to go up paying for these little thugs that are in the majority in Clayton County.
3. Do not listen to most of the people on this blog the majority posted belong TROTTER or his puppets. Any thing written discussing how Elgart, Davis, Bell, the land deal, or the lawyer hired is bad, GAE, etc. Of course the fact that Haynes was wrongly removed from the board and never forget the one with racial overtones is pure TROTTER. Also Pulliam is now in TROTTER’S pockets. TROTTER and Pulliam is a deadly combination. 4. As I said I have worked in Clayton County for 15 years and have on plans to leave. I am a very good teacher. Other systems have connected me asking that I come to their systems. But I am staying for the few kids that I have in my class that are not thugs! They desserve a great education. Yes, when I write up a student action is taken but adminstrators can only do so much and will never be able to do more until we get TROTTER out of Clayton County Schools. If there were no problems his little “union” would go under. He could not charge this poor excuses of teachers legal fees (on top of monthly due) to represent them when they are clearly wrong. 5. Before the problem with SACS the first time. TROTTER offered Clayton County Board of Education a deal. He would stop all the the interference if he was given a high paying job in the central office so he would work unitl he is vested in the Teacher Retirement System. The board would know make a deal with him. He was fired from Clayton County before he was vested in the system. I quess no other boards would hire him. TROTTER IS THE ENTIRE PROBLEM. GET HIM OUT OF THE PICURE AND ELECT A NEW BOARD THAT ONLY HAS ONE AGENDA.. THE KIDS. SACS PROBLEMS WILL GO AWAY AND WE CAN GET THE HELP WE NEED FOR OUR STUDENTS.

What do we expect from people who have shown no professionalism or concern for the students of Clayton County? Since the student are on Spring Break, they decided to take a Spring Break too. This is just another indicator that the wrong people hold these postions. My daughter was a senior at Morrow High school the last time they had problem with SACS.

Blame the voters that put these “nimcaputs” in office. Advice to sll voters: Personality does not give a person “brain power” or the ability to use same. Your vote has screwed up your school system. Shame on you.

I agree with nearly EVERYONE who has posted a comment. The kids in Clayco are good kids, as well as the teachers. I believe that the state should step in immediately and put an end to this madness. We, as residents, should not run to other counties. It’s not fair to other counties, nor it fair to our children as memebers of this school system. The neighoring counties can are not even equipped to handle an influx of students from our counties. This is one time when the government should step up and do it quickly. September 1 will be here soon. It’s my 50th b-day and it’s 4 months away!

Reality check “What Citizens Need To Know”. The majority voting bloc during this entire debacle, has been GAE members. Of the administrators in Clayton that run this “fatally flawed” system, not one of them is MACE members. In fact the administrators include one (implicated in the attendace debacle) on the board of directors of GAE and one who is the current president of GAE. (Sorry I had to interject some facts into the discussion, “Citizen”)

Yes, GAE members got the land deal passed. Brought Pulliam. A GAE member KNOWINGLY hired an accused child molester. GAE members threw the ENTIRE system under the bus by getting SACS involved.

Try to blame Dr. Trotter for (9/11, global warming, bird flu, steriods in baseball…he gets blame for so much it’s hard to keep track) but you can’t get away from the fact that the majority voting bloc has been, and currently is, comprised of GAE members.

If citizens were aware of that, it would go a long way towards them making informed decisions and not relying on media sources to spoon fed them biased on their biases.

This is why the school system in Clayton County is so bad !!! What do you expect they have no reguards for what there actions cause the kids there to deal with later.

From what I can see, the people in Clayton County are just sitting back and letting there schools go to hell in a hand basket and want the surrounding counties to take on the problem of educating those kids. This is a joke, throw the jerks out of office, send them to jail and put soomeone in those positions that belongs there, and not someone because they are black, like has happened now.

Get the job done people its your problem not the states!!!

They need to make their break permanent. They just want to be sure they get that paid vacation in before they leave office. If they are getting sick leave they will probably use that up too. They haven’t done anything until now but act like a bunch of racist idiots and turn Clayton from one of Georgia’s best systems into an embarrassment to the whole state. This has been going on for years and now a lot of kids are in jeopardy of not being able to get financial aid for school and teachers their pensions. The Catholics are just waiting to take over and take all the smart children and leave the system with the handicapped and behavior problems

Drop the Board and the politics and pick a dozen quality teachers to run the school system for the next 5 years. Let them pick a superintendent from among the the best principals and give those children an education.

Everyone seems to be hollering about race. Did I just hear Dr. King flip over again? That crypt is going to get a crack over Clayton County. Fire the board. Re-open the search for a Superintendent. Hire someone unconnected to block out references to colleges and organizations that would indicate race. Conduct blind interviews solely by e-mail so no one knows the sex or race of the new superintendent until the day he or she arrives. And if that person is White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, or an Australian aborigine, so be it. Male, Female, Gay, Lesbian or Transgendered, so be it. The person is being picked based on their qualifications. OR The alternative is for the teachers’ organizations to each put up a candidate for Superintendent and hold an election just like an election for governor and not worry about the paperwork. The parents, employees and students of voting age (mostly seniors and special ed. students) would vote for their candidates who would go to the schools, churches and community meetings and campaign the month before the election.

Then select a board from among the TEACHERS. Select one member from each level (elem, middle, high, and Special Ed.) and one from each department (English, Math Special education, etc.)nominated by the students and parents. You end up with about 20 very qualified people who want the schools to succeed. If you want to reverse this, let the Board pick a Superintendent from among the best administrators or even another teacher.

Three reasonable solutions that remove the racism and a lot of the politics. Then give the Superintendent a 5 year no-cut contract with option or first renewal so that he or she can learn his or her job.

But first you have to fire the Board. They are an embarrassment to the most advanced state in the South.

And as for Fayette, well yall have always been a bunch of stuck up airline employees, Claytonians with a little more money. I am sure it is your kids coming up to Clayton to get their dope. Where there is a demand there is always a supply. I remember when Fayette was not even considered metro Atlanta. For a long time it was 4 counties—-Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, and Cobb. Clayton was for the rednecks. Cobb was for the racists and Atlanta and DeKalb were for the real people.

Sad But True,

Let’s talk about who isn’t a MACE member: the majority voting bloc of the school board. They are GAE members.

Also sad but true, care to tell us which ones, among the administrators who run Clayton County schools, are MACE members?

Care to tell us the names of those, among the board members who threw the ENTIRE system under the bus by going to SACS first, are MACE members?

Probably not, because then you’d have to admit none of them are, and then your whole argument that Dr. Trotter is responsible for the school system’s troubles (or the steriod scandal, the ozone layer, China’s human rights record; y’all blame him for so much it’s hard to keep track) falls flat on its face.

Sorry to interject facts into the discussion, but someone had to do it.

Lulabelle - NO!!!! everyone doesnt deserve a vacation when they don’t do the job right in the 1st place. The BOE should have been burning the midnight oil trying to find ways to fix Clayton County’s problems instead they go on vacation.

Showing that they could give a rat’s _ about the 55K plus kids that are going to be going to school next year in a county with no accrediation (sp?) next year.

Unfortunately Ericka Davis and Rod Johnson opened up Pandora’s box when they brought in Elgart to do their dirty work for them.

Erika thought she could control Elgart like she does White and Johnson, but when the national office tore Elgart a new one for using SACS to carry out a political vendetta, Elgart dropped Ericka like a two bit floozy. (I think Wikipedia just added Ericka’s picture to their article on the term “Hoisted on one’s own petard.” LOL)

Unfortunately, whether or not someone is there to answer the phone for “the people” during Spring Break is of no consequence, as this was never about “the people” (or their children) in the first place.

If it were, Elgart and Ericka would have never tried to take the power out of the voters’ hands by holding their HOPE scholarships hostage.

My Daddy was a Clayton County school board member for 30 years. I am sure he is rolling over in his grave. Ed Edmunds and people like my father are being disrespected by this current rabble of board members. Shame on all of you! You obviously can not do the job you were elected for. Elect people who care about the children instead of themselves.

I have never in my life seen one group of people that are totally clueless. How did these get into office in the first place? Especially since they can get into office without even living in the county. Does anybody do background checks? This board has no consideration nor do they care about Clayton County or the students they are hurting. It appears each of them have put the extra income they make as a priority rather than the people they were to represent. And I guess they get off on thinking they’re important. Its all about them. In my opinion they should all be removed immediately by the governor or someone with some sense because these clowns have none. As a realtor banks are even redlining Clayton County due to their stupidity and numerous families are moving away because of their non-sense. Stop waiting for them to remove themseleves because it doesn’t appear they have sense enough to do it themselves. Kick them to the curve NOW!

It sad but it looks almost impossible that Clayton County will regain its accreditation. If you or someone you know is in need to finish their High School career or even continue their education with college, I am telling you from personal experience that Ashworth High School (part of Ashworth University) is the way to go.

Ashworth is regionally and nationally accredited by SACS, CITA and DETC.

Just wanted to let you know that, besides our fully accredited High School program, we also have Career Training, Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs.

This education opportunity is more than affordable to keep your children on the best education path and enhance their career opportunities.
